Rose just blinked, now wondering why he'd punched the glove in his hand, before shrugging it off. It didn't matter. She'd probably never understand most sports, so why should she bother trying to learn the little things that had no importance? "Yeah... Saying it's just like baseball doesn't exactly help when you've never seen a baseball game."
She sighed, taking a deep breath after. Well, all or nothing. She'd have to try either way, or he'd probably pester her until she did. Wherever the ball went was his problem. Remembering how he'd been throwing earlier, she did her best to copy the movement. The only problem was, when she was throwing it, she let go to early, and wasn't exactly aiming for the glove in Ian's hand. The ball went way off course, a good ten feet from where Ian crouched, and wouldn't even make it as far. Rose grumbled, suddenly annoyed. Throwing was much harder then she'd expected.

"You serious? You've never watched a ball game?"
Ian looked at her stunned. He was a born Cubs fan and loved the idea of baseball, but he just shrugged it off as isolation with the nightmares. When she threw the ball, he could tell it wasn't going far, and he just went into the path of it and caught it. He then walked over to her and placed the ball in her hand. He then moved behind her and took her wrists gently.
"Here, let me help with the throwing part."
He gently moved her hands, fingers, and arm which held the ball and put it in the position to throw.
"Now use all the strength you can muster and throw. But make sure to let the ball go only when your arm is just about straightened ok?"

Rose just shrugged. "No. My family thought it was pointless." Actually, they thought most everything was pointless. Other then the necessities, all they did was train and home school. No tv, no music, no friends. Nothing. Eat, sleep, school, train. When he placed the ball in her hand and gently took her wrists, she just about blushed. Why was she suddenly so embarrassed? So preoccupied with trying to stop herself from blushing, she just about missed what he was saying.
Finally she forced herself to nod, her cheeks growing a hotter pink by the moment. "O-Okay..."

He continued his gentle touch as he showed her how to move her arm and when to let the ball go. When he was sure she had it, he gave her a small kiss on the cheek and took a few steps away from her. He turned and took his catchers stance again and smiled at her, giving her a friendly wink."
"Ok, Rose, give it your best."

That small kiss didn't help. At all. All it did was turn her cheeks such a bright red some people might think she had a fever. She quickly shook her head, trying to get the blush to go away before he saw it. Taking a deep breath, she calmed her nerves enough that the blush wasn't as prominent as it had been a moment before, finally looking towards Ian once more, him already in that crouch again. Suddenly, a fiery determination boiled up from inside her. She could do this! She'd show him she could do it. Doing exactly what Ian had showed her to do, she threw the ball again. Of course she was closer this time, but far from perfect. She released a little to early again, but it wasn't as bad as it had been the first time.

He couldn't help but smile at her reaction, seeing her shake his head. He watched as the ball came closer this time, and a little higher to. He tossed her the ball back underhanded, hoping she had watched him catch the ball enough times before interrupting him to know how to catch it as well as throw it.
"You're doing great Rose, keep it up."

Ian was probably enjoying making her blush, since he seemed to keen to make her blush so often. She'd blushed more in one day then she had the past 15 years of her life! That was sort of pathetic... But almost annoying in her mind. Rose snapped out of it when he threw the ball back to her. Realizing a second to late, she tried to catch it...
And just about got whacked in the nose when it bounced out of the glove. If she hadn't put up an invisible force field at the last second, she would have gotten hit. She stared down at the glove, the ball resting in it, trying to figure out why the ball had bounced. That is, until she moved her fingers a little in the glove and figured out that she was supposed to close her gloved fingers when it landed in the mitt. "Oh..." She sighed, shaking her head again. "Well I feel like an idiot..."

He was a little worried when the ball landed in her glove and bounce up towards her face. He breathed a small sigh of relief when he saw the field cause the ball to bounce off and land in her glove. He heard her comment and gave a small laugh. All he could think about was how he was when he first played catch with his father. His dad threw a high ball and Ian thought he could catch it. And he did...right in the mouth.
"Don't worry, you at least were able to stop the ball on your first try.

Rose just kept glaring at the ball, as if blaming it for almost hitting her, when it really had been her fault. She wouldn't let that happen again. When he spoke, she glanced up, her glare softening. "Uh... I think that was just luck though." It most definitely had been luck. Picking up the ball in her free hand, she threw it once more, the throw much like her previous one had been, but just a little closer to where he crouched, well close enough he wouldn't have to dive five or more feet to catch it.

And he didn't. He smiled a bit when she said it was luck, and he watched as the ball flew towards him and landed a few inches from him. He smiled and looked to her, then stepped up towards the ball. He picked it up and tossed it to her again. He hoped she was enjoying this, but he could definitely tell she was becoming determined at catching and throwing the ball. He couldn't help but smile as he thought of how he was when he started.

Rose flat out missed the ball when it was thrown back, having to scramble to get it. She still couldn't figure out why people did this to pass their time. It seemed so... so boring to her. She was only determined because it bugged her that she was bad at it. Perhaps if she did get better she might enjoy it, but right now it was just boring. But Ian seemed to like it.... So she'd play along. Finally catching the ball in it's attempt to escape, she glared at it again, before throwing. This time though, she released it late. If Ian didn't catch it, he'd probably get a pretty good whack on the end of his toes.

He watched as she scrambled for the ball, and he couldn't help but notice that she didn't seem to like it that much. But if she didn't seem to like it, then why did she want to play so much. When she threw the ball again, he once again was at the catching spot in seconds, catching it in his glove. He smiled and tossed her the ball back again, trying to make sure that she was able to catch it this time.
