Varden was a very very small town, but it had been where she grew up. She loved this tiny place. Her neighbors had all greeted her with open arms. At first she said she was only going to be staying for the day because she didn’t want to stay home. Will, one of her friends, insisted that she stay with him if she had nothing better to do. As always, she didn’t, and she couldn’t stand up the chance to not stay at home.
The few days back at home ended up lasting almost three weeks longer than expected. It wasn’t as if she was desperately needed back with the Exiles. It was good to be home and back at what she loved most, making music. The band she and Will had formed in High School ended up rejoining to write new music. Will’s mother was surprisingly happy with the deafening noise drowning out her house. In fact, she had even spread the word to the rest of the town. It wasn’t long before they were demanded to play a revival show. They denied doing it at first, but when word had spread they were going to do it, they had no choice.
Ralph Greene was possibly the most fun old man a person could find. However, that didn’t make him turning his massive barn into their stage any less of a surprise. The night was filled with surprises. Rather than only the town showing up the barn was packed wall to wall. It seemed that word had leaked about a free concert.
They made their entrance and rather than introducing themselves, they simply jumped into their opening song. It was their newest one called Misssing.
I saw the queen Swam out below her star on sea beneath Though I lifted up my hands to her She never lifted me
Oh, something's missing in me I felt it deep within me as lovers left me to bleed alone
Found something sweet on the island with daughters of Eve But through thick and thin they've gone away And only left their grief
Oh, something's missing in me I felt it deep within me as lovers left me to bleed alone Something's missing in me I felt it deep within me as lovers left me to bleed alone
Something's missing in me Something's missing in me
Down here love wasn't meant to be It wasn't meant to be for me Down here love wasn't meant to be It wasn't meant to be for me
Oh, something's missing in me I felt it deep within me as lovers left me to bleed alone
Something's missing in me I felt it deep within me as lovers left me to bleed alone
Something's missing in me Something's missing in me Something's missing in me Something's missing in me[/size]
As she sang and interacted with her friends on the stage. The crowd was so thick she could have easily jumpt into their arms and allowed their current to take her, but she didn't.

Remy had always wanted to visit Europe, and New York was definetly losing it's flavor for him, especially after the incident with Cain's attack. He decided a trip out of the US was perfect, and he always wanted to visit around France. Unfortunately the ride only took him to a small town, but it seemed that something was making everybody run around like rabbits.
When he asked around he heard that a local band was getting back together for a revival concert. He didn't really want to stand around and it seemed that he didn't really plan on going anywhere in particular. So he got the location of the band and managed to get into the middle of the very large crowd that had formed around him. When he saw one of the band members on stage, he couldn't help but smile. He hadn't seen Sookie since they parted ways in New York, and now he's managed to find her here.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out one of his usual playing cards. He waited until the crowd started cheering after their song, his eyes glowing red under his fedora. The card lit up and he flicked it into the air, causing it to sail over the crowd and land at Sookie's feet before the glow faded. The card was the queen of hearts.

Dispite the noise, she head something light drop at her feet. Her sense of smell would be useless here with so many people, but she could still hear, especially at such close range. As the crowd screamed for another song, her eyes found the card. A confused expression came across her face and she knelt down to pick it up, examining it as if it were some alien object rather than just a playing card. She sniffed it quickly. Swamp. Remy was here. But where? And why?
She slipped the card into her jacket pocket before slipping the article of clothing off and throwing it to Will's mom, who put it with the rest of their things that weren't being used. Under the jacket she wore a plain halter top, but it exposed much more of her than most had seen. Now the tattoos on her arms were uncovered and were she to turn the top half of the tattoo on her back could be seen.
When Will began to play the song Beautiful Bride she snapped out of her daze and instantly began performing, almost leaning into the crowd, her hold on a beam being the only thing keeping her up. In the back of her mind she reminded herself to keep an eye open for Remy. On the bridge of the slow, which was considerably much slower, she took a moment to scan the audience, but she still couldn't find him.

He knew he had gotten her attention the moment she picked up the card. He stared at her slim figure as she took off her jacket and revealed her top. She began singing again, this time leaning into the crowd, but he could tell she was doing more then leaning, she was looking for him. He had been a thief long enough to know when somebody's scanning the crowd.
He didn't want to make his notice seem to simple, so he just took off his fedora high enough for her to spot before running his hand through his hair and putting it back on. He hoped he had gotten her attention then, wondering what she would do once she saw him. He thought back to their moments in the sewers and couldn't help but smile.
As the song continued, he continued to stand still even as the entire crowd of people cheered and jumped around him. Each moment he saw an opening that lead closer to the stage, he took it, but with the amount of people packed into the barn it was hard. Either way though, he knew he would stick around even after the show was over and the crowd had melted out.

