Helga smirked to herself as she counted the loose bills and change that had ended up in her guitar case. She'd definitely have enough money to make rent this month, that was a relief. Being wary of any eyes upon her, she slipped her money into her wallet and then shoved it deep into her backpack. She'd picked enough pockets to know the basic procedure in ensuring one's valuable remained safe. In this case, that involced a backpack stuffed with two hoodies she wouldn't need for anything more than to make the jobs of any fellow pickpocketers just that much harder.
She put her guitar in the case and casually started walking for Central Park. There were always saps who would shell out good money for a song in the park. You'd think she was homeless by the way she dressed, but she wasn't. She just preferred to look unkempt. Besides, a pretty girl alone in the city with nothing but her music to keep her company was a good sell. Especially on the tourists. The worse off she looked, the better it was for business.
She found a bench in the park, vacant, but still in the line of traffic. Helga dug into her pockets and retracted some pocket change which she dropped into her thrift store bought guitar case, just to get the ball rolling. She decided to start off with a song people would know. A song that would get people wanting to cry for her, thinking that the music was a choice based on personal experience. She picked the song Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. It was one of her personal favorites, and it always got her a fair amount of tips. It was a well known song, sad and moving, and something that just about everyone could relate to. Even she could relate to it. That was probably why it did her so well. A stranger dropped a dollar bill into her case and she nodded at him, indicating her thanks, but never took her attention from the song.
