Up All Night (open)

Ian woke with a start, the computer screen showing the information given to him on a small drive that Rose presented. Rose slept soundly in the infirmary as far as he knew, having given her the antidote that Apocalypse helped create. The "Nano-defusor" as it came to be named, rested next to the keyboard.

Ian hadn't slept all day, finding different things to keep him awake, taking small naps but nothing to long. His focus was on this Future Cain and the mutants he was infecting. A part of him hoped that Rose would wake up and tell him more about what was going on. Parker had gone to, though Ian had no idea where his friend had disappeared. He didn't know what was going on in the world now, only hearing words of a new mutant plague and a mutant hating senator.

None of that mattered to him, not now anyway. His only focus was Rose and stopping the one man that had been out to destroy the two of them. He wasn't sure how he was going to stop him, but something told him that this device had the answer. Which is why he was sitting infront of the computer late at night, fighting a losing battle against sleep once more.

Nix sat on the window of the girls dorms corridor and looked out, the light night time breeze blew in and swept though her hair and blew it back over her shoulders and she looked up at the moon above her and she sighed and then turned round on the window sill. She was still wearing her pyjama black bottoms and had a baggy t-shirt on too plus she was her black leather glove tucked in to her waist-band incase she would need them ever, but she didn't sleep well at night any. She stood up and then started walking down the corridor a little and then she paused and thought for a moment, due to her power she didn't ever really need to sleep which meant she wandered around the school a fair bit at night which meant she had been in most of the schools rooms.

She nodded to herself and then started walking down the corridor again, she did like computers and she had her own site online so going down to the computer room could be fun ,or could pass the time well enough for her. She smiled as she passed through the school quietly with no one spotting her and walked to the door to the room and pushed it open slightly

Another yawn came, this one lasting longer then he first thought. Everything seemed so confusing and blurry now, and it seemed sleep was going to win over him again. He did his best to fight it, but his arms that were now crossed over the desk welcomed him openly. Maybe he could just rest his eyes a bit, and as hard as he tried to change his mind, gravity won the battle once again.

The screen moved and worked it's magic over the files, putting them in sections that could be easily accessed. The screen indicated that the file placement was only fifty percent complete. It was halfway there, but for Ian it was moving too slowly. He wished he could add his speed to the computer so it'll sort faster.

His eyes closed as his head nestled into his arms. His last though was of Rose and how he hoped she was recovering well. He had to find out all she knew of what's happened and everything that the drive she gave him could provide. He had the feeling ever since that day that it was up to him to find a way to stop Cain for good. He snored softly as Nix made her way down the hall and into the room.

Nix pushed the door open and slid inside slowly and then closed the door as softly as she could, she knew some of the other students didn't sleep either so meeting another student wouldn't be a lot of a surprise. she gave a small hiss of anger as she tried to take a step towards one of the many different computers in the room but found her t-shirt caught in the door and holding her back. she rolled her eyes and then froze as she heard a snore from the back of the room and then began to tug hard on her trapped shirt with her hands curling up in to fists in anger at her predicament.

She tugged harder and then all of a sudden the door clicked and her t-shirt was released and she fell backwards and landed on the floor with a loud thump, she turned her head to look around for who ever had been sleeping before and hopping that her fall hadn't woken them up. She stood up slowly using a computer to balance her and then bent over and dusted herself off and took a step forwards though the rows of computers, looking for the sleeping person

Ian continued to snooze even as Nix entered, stumbling over the fact that her shirt was caught by the door. None of that woke Ian up, none except for the sudden beeping of the computer he was resting his head on. With a loud snort, he woke up and shook his head.

"I'm up! I'm up!....huh?"

He realized that he had fallen asleep, mostly from the wetness of his arms. Feeling a little embarrassed even though he thought he was alone, he wiped the drool from his mouth and rubbing it off on his shirt. The computer beeped once more, catching Ian's attention. It took him a few seconds to remember what he was doing, and when the computer read that the file sorting was complete, Ian smiled and sighed.

"Finally. I was wondering when this thing would finish. You'd think with a file from the future the computer would be able to read it faster."

