Taylor was sitting on the beach by herself watching the sun set behind the waters horizon. Her sandals were lying to one side as she felt the sand beneath her feet, still warm from the sun. She would never have been able to get away with this back in Vineland. That’s what she liked about America. Here she could just be Taylor, not the princess. As she looked at the colors in the sky she couldn’t help but to think back to how this was one of the first places she had seen when she had arrived here, the first being Xavier’s. This place was special for another reason as well however. This is where she had met her boyfriend Kyle.
Kyle, now that was another thing she couldn’t help but think about. She and him were so different. He was crazy and spontaneous, like the water, like his power. While she was calm and collected. Hardly ever letting any emotions slip through the mask she had cultivated from childhood. The only time that they really did was whenever she was with Kyle. Though now that she thought about it she guessed that’s why they got along so well.

It didn't take very long for Kyle to stop his girl sitting on the beach with her sandals lying right beside her. The waves were slowly growing closer to her with the tides, and he realized what he should do. With a flick of his wrist, the tides grew faster and came up almost to her feat, and with another flick, they washed over her sandals and yanked them back out to sea so fast there was no way anyone could stop it. Except for Kyle, of course.
He walked up and stood behind her them. By now, the sandals were already gone from sight, sucked into the undertow of the ocean's rough waves. The horizon was beautiful, and so was the back of Taylor's head as he stood behind her. He sat down beside her and smiled at her sneakily, "You know, those fancy little sandals didn't look good on you anyway. You should be grateful the tides swept them away for you."
He only hoped those sandals didn't have some sort of sentimental value to her. They might've been from her homeland or something, and then he'd would feel really guilty. He put his arm around her then and looked out at the horizon, "And you know... I think I might have something to make it up to you with."

Taylor raised an eyebrow when the tides were coming faster and closer to her, and then when they finally took her sandals away. She had a sneaking suspicious that she already knew who was responsible for why she was suddenly shoeless. Her suspiciousness were confirmed when Kyle came and sat beside her. She turned to look at him for a second before facing the horizon again. “I hope the tides have an idea for how I’m supposed to get back to the mansion now without shoes.” Taylor really suspected that Kyle hadn’t thought about that when he had made the water come and take her shoes away.
When Kyle put his arms around her she turned to face him. “Is that a fact? Just how do you plan to make it up to me?” To anyone else her voice was bland and empty of emotion, but Kyle would be able to tell that she was somewhat teasing him. She was curious to see what he would do to make it up to her, not that she particularly liked those sandals anyways, she just wanted to see his expression when he realized that she didn’t really have a way to get home anymore.

Kyle shrugged. "I guess the tides think you can get back barefooted," he offered with a smirk. He kissed her when she said her typical "this is a fact" again. Only this time it was in question form, which made it all the more attractive for Kyle. He nodded then in reply as he continued, "Or, perhaps the tides know that your boyfriend's always watching out for you, and knew the tides would be mean and steal your sandals."
Then he pulled something out from behind his back. They were designer boot-like sandals. He didn't know if she'd like them or not, but he thought they were awesome. He'd been out in the city a little while ago and spotted them in a window he passed by. And he could guess what size she wore. They were waterproof, too, so they wouldn't get all soggy and sticky when she wore them to the beach.
He sat the fancy shoes between them and looked up at her, eagerly waiting to see if she'd like them. Of course, with her unemotional tone, it would be hard to tell if she genuinely liked them or if she was pretending so she wouldn't hurt his feelings. But whether she liked them or not, he wouldn't mind if she didn't. He'd just take them back to the store unless she wanted them. "Do you like 'em?"

Taylor just looked up at Kyle when he said that the tides knew that her boyfriend would watch out for her. She didn’t doubt that since Kyle was the one who controlled the tides he had better have a plan for how she was going to get home now. “Oh really?” She said, deciding to play along. “Just how do the tides know how you’re going to watch out for me?”
Her question was answered when Kyle pulled out a pair of designer sandals. Taylor couldn’t help the surprise that entered her eyes when she saw them. Of course she was used to people buying her really expensive things, but it was different when it came from Kyle. Kyle wasn’t some noble trying to impress her with his money, and something like this most have been quite expensive.
Taylor continued to just stare at the present really not knowing what to say. The sandal were different from anything she had worn before, and would probably never be allowed to wear them back home, but they were defiantly Kyle and that what she liked them. Taylor leaned over and gave Kyle a kiss on the cheek. “I like them.” That was probably the most emotion she had ever shown since they had been dating.

Kyle just smirked at the shimmer of surprise that entered her eyes as he revealed the fancy sandals. And that shimmer turned to something else he couldn't really put his finger on, but he knew it was a good sign. She liked them! That made his somewhat nervous stomach settle down a little. If she hadn't liked them that would have really made him feel horrible, not that he would have showed it to her. But if she had said she didn't like him, his stomach probably would have twisted into a knot in his gut and cause him to go into cardiac arrest or something.
But she liked them, so he had nothing to worry about anymore. He just smiled when she kissed him on the cheek and put his arm around her. "Oh, goody!" he said, probably a little too excitedly. And that was just enough emotion in her to make his heart skip a beat. He'd never met such a masked person that made his heart beat so fast before in his life. But that was the reason he'd been interested in her in the first place. Her emotionless "this is a fact" and other sayings really drove him crazier and crazier, but that was why he loved her.
