Alucard was standing in the library looking around the area that the oldest books where kept. The librarian kept an eye on him as he looked around. He was handling the books with the care and gentleness that they needed to be handled with, so the librarian was watching him more out of habit then out of any real fear of him damaging them.
Why was Alucard looking around the library though? He had started reading up on some old myths, legends, and stories that sounded similar to his own mutation. He wasn't sure why he had been having issues with his mutation out of late, not the control so much as sudden pain searing through his body, and he wanted to see if there was anything he should watch out for. He had run out of his own books on such things to read about so now he was seeing what the library here had to offer before he looked outside the institute.
Alucard lucked out and found about three books on what he was looking for. There were a few more, but he knew that the librarian wouldn't let him run off with much more then that number of the older books. He handed the books over to the librarian who took them to the front. He followed behind out of that part of the library and decided to look around to see what all the library had to offer. He ended up finding a group of students who were reading one of Shakespeare's works and making fun of it. It was obvious to Alucard that they didn't understand the language of the book, but he was just going to ignore what they were doing until one of them started to rip pages out of it.
Alucard's attention was completely grabbed when the pages started coming out of the book. He didn't like people accidentally harming books, let alone purposefully doing so. He began to walk straight over to them with a look of hatred in his eyes even though his face was blank.

“Flight Identification of European Raptors.” Adin read the title of the book in her hands. She was in the library, hoping to learn more about how hawks and eagles flew so that she might be able to join them in the sky. She shifted her wings under the large jacket she had worn to hide them, and then walked over to where she had left her other book comparing how birds and human inventions flew and picked it up. She had absolutely no interest in how normal people flew, using plains and hand gliders, but she hoped that the book would give her some insight on how to use her new wings.
She sighed. Her mutation had caused her more hardship than anything else. Between losing all of her friends from home and having to relearn how to walk, seeing good aspects of her new gift was hard. The hope that she might be able to fly with her wings was the only good aspect of her mutation that she could see.
Adin turned and started to carefully walk to the front of the library. As she walked by a table, Adin noticed a group of students mocking one of Shakespeare’s plays. She winced sadly as one of them started to damage the book. Books had been the only friends to always be there for her, and it hurt her to see others harming one, but she was too shy and quiet to stand up for the book.
Looking away from the table, Adin noticed a boy walking towards the table who was obliviously as upset as she was about the harm being done to the book. The difference was he had the courage to do something about it. She tried to walk faster, not wanting to get in the way of whatever was about to happen, but by hurrying up she lost her balance and tripped over her clawed feet, landing face first in front of the angry boy. Her face turning red, Adin quickly started to pick herself up, checking to make sure that neither of her books had been damaged in the fall.

Alucard had already figured out what he was going to do to the person who had started ripping pages from the book. He wasn't ever a violent person, but this was one of a very small list of things that instantly got him mad enough to do something about. He was out to make that person's day a living hell, and that was something that Nightshades were very good at doing. He was completely silent as he moved toward the guy, which was probably a good thing since he had a reputation now about how he got when someone damaged a book and he didn't want the guy running off on him.
Alucard was completely focused on the guy until a girl covered in feathers tripped in front of him. The sudden movement of her was enough to catch his attention and make him stop, but the sound that she made when she hit the floor had gotten the group of people's attention and the librarian's as well. The group noticed Alucard and they took off after realizing that he must have seen them tearing up the book since they quickly took off. The librarian noticed what they had been doing to the book and managed to stop them and started to lecture them.
Alucard watched them for a second and decided to leave their punishment up to the librarian since there was a girl who looked like she might need his help in front of him. He bent down next to her and picked up her book off the ground so she didn't have to. He noticed what the books were about and it was easy to guess what she was getting them for, she wanted to learn to fly. He didn't know if she had wings or not, but the bulge on the back of her jacket was a good clue to the fact she did. He picked the books up and held them out for her to take them from him.
" Here are your books miss. I hope you're not hurt." Alucard said to her in a polite tone of voice. " You should be more careful next time, just in case something worse could happen."

Adin wished her mutation was something that let her turn invisible after she fell to the floor. She was standing up when the boy handed her the books she had dropped. “Thanks,” she said shyly as she took back the books. She wondered if he had noticed what they were about, subconsciously pulling her wings closer to her body under her jacket as though trying to hide the mutation.
She looked around and was satisfied to see that the librarian had caught the group of students who had been damaging the books. 'Serves them right,' she thought to herself as she listened to the librarian lecture them. Hopefully it would be a long time before one of them would dare damage another book.
She turned her attention back to the boy in front of her and said, “I’m alright. It’s just these feet.” She indicated her clawed, hawk like feet. “They’re not the best for walking, and I’m still trying to learn how to get around with them.” She decided to leave out the fact that the angry way he had been approaching the group of book damagers had reminded her of the bullies in her old school, the ones who had made her life torture both before and after she her mutation appeared.
Adin hesitated, watching the boy. Friends had been few and far between at her old school. There had been a few others who had tried to stick together and at least support one another when they were being bullied, but they had abandoned her once her mutation appeared. She still wasn’t confident or trusting around people other than her parents, but the boy had been rushing to the defense of a book, an action she could understand. “I’m Adin,” she said, deciding to take a chance and see if she could find a friend.

