Appearance: The right side of John's body is essentially dead, living only a skeleton in its wake. He is still able to use his right side, but many obvious problems come as a result of this. The half that is alive has trouble getting enough nutrition to stay in very good shape. As a result he is rather stringy and weak, often his physical condition would qualify as sickly.

Personality: Once John officially became reaper, he became silent and withdrawn. Being a bridge between life and death he feels unqualified for both. He is a phantom in both worlds, skirting its edges as he tries to make up for his past mistakes. He see's himself as the world's mediator. He is divinely guided to keep the world in balance and out of chaos, until God and his messengers strike him down themselves for being the abomination that he is. His radical life changing experience as worn him down far more then any living being was meant to go, and as a result he is worn, and old. Not on the outside, but on the inside. He is weary of life's roads, and just as tired of wandering the vastness of the afterlife endlessly without rest.
He is a loner and a wanderer, generally detached and monotone. His emotional range is rather small, the largest reaction coming from him normally being the result of some sickness or another. He is opposed to noise and chaos, but he is reluctant to do anything about it until it reaches a certain threshold. A hermit and a vagabond he, is the shadow of others movements, an unseen force that guides the passage of history, if only slightly, to keep it from straying too far from its intended path. He talks little, often in low tones and whispers, though his words and body language can convey much with little gestures. He stays hidden because he is reviled, and he is ashamed. He takes a cold and depressed acceptance of his fate, rather then cursing God for his current existence. After all, it was he who defied God's natural order, and it is he who must pay the price for his actions. He has no true hope for redemption, though he occasionally finds himself wishing for it. He finds himself to be more religious after his accident, however he can rarely bring himself to set foot on hollow ground, for he of course is an abomination unworthy of God's love or attention. He has read the Bible cover to cover, but he is no preacher, and he certainty does not consider himself a saint. He is a traveler on a long and lonely road, one which no one but him can follow. He has little interest in sharing his knowledge and discoveries with the world at large, for it was his curiosity and his arrogance and self-righteousness that brought him to where he was today. Not that he could hope to explain the afterlife as it was anyway. He is disassociated with both the living and the dead, and the idea that anyone will truly reach him is laughable and foolish.

some of us are... different
Power(s): He has to power to remove souls from people's bodies. He also has the ability to find souls and put them back in the world of the living. Being as half his soul is dead and half his soul is alive he can be phantasmal at will on both plains. He can transverse both life and the afterlife...he is wretched and unwanted in both.
Weakness(s): He is essentially cripple on both plains, and if his x-gene was ever enhanced, or weakened he would die instantaneously. He coughs up dust, and has trouble eating, yet eating and drinking are still necessary despite the fact that it is often rejected. in death he is chased by the true reapers who crave his soul intensely for the imbalance that it causes. He is unsafe at any given time.
Cause: Originally, John was known as the redeemer. He had the power to control his soul after death. After overdosing on opiates he discovers that he is not bound by the strings of death and he is free to move around as he pleases. When returning to his body it is restored and he is free to keep living,. Over time John became arrogant, and overly curious about the realm of the dead. He began to attempt crazy depth defying stunts, often baiting death to take him. Once he was dead, he would spend extended amounts of time exploring the afterlife, sure of his own invincibility. One day, while exploring the realm of the dead he came upon a reaper, when attempting to escape his soul was cut in half by the flaming scythe of death, condemning him to the existence he leads now.