Sookie didn't act as if she noticed him, but continued to sing. Once they were done with Beautiful Bride the crowd quieted down a bit and she began to speak to them.
"Alright alright, quiet down lovelies."
The crowd didn't quiet and she snarled into the mic.
"Shut up!"
They did as they were instructed and everyone else in the band but her snickered to themselves lightly.
"Thank you!" Her voice was sweet, as if she hadn't just yelled at a room full of people. "Alright, some of you don't know us and to those of you thanks for coming out to see us. This is really..." she paused to think for the word, but Will siezed the mic from her and said 'unexpected'. She agreed and then asked someone who knew their work to request a song. George Trenton, who was the only original groupie in the front demanded to hear 'I'm so sick'. Before Sookie could agree or disagree, the song had already begun.
At first, the song sounded sweet and even somewhat mythical until just before the chorus. The reason they were such a successful local band was probably because Sookie was the only girl within fifty miles capable of scremo screaming. The sudden scream would surprise anyone and it did. Sookie looked back to where she had seen Remy before. He wasn't there and she wondered where he had gotten to, but she was too worried with her performance to bother with that right now. He could take care of himself.

He smiled when the song ended and the crowd began to speak to them. When requests were made, he gave an odd look at the sound of the song. He was really getting into it until the chorus, then after that he decided it was time for him to duck out of there for a while. He moved his way through the crowd and out of the barn, heading towards a local flower shop.
He walked in and looked around before finding a long stem rose that seemed freshly plucked from where ever it grew. He smiled, laying down the money needed for the rose, glad he had the currency changed for Europe. After purchasing the rose, he headed back to the barn, glad that he had arrived with enough time left to catch the end of the song. He moved his way back into the crowd, but more towards the far corner of the barn and into the shadows, making himself look hidden.
He continued to listen to the group as they continued to play the barn full of people. He had to admit he was hoping she was able to put her singing to good use, he was glad to see that she had already done that and returned to her roots.

Sookie simply couldn't believe how fast the time seemed to pass. It had only felt like a few minute, but really it had been at least more than an hour. The was sad to say good night to their crowd, but once they did, the crowd started to vanish completely. Will placed his forest green vintage Gibson guitar in its stand and swept her up into his arms, spinning her around and grinning like an idiot. Her relationship with Will was a strange one. They were like siblings and very affectionate with each other, but everyone assumed that they were a couple simply because of that.
Without the crowd being as thick, the barn began to get a little drafty and she retrieved her jacket before helping Beryl, the back up singer and guitarist, take down the drumset. It was then that she remembered the queen of hearts in her pocket. She pulled it out and examined it again breifly before concealing it in her sleeve. Perhaps she had frightened Remy off with their last meeting. She didn't understand why he would send her a card if that were the case though. She returned to the stage to clean up.

As the crowd filed out, some noticed him and some didn't, but to the ones that noticed he just looked like your average drifter stopping in for a show. He tipped his hat up to see the group closing up their show. He waited until the bar was empty before walking up to the group and giving them a slow applause, smiling as he did.
"And here I thought you were just makin music to attract attention."
He to a small run and lept onto the stage, landing a few feet in front of Sookie. He then took her hand in his, bringing the wrist up to his lips as he took off his hat and bent down slightly to give it a small kiss. He then stood up and released her hand, placing his hat back onto his head. He then moved his hands around in front of him as if about to perform a trick, the caused the long stem rose to appear in his hand and held it out to her
"You still know how to entertain the listeners, cher, I enjoyed the whole show."
Of course it was only the half truth, having left before the last song due to his dislike of the type of music it included, but he made sure to keep that bit of information hidden.

Sookie had just finished packing up the base drum when a slow, steady clap attracted her attention. She wasn't the only one who noticed. Will and Zak, the drummer, were carting out pieces of the drum kit and Beryl was scratching at her nail polish when all of their attention was averted to him. Will, Zak, and Beryl looked at each other as if asking who he was, then when he jumped in front of Sookie, their tune changed and they stared at the pair with wide eyes.
Sookie's cheeks were bright red. Mostly because her friends were staring at her, but also because Remy was increasingly charming. She took the rose hesitantly and just as she thought she was safe, Beryl bounded over and placed herself between Remy and Sookie.
"Hey, I'm Beryl. Are you Sookie's boyfriend?"
Then Zak came over.
"I never thought Sookie'd go after a Yank."
Followed by Will.
"You can talk smooth, but if you hurt this girl in any way I'll kick your ass."
Sookie plowed through all of them.
"Shut up! Don't you have shit to do?"
It was clear that Sookie meant they should leave her alone for a minute. She may have been small, but she could be terrifying.