Alucard studied the girl as she spoke to him. He did so in a way that wasn't rude or really noticable. He had seen what her legs, arms, and really what the rest of her mutation must have looked like under her clothes. She had mentioned that it was hard for her to walk well due to her mutation, which explained the tripping, but he didn't think that it was such a bad thing her feet and hands were like that. She would be able to grab onto things much better, climb surfaces must better and faster, and probably be able to defend herself in hand to hand combat fairly well if she trained herself right. She was a deep red from blushing and she seemed to be feeling very nervous and shy to him. He was thinking of just leaving so that she wouldn't have to feel that way much longer when she told him her name. He looked her in the eyes after she had.
" I'm Alucard. It is a pleasure to meet you Adin." Alucard said to her in a polite way. " I hope you don't mind me saying this, but I think that there is plenty of good things about your legs being like that. You can grab onto things much better, I'm sure you will be able to climb things better, and if you train your self right, you could use them for defending yourself well. If none of those things really matter to you, then at least you don't have to worry about shaving your legs anymore."
Alucard smiled slightly after he had finished talking. He didn't usually smile much, he just wasn't an expressive person with his face, but he did for her since it might calm her down. He just waited to hear what she had to say. He didn't have anything else better to do while he was at the library anyways right now.

Adin listened as Alucard spoke about the possible benefits of her feet. She hadn’t really thought that the claws she had to live with could be good for anything except for making her fall, but she had to admit that he had a point. ‘Meaby I’ve just been too ready to hate them,’ she thought to herself. She was brought back to reality when she heard his comment about shaving her legs. She burst out laughing, earning a glare from the librarian. “I can honestly say that’s a benefit I hadn’t given much thought before,” she said, trying to control herself so she wouldn’t get kicked out of the library. ‘It’s been a long time sense I’ve been able to laugh like that,’ Adin thought sadly, remembering the good times she had shared with her former friends before her mutation appeared. She watched Alucard as he smiled, noticing that the expression looked as though it normally didn’t appear on his face and quietly wondered why. She didn’t see any noticeable signs of his mutation. That was assuming he had one, which was a pretty good assumption at this school.
Adin hesitated, and then asked, “Do you have a mutation?” She realized that this was probably a dumb question at this school, but couldn’t think of anything else to say. Now that she was talking to someone her age, Adin realized that she had missed being able to talk to someone other than her parents. She hoped that he wouldn’t be offended by the question or have someplace to go. Books were always good friends, but sometimes you needed human friends too.

Alucard listened as the girl laughed and commented on his joke about not having to shave her legs. She seemed to have thought it was funny, which was good since he meant that as a joke. He didn't joke much, but he was glad to know that he could if he ever wanted to. She got a look that seemed like she was thinking about something sad for a moment before she suddenly asked if he had a mutation. He did and if he was like his cousin Rose, he would have commented by saying ' oh no, I'm a human. obviously I'm a mutant!', but he wasn't like his cousin so his comment wasn't going to be like that.
" Yes, I have a mutation. I don't think you want to see it though. Other people find it disturbing and many think it is rather gloomy and creepy." Alucard said to her in reply. " I don't think it is any of those, but I'm not about to tell someone else what to think about it either."
Alucard did have some trouble with finding people who didn't find something creepy about his mutation. He wondered if he ever would, but then again, he didn't feel like dealing with the type of person who wouldn't.
(lol sorry Chelsea, just had a moment there were I had to reply like you would >.> I hope I did you proud)

“Alright,” Adin shrugged. She wondered what his mutation could be like, and why people thought it was creepy. Adin was curious about what Alucard’s mutation was, but wasn’t about to pester him to describe it. After facing people who refused to accept her simply because she was a mutant, Adin could understand why someone would not want to show their mutation to others.
“At least you have the option of not telling people what your mutation is. It’s a bit harder if you’re covered in feathers,” Adin said. Her voice was not bitter, simply practical. She had been through plenty of times when she had wished she could have hidden her mutation, but there was nothing she could do to hide the fact that she was a mutant. Something about being covered in feathers, tripping over clawed feet every ten seconds, and having wings tended to be a bit of a giveaway.
Adin wondered if Alucard was as friendless as she was if so many people disliked his mutation. It made her sad to think that even in a school built for mutants people could be isolated by prejudice. She hoped that she could learn to be more open minded than that.
