Everything that makes your character who they are!
James is a student a few years out of High School traveling the world so to speak, if traveling the world consist of bumming around Minneapolis going from part time job to part time job. His family lives just an hour away in the suburbs and is just vaguely aware of how he lives his day to day life. Things are by no means bad, but they could be better. Essentially after graduating from High School (3.8 GPA 28 ACT) James was unsure of what to do with himself. Urged primarily by his mother to at least become a Liberal Arts, or Philosophy major (those being the subjects he was naturally inclined towards) he declined instead moving to Minneapolis. He had much bigger problems on his mind.
Awakening to his mutation at the age of 15 as a freshman in High School he became incredibly sensitive and involved in the ‘Mutant’ debates that had been going on rampantly for the last few years all throughout the world. The Debates about the passing of the Mutant Registration Act….the new quandaries brought up by ethicist….as well as just the practical implications of living in a society with so many enhanced individuals captivated him. But, in truth, this was only because he now found himself grouped among them. He was lucky, it was incredibly easy if not natural to hide his abilities, so suspicion never came to him, but neither did any form of support. He was forced to bear this burden alone, teaching himself how to control his powers in the dark of night. It was either that, or face the incredibly hostile and fearful environment of his home town….and quite possibly the world. No one in their right mind would willingly suffer the kind of abuse they offered. It wasn’t even a choice. It was the Civil Rights movement all over again, and the Clu Clux Clan was sitting at his door, just waiting to see his face.
But, of course, that was High School and like anyone can tell you the world is much bigger on the outside of those four little walls. He was out of there now, he was an ‘adult’, or at least that is what society had told him. He had to figure out what he wanted to do with his life, where did he stand? What did he believe? That was the problem he faced now, and bumming around here was doing little to solve the issue. He stumbled across a name of a school online…it was supposed to be a school for the ‘gifted’. The rumors online confirmed his suspicions, the place was a haven for mutants. He had been putting off going for some time now…It was a major decision and not something to be taken lightly….and he had to admit it was a little scary….the stories of what some of these mutants could do…not surprising, but disturbing nonetheless. The time had come however, money was low, his lease was up, and his job was about as secure as a glass jar. It was either go to this ‘school’ or head back home to his mom and dealing with a bunch of potentially sketchy mutants was a lot better than dealing with that.

Power(s): Light Manipulation/control: This allows James to do a variety of things such as turn invisible (the first manifestation of the power) to creating light based illusions, and actions.
Weakness(s): The primary weakness of this power comes from its limited range of offensive capabilities. James is also not able to create light but simply manipulate it. The effects of any manipulation are only present when James is consciously manipulating it and no illusion or action has any permanence beyond that. Manipulating light is like painting on a canvas painting something all white or all black is simple it is in the details and the mastery that one must focus on. The larger the area and the more complex the illusion the more effort it takes.
Cause: Though he is unsure when exactly his powers first manifested he can narrow it down to the range of a few weeks in the middle of his freshmen year in high school. Once he began to accumulate absences that were clearly false, and people for one reason or another continued to ignore him he slowly began to realize his situation. After that point any slip up with his powers was generally negated by his popularity within the school (he played varsity basketball throughout his career) and later with counter illusions that served to confuse anyone who was suspicious of him.
. other
Allegiance: Right now he is just a young man trying to find his place in life.