He was enjoying the little attention he was giving her, but was suddenly thrown off by three guys who were addressing him rather rudely. He gave his usual grin as his eyes flashed a red glow before returning to normal, hopefully giving the three gentlemen a chance to step back before they got themselves hurt. He decided to address each one differently, starting with Beryl.
"If you plan on asking a personal question, it would be polite to excuse yourself before interrupting a gentleman's conversation with a lady."
He then looked to the one who called him a yank, "I prefer the term Southern American."
He then looked to the one who pretty much threatened to "kick his ass", "I thank you for the compliment, sir, but if I may introduce myself." he smiled and took a small bow, "Remy Lebeau, card player extraordinaire."
When Sookie burst through the three, he couldn't help but smile at her. She definitely had her way around the guys, but he knew that if any of them tried to confront him in any way, they wouldn't last a minute, but he wouldn't say that out loud. Not yet anyway of course.

Beryl, the only other female in the band, was quick to listen, but her eyes still lingered upon him, knowing that she would find out thing about himself from Sookie that even he didn't know within the next two days. Ty, the base player, luckily wasn't there to obseve the scene, but with knowledge of just how violent and sadistic Sookie could successfully be, they did as they were told and continued to put away the set, giving Sookie her alone time.
"I'm...sorry about them. They're idiots, but they're the closest thing to family I've left."
She bit her bottom lip and finally accepted the rose from him.
"Thank you." she swallowed a lump in her throat and nervously put the silky petals against her nose to better inhale the aroma. Her eyes were down and she began to nervously wring her hands together. "How'd you wind up in Varden? We're in the middle of no where of the middle of no where."
Sookie really wished she weren't so nervous. The problem was that she liked Remy, but she didn't trust herself. She was a bit...wild in and of herself and many people find her frightening because of it.

"It's alright, cher, family's family."
He smiled as she took the rose, smelling it as everybody else went about their own business. When she asked why he was in the town, he couldn't help but shrug.
"I was actually just coming through town. The cabbie decided to stop when everybody was runnin around like crazed turkies, so I followed them towards the barn and saw you playin. Besides, the US is becoming a bit too cramped for my style."
Granted he didn't have much of a life in the states, it didn't mean he didn't like being there. After all, being trapped on an island, hunting down Logan and getting in a fight with a giant stone version of Cain didn't make his love for the states any more fun than it did when he found out he was banned from his own home.
"Besides," he continued, "I figured I need to travel the world and see the sights before I pass from this wonderful life to the next. Maybe I'll swing by Paris and take a look at that Eiffel Tower I hear so much about in this country, but now that I've discovered such a beautiful sight in this town, I may stay for a while."

This furthered her confusion.
"Where did you fly in from? Iceland? Unless that's the case, the driver of your cab was ripping you off. Quickest road to the channel is about a hundred miles south, give or take."
At the mention of the crazy amount of people she had to smile.
"Yeah, our population sort of doubled for the concert. I feel bad for Mr. Green though. I really hope this place doesn't end up collapsing because of us."
Why did he have to keep saying things like that? Things that made her heart feel like it needed to spring out of her chest and run as far away as possible. Things that made her cheeks turn red. Things that changed her witty and blunt self into a shy and maybe even cowering being. "You really are a charmer, aren't you?"
She put one of her hands in her pocket and she found his card again. She extended it to him between her index and middle finger. "There any reason for the queen of hearts or did you just pick a random card?"
She looked around for some place to put the rose he had given her, biting her lip and tapping her foot.

"Not at all" he said with a small laugh, "I flew in straight from the states. The driver just didn't want to take me any farther then this town for some reason. Guess it was out of his driving area."
He smiled and looked around at the barn that he was told was owned by a man named Mr. Green. He was glad to see that someone would open his barn for a band and almost the entire town, or how many other people came in to see the show.
"It was certainly worth the trip made, that's for sure."
He smiled when she called him a charmer, taking a step back and giving her a graceful bow as he removed his hat. He gave her a wink before standing up and placing his hat back onto his head. When she handed him his card back, he smiled and caught her hand and placed another kiss against it before taking the card and placing it back into his pocket.
"There's a reason for everything, cher, just gotta find out what that reason is." he gave her a small smile, "Can't make everything too easy for ya can't I?"

She arched a brow at this. What airport had he even come in from? She didn't know of any airports in this general area. Either way, she was sure the cab driver didn't have the most honorable intentions concerning Remy's transporting. However, she dropped the subject, unsure of if it would be a good idea to bring that into the matter.
She smirked and crossed her arms over her chest, popping her hip out to the side. "I have a feeling you may be stalking me, or at least trying to. I'm really not worth the time, I promise you that."
Sookie examined his display and she had to admit, it confused her a bit. He had a knack for confusing her. She may have been English, but their small town was more like a massive family. No one bothered with formalities or being proper. It was all a bit strange to her. She arched a brow again.
"A reason behind the queen of hearts? It's just a card. A little piece of paper used to play games and gamble."
Beryl jumped on Sookie's back and told her that she was going home and Sookie turned away for a moment to embrace her before bidding her farewell. Will was next, asking if she was ready to go. She looked at her friend, then back at Remy then back again before answering that she would just walk back. Will said goodbye and she and Remy were alone. She swallowed hard once she realized this, unsure of what to do or say next.
