::Ian couldn't help but smile at the beautiful day that greeted him when he stepped outside. He stretched his mucles and warmed up for whatever the day might bring him. Things haven't been very productive for him at the mansion, so he decided to go for a run. After a few laps around the city, he made his way to the sports area of the mansion. He smiled and ruffled through the closet until he found what he was looking for.
Taking out a ball and glove, he couldn't help but think back to when his parents played catch with him. He choked down a lump that was forming in his throat befor he went back to the feild. He then gave the ball his best through, sped across the feild, and caught it. Throwing again, he began to play catch, and with his speed it was easy for him to play it with only one guy::

It was insane for anyone to stay inside on a day such as this, and seeing as Rose wasn't... totally insane, she soon found herself heading outside. She took the back halls, to avoid to much contact with the other students, escaping out one of the many side doors. She found herself facing the old worn path that led to that abandoned boathouse everyone avoided. Why they avoided it, she wasn't sure. Something about one of the more... interesting students 'haunting' the place. If she hadn't already had plans on where to go, she probably would have gone to explore the place, but her legs quickly carried her off, her small book bag swinging with each step.
Finding a spot she was happy with, she looked for the 'best' tree to climb, finally deciding on one with strong lower branches so she wouldn't have to use her power to climb it. It was a strange thing, being able to use her power of barriers to create steps if she wanted. Sure it seemed like a waste of energy at times, but it had proven useful more times then she could count. Quickly and silently she started to climb, careful not to snag her shirt on any of the branches, or to drop her bag. She settled down on one of the stronger branches, her back resting against the trunk of the tree with her legs straddling the branch.
Taking a deep breath, she pulled a book out of her bag, the cover reading 'Gone'. She was just about to start reading the new book when she spotted a ball flying across the field. Watching the ball, she blinked when she spotted Ian suddenly appear in it's path, catch it, then through it back the other way. Ian vanished, only to reappear in the balls path once more. She just about laughed as she watched. Ian was playing catch. By himself. "Ian! Are you bored or something? Catch is supposed to be with two or more people!" So he wouldn't wonder where she was, she waved from her spot on the tree, very few leafs to obscure the view.

::he was in the process of catching his next ball when he heard a voice from not to far off calling to him. Completely distracted, he looked to where the voice was::
Huh? Oh! Hi rose!
::he smiled wide at her, but his smile quickly faded when the ball struck him in the head with a "whack!". Giving a small shout and grumbling a few choice words under his breath while rubbing his head, he looked angrily at the ball::

Rose smiled brightly when he noticed her, though just about lost her balance on the branch from laughing when he got hit by the ball. She quickly put up a shimmering wall to her right, where she had been starting to slide, to hold herself in place. Reestablishing her balance, she couldn't help but grin like a fool, the wall disintegration. Shaking her head, she yelled again. "I don't think getting hit by the ball is part of the game!" She paused momentarily, suddenly remembering what someone was supposed to say in a situation like this. "Are you okay?" She was sure he was, but it'd be bad if she had laughed at him and he'd gotten hurt. Very bad.... Any onlookers would think she had purposely made the ball hit him, just for amusement.

Yeah...I'll remember that next time.
::he grumbled softly as he picked up the ball and walked to her. Still a little dazed from being hit in the head, he shook his head softly then looked up at her. Though he didn't like the fact of her laughing, he couldn't help but forget the pain when he saw her smile::
I'm fine thanks. How've you been?

Rose quickly stuffed her book back into her bag, swinging her leg over so she could face Ian, staring down at him with a soft smile. She swung her legs back and forth, resting her head in her hands, elbows propped on her knees. "The usual, I suppose...." She paused for a moment. "What about you though? It's been a while since I've seen you." Of course, that was mostly her fault. Her always hiding out in her room or the Danger room, rarely leaving for any reason.

::he continued to smile while he looked up at her. When she asked him how he was and that he hadn't seen him, he couldn't help but laugh a bit::
Well you have been hiding out from me. I've just been doing my usual thing around here, but nothing too major.
::he took a few steps back from the tree, got ready to run, then within seconds he was up the tree and sitting on the branch next to hers. Anyone who knew him well enough now, knew that by looking in his eyes he was thinking about something hard::
Rose...I've been thinking. I've been wondering around on my own, not knowing where I was going. But ever since I met you, and came to this place...
::he looked to her, his eyes looking her over once more, then to the school. An arm absently went around the tree::
I've decided on something. I'm going to join the school. This place has become home to me and...and I've enjoyed being with you
::he smiled and looked to her, but a slight redness came to his cheeks as he said this::

Rose smiled innocently, trying to hide her embarrassment. "I don't purposely 'hide'... It's become a bit of a bad habit of mine. I'm working on it though." She quickly braced herself right before Ian leaped into the tree, after all, it'd be rather embarrassing if she fell off. When he settled again she started to swing her legs back and forth again, an eyebrow raised when she spotted that look of his. She definitely knew that look after knowing him for so long. When he finally said it though, she grinned. "I don't want to sound selfish, but it's about time." She paused, just about laughing at herself. "I think you've had everyone wondering when you would 'officially' join the school. You've been here for so long." Of course, right then was when she noticed the soft blush on his cheeks, just about blinking in surprise. Why was he blushing....?