He cracked his neck which had gotten stiff over the...how long was he asleep? A glance at the clock in the lower right corner of the screen showed that he had fallen asleep for a half hour. It took a half hour to read everything?

"Well, let's see what she's got."

Nix heard a voice as she walked through the rows of computers and then listened again ,no more snoring either ,who ever ha sheen asleep had clearly woken up again ,nix knew she shouldn't be down some where like this at this time of night so she decided to be honest. She walked past another row of computers and spotted another student and tilted her head to one side slightly, he was younger than she was but a little bit, but she was a senior so that was a bit of a given. "can I be very bold for another student who shouldn't be awake at this hour and ask what your doing down here on a computer when you should be asleep?" nix asked in a oddly loud voice.

She walked up towards the boy and then walked behind him and meant on the chair next the the computer behind him, her tested her hands on the top of it felt it lean away from her and smiled a little before turning her attention back to the other student, he was sitting dead in front of the screen so she couldn't see what he was doing from where she was but she didn't want to move now so she was banking on him talking to her

Stuffed under the desks was a small, cardboard box, mere inches from Ian's feet. It lay undisturbed, no one aware of what was inside. Upon closer examination, one would learn that there was actually a dime sized hole on one side, probably from the last person who used the computer and accidentally kicked it. It looked like a package from home, the original owner having forgotten about the thing when they left the room.

Inside, it was even more like a package from home, with recent pictures of the kids family, a few letters, a new pair of jeans and a few shirts, nothing out of the ordinary. Strangely though, somehow during the packing process, either because the person who had packed it, or something else had happened, the 'Mutant Virus' had somehow come in contact with the contents, contaminating them. And, with that tiny hole, were spreading through the air. Both mutants had been exposed...

He heard a voice behind him and he immediately froze. Only for a second though, at first thinking it was a teacher, then his thoughts going over the question again, realizing it was only a student like him. Wait...student? He stopped being a student on the day he turned into an adult. He looked to her as she sat down, smiling a little as she smiled at him.

"First, I'm not a student. Joined the X-Men a few months ago. Second, I should be asking you that question, but since I've been up all night and haven't slept yet, I'll let you off easy."

He gave her a small smile and winked, showing that he wasn't going to go squealing on her. Besides, there've been plenty of times when he was a student and an average mutant that he skipped out on plenty of rules. In fact, if he could put all the rules he'd broken in a garbage can he's probably need a dumpster.

"I'm actually doing some research right now on some info Rose gave me. She said she got it from...someone she'd met not so long ago. Wouldn't tell me who though."

Nix tilted her to one side and then felt her neck go warm and she rolled her eyes ,"you are such a genius Nixie old girl" she muttered quietly to herself before shrugging her shoulders ,"I don't sleep, I mean my power involve me draining energy from others and it seems that being so close to so many powerful energies are over-dosing me so I actually don't need to sleep or eat, when I do it's just extra for me" she said honestly before tilting her head to the other side.

"I know it's not my place to ask but would you tell me what your power is? I mean in draining from you as we speak and I can feel your worry but your energy has a very good taste" she said before she wiggled her fingers and her shadows flickered in to existence and wrapped around her fingertips. She didn't know the name that the other person had mentioned but it seemed he trusted them and seeing as there was this not so wonderful disease was now out ,she leaned back on the charm again and felt it flex under her weight

She drained energy? No wonder he was feeling more sleepy right now. He had to be careful around her from now on. Though the thought of not being able to sleep sounded a little uncomfortable. When she asked what his power was, he had to think on a way to explain it. Usually he'd just zoom around the place, but since they were in a computer lab, he just shrugged.

"My power is just being really fast. I can go around the world and back in just a few minutes."

He looked at the computer and decided that he had spent enough time infront of it. The files were sorted, and Rose was resting, so he would be able to check all this out tomorrow when he had theh energy to do so. Right now with him being tired, and Nix standing next to him, he didn't feel the need to do anything at the moment.

"You hungry? I can't remember when the last time I ate was. I think it was yesterday afternoon...or maybe evening."

