James took down the elevator to the basement yet again. At this point the process was getting quite routine. If he wasn't down here to work on his powers, he was down here to do research concerning them.
An idea had popped into his head several weeks ago, when he first met Alice, and ever since that time he had been obsessed with trying to see it through. So he worked, and he researched, and he schemed spending day after day far down in the dark reaches of the institute's basement (the nights of course being reserved for time with Alice). It was tough work, and his sleep schedule was beat to hell, but he continued to press on convinced that in the end the results would be worth it.
Today, however was a little different, instead of going to the danger room, or going to the library to do research he had decided to find the man in charge of the school's research budget to submit his proposal. Apparently the man had just returned from some extended trip abroad. He may be eager to get back into the swing of things, thus this may be the perfect time to run a few proposals by him.
James carried with him a folder stuffed full of papers. Everything he could think of to support his proposal was there, data from the danger room, secondary research, blueprints and schematics. In reality some of it was probably unnecessary, but James figured it was better to be over prepared instead of not prepared enough. Besides this man was suppose to be a genius, making a first impression would be very important.
James walked up to the door that led to his office and waited for a few minutes as he shuffled his feet back and forth, feeling the butterflies churn in his stomach.
Finally he built up his courage and knocked on the door of Dr. Hank McCoy.
