Kat sighed and crossed her arms.
Living here was...no, she didn't know what to think about it yet, really. Sometimes it made her feel like she'd just been dumped here to make things easier for her "guardian," and sometimes she actually felt like she belonged. It was a difficult balance, if one could even call it that. More like a see-saw.
She sighed heavily again, this time making up her mind to lean back against the wall. Her room was down the hall, with the other girls' rooms, but she couldn't very well be social while in there. It wasn't like she shared the room. She knew Terry had asked for her to have her own room, and she was grateful for that, but it meant that now she had to go out of her way to seem less like the antisocial attitude problem she was.
For a moment she wondered why she even bothered. It wasn't like she had anything in common with the other kids here, except for the single reason why she was here in the first place: her status as a mutant. Nothing made her feel more like a freak than being called a mutant, and in a society like this one, how could having powers ever be seen as a good thing?
Enough brooding. Shaking her head to snap herself out of it, she heaved another heavy sigh and forced herself to uncross her arms. Her hands snuck into her pockets instead. Looking first one way down the hall toward the girls dorms, and then the other way down the hall toward the boys dorms, she licked her lips with just a touch of nervousness. Maybe no one would come. Perhaps part of her was hoping that. But she had decided to put herself out there, so hopefully it would be worth it, and she'd meet someone. Maybe.