Was he really that tired that he couldn't remember when he ate? Or was it a longer time then he thought?

Nix smiled at the other boy and then flicked her fingers and then the line of shadows around her fingers thickened ,"it's kinds useful for everyone really, I take away negative energy like doubts and fears and worry and my body converts them in side me and then I merely thing of something and they try to create it, it's like they are balancing out my entire system" she said and then rolled her eyes and looked over the floor ,"well, making little trails and cutting slices is easy because it doesn't need a lot of power behind it but somethings, they need more power and if I use too much I end draining the power that keeps me alive like eveyobe else, that's why I was so weak when I teleported down here, or I attempted to at least" she said and then nodded her head. "but I can see how being fast could be handy" she said in a off hand voice before she lifted her head and slid to one side and tried to look at what the boy was doing on the computer screen but she still couldn't see past him

"So you pretty much take away all their negative energy? Isn't that dangerous? I mean I can understand how you would convert it into something useful, but can you imagine being near someone that's evil? It'd probably be too much for you I think."

He listened as she discribed her powers, not really understanding it, but finding it interesting that she could use others energy to do things like teleport. He smiled when she complimented his powers, knowing that it helped him in and out of many hard situations.

"Yeah being fast can be handy, but I've learned that there's somethings that even speed can't help with. Like being able to go through things. By the way, did you want to get on the computer at all?"

He had forgotten that she had come down here and just stumbled upon him. He figured she had come down to use the computer, so he scooted out of the way for her to do whatever it is she wanted to do. He was starting to get hungry though, so maybe he could just run up the stairs, grab a bite to eat then head back.

"I'm going to head to the kitchen. Want anything?"

Nix shook her head and then held her hands out and curled her fingers in to her palms as the boy more over and a block about block a meter of shadows appeared to his right and nix pulled her right hand across and as she did the block followers her and shifted the boy back on to the chair propely again. "it's not quite like that" she explained ,"I take negative feelings, like worry or fear or depression, depression is a powerful one. I can't take thoughts or evil feelings as they aren't normally negative, the person feels happy that they are doing what their doing there's nothing for me to take ,they they suddenly thought they were going to lose and die then I'd have something" she said and then she crossed her arms over her chest

"Im not hungry myself but I am bored, I was just being nosy about what you were doing on the computer so I don't need it, I'll go with you to the kitchen if you like" she said before looking over her sholder around the room to see if there was any one to interfere with what ever the boy was working so hard on

He didn't know what she was doing when she started flexing her fingers, but he suddenly felt himself moving as if something was shifting him around that wasn't himself. When she finally stopped and he found himself righted in the chair, he couldn't help but feel a chill running down his spine.

"That was...pretty creepy." he said, listening to her explain more about her powers, "So pretty much when people are around you, they're always happy?"

He couldn't help a thought that involved Rose being around Nix and always being happy. He couldn't help but wonder if maybe he should introduce the two together, just to see if his theory of her powers would work. Rose being in a good mood was a rare occurance these days. When she said she would go to the kitchen with him, he smiled. He was glad to have met someone new in this place.

"Cool, I'll race ya." he laughed a little. "Just kidding. So is not being hungry an affect of your powers, or is it just because you've already eaten? I can understand it affecting your sleep, but is there any other things that it keeps you from doing?"

Nix smiled and tilted her head to one side a little bit, "not always happy but i take away negative feelings, so if someone came to me and was upset, I'd drain that away and then convert it and they would feel better. But if something happened and they were made to feel sad or worried, i would be able tp drain that from them again and they would feel better" she said and then crossed her arms , "so they can feel bad again, but it wont last all that long" she said and then she rolled her eyes and laughed at the other guy

Nix shook her head and then paused and nodded it instead, "life shadows fuel me, so they act as food and sleep so i dont need either of them, i think i need air but ive never tried with out it so im not totally sure about that" she said with a giggled before she stood up and dusted down her arms as she felt her hair brushed against them. "i think im ok to not sleep and eat in short, but breathing, im not risking" she said with a snigger before she walked over towards the rooms door