He couldn't help but laugh when she mentioned his time here. It's true that he had been here for a long time, even longer than he, himself wanted to. He shrugged when she told him it was about time that he joined.
"Well, I didn't think I would be here this long." he said, then softly mumbled "I didn't think I'd find someone worth staying for either."
He thought back to the first day he met Rose's brother, and what had happened when he saw her after so long. He couldn't control the fact that he had kissed her, no more than he could the urge to do it again. When he saw that she was looking at him, he felt more than a little embarrassed.
"I mean...uh...I have to stay here, you know? How am I going to stay your protector when I'm not part of this place right?"

Rose smiled softly, though something about it almost seemed sad, remembering the days when they were still strangers. "Back then, I didn't think so either... You didn't seem to fond of the place when you were forced to come here." She paused for a moment. "Things really have changed since then..." She just about tilted her head when she heard him say something else, though wasn't able to make it out. A part of her was curious as to what it was, though the other half just shrugged it off, deciding that if it wasn't loud enough to hear it must not be important. Though it probably wouldn't be a smart idea to say that aloud, just in case it was taken the wrong way..... Once she thought about it, a lot of the things Rose thought, said, or did could be taken the wrong way. Rose grinned, a soft chuckle almost escaping from what he said. "Oh, of course. We know what happens when you're not around. I'm just a trouble magnet." She rolled her eyes, still grinning. It was rather true... She did some stupid things when he wasn't around. Why, she had no idea. ((Cousin! You're always messing that up.))

((oh )) "I wasn't fond of it actually. Everytime I was here something came up that had to do with some sort of time mutant...or whatever they're called. Then i found out you were missing and almost invaded the Nightmares island just to save you." He looked at her when he said this. He was sure she didn't know how much he was afraid for her, but to be willing to face the Nightmares for her must've showed something. It was then he remembered seeing her in the bed, and he looked down towards the ground, but not looking at it. "Then seeing you...in that bed at Aaron's house. I never wanted to see you like that again." He looked up to her, a small tear beginning to trail down his cheek, "I thought I would lose you forever, Rose."

((Yup.))
A smile touched Rose's lips again, holding back a laugh. "You mean those Something Followers. I can't remember the first part... Some Greek God or Titan or something...." She paused for a moment. "Looks like they lost interest in you." She grinned, though it vanished when he mentioned her going missing... She closed her eyes, not wanting to see the look on his face as he stared at the ground.
Why did he have to bring that up...? Did he know how horrible she felt about that? That every time she was alone, and close her eyes she would relive that day? From when she was just trying to protect innocent citizens on the street to the expression on Ian's face when he saw her...
Slowly she reopened her eyes, though wouldn't meet his gaze, not wanting to see that expression... That same expression of when he'd seen her. "I'm sorry.... I'm really.... really sorry...." She hesitated for a moment. "I never meant for any of that to happen... I saw him trying to hurt those people... And I couldn't just stand there and do nothing...." Of course, if Cain hadn't gotten her angry, he never would have noticed the family resemblance...

"Well I'm glad they did. It's been crazy ever since I met them."
He chuckled at the though to the "time mutants" losing interest in him. But he couldn't help but think of the memory that was shown to him. Mutants locked up by the MRF and taken in trucks to different facilities, the X-Men being , and him as well. It almost made him shudder just to think about it. When Rose looked down and apologized, he smiled sadly and reached out to take her hand in his.
"It's ok, Rose. I'm here now, and I'm not going to let anything happen to you again. I promise."

Rose didn't look up when he took her hand, though didn't resist his doing it. She never wanted to put him through something like that ever again... How could she? But she was Nightshade... A runaway Nightshade. Where ever she went, bad things were sure to happen, to her and those close to her. She'd never realized until this moment how much danger she'd put Ian in, just by being close to him. If her family ever learned of the relationship, they'd turn their efforts on him as well, just to get to her. And, no offense to him, if that did happen he'd have no chance against them... So what was she to do? He was the closest person to her, so should she stay, and do what she could if they did target him? Or should she leave, and get him out of harm's path... "It's... not just me that's going to need protection now. If they know about you... You're in just as much, or even more, danger then me... And it's all my fault. "
All her fault... She hated those words. But it was. She pulled him into this, and now he couldn't get out. Not unless something happened, and her family lost interest in him... But for that to happen she'd have to hurt him... So what was she supposed to do?!

Ian made a move to jump down the tree after releasing her hand, but instead he quickly moved from one brang to the one directly behind her. After which he reached over and put his arms around her, holding her close to him in order to give her some sort of protection. He rested his head against hers.
"Rose...I wanted this for myself. It had nothing to do with you. If I have to face your family just to be with you, then I'll face a whole generation."
He was true to his word. He knew that it was dangerous, even deadly for Rose and him to be together. But he was growing more and more attracted to her as the days went on, and he didn't want to leave her. He refused to let her face these problems on her own, and he told her this.
