He had failed, plain and simple. He had one job and that was to protect Rose, to make sure no harm came to her. He had now idea that finding her would be difficult, or that when he found her, she had been killed. He stayed in the shadows, watching the scene at the construction site. Ian, Alex and Parker were at the mercy of Rose's powers, but then something happened, something not even he could've seen. The "spear" that was meant for Ian, had turned and impaled Rose instead.
How was he going to explain this to Sky, and even Shadow. No doubt Shadow would be furious that her control over Rose failed, but Sky...who knows how she would feel or react, especially with the baby growing bigger inside her. He wasn't able to get Rose from them, the three students of the mansion taking her back to her other home. He was left to retreat to the island.
The water churned and lashed at the rocky shores of the island, even as Cain's solemn form emerged. He stepped onto the island, the watery form changing and shifting to normal. He stood on the edge, waiting for the assault to come from the two most powerful Nightshades. He closed his eyes, knowing Shadow was on her way up, but Sky? He sent her a message that he knew she wouldn't take lightly.
Sky, my love, forgive me. I'm afraid I have failed you

Sky felt Cain return, but it wasn't what she expected. He was alone. Rose wasn't with him...and when she looked into Cain's mind, with his message...tears welled up in her eyes.
Mind screams could be heard throughout the island. Every single Nightmare crumpled to the ground, clutching their hands to their heads. Rose was dead?! It just couldn't be! Sky paced her room, bending over, silent screaming going on. Even Shadow should feel the pain of the screams.
"Ro-chan...Ro-chan!!! RO-CHAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tears were streaming from Sky's eyes as pain coursed through her body. It was bad enough that her sister was dead...but the baby increased her emotions ten fold. Her power went completely amok. Several members of the Nightmares bent over, screaming themselves. Some of them just fainted from the pain.
Soon, Sky calmed down, but mind screams could still be heard. She ran down the steps and into the entrance, seeing Cain there. Her eyes were bloodshot and tears could still be seen running down her face. She then slowly walked over to Cain and fell into his arms.
"Ro-chan...how could this happen? Why? She didn't even remember me..."

He could feel the pain in his mind and knew that Sky had discovered. Even though his mental barriers have been improving greatly, the power of Sky and the child combined was a fight every day. He looked up in time to see Sky standing in the entrance, her eyes red and cheeks wet with tears. He walked up to her as she walked up to him, holding her and comforting her as she cried into him.
"I'm not sure why, my love, but it seems Shadow's control over her was broken. Rose...killed herself rather then her friends."
He looked around as he held Sky, wondering where Shadow was. She would obviously not be pleased to find out her protegee' was killed by her own powers. But knowing Shadow she would just shrug it off as a problem taken care of, and her path to Parker was now open territory.

Sky just cried. She didn't blame Cain for not protecting Rose...and she didn't blame Shadow either. Rose's powers just turned on her and killed her. Sky didn't have her beloved sister anymore...she was gone. "Ro-chan...Rose..." She held Cain closer, as if she was going to fall apart without holding him tight.
A small smile lit her face as Cain mentioned she killed herself rather than her friends. She remembered at the end? Did she remember her older sister...? But Sky would never find out. Rose Nightshade was gone. Her little sister...
"Thank you, Cain. For trying to protect her and for telling me. I just wish...we could bury her." Curse those X-Men! Why do they get the right to bury her sister?!

He held her close to him, his fingers trailing through her hair as she held him. He listened as she spoke, looking up to him and smiling. When she did, he leaned down and kissed her lips gently, letting it for a while before breaking it. He got a mischievous gleam in his eyes when she said she wished they could bury her.
"I could get her for you, if you like."
He would have no trouble going to where the X-Men had buried Rose, stealing her coffin from the graveyard and leaving the mansion questioning how it happened. He was sure Ian and his friends, Parker included, would be furious to know and no doubt go on a search to find where she was taken.

Sky leaned into Cain's touch when he kissed her. Kissing Cain was one of her favorite things to do and she sulked a little when he broke it. But when he mentioned going after Rose's body...Sky suddenly looked down. She did NOT want Cain to see the dark fire that had come over her. An evil light filled her eyes as she contemplated Cain's offer to go after Rose's coffin.
"I'd like that...yes, please do." Her voice was low and deadly. Sky wanted her sister back...and Ian dead. Ian caused all this. Ian was the one who kidnapped Rose and caused her to lose her memory. Sky gritted her teeth...she couldn't believe that she tried to comfort Ian a little while ago when he was dying. She should have killed him when she had the chance, before letting the damn X-Men heal him. Her breathing changed...more tears came, but they were angry tears. Tears of hate.
"While you're at it...kill Ian. He needs to go."

"Then she will be here before the week is out."
He held her against him as she looked down, and he could feel something changing inside her. Her breathing had changed, the beat of her heart, and when she looked up, a hatred he had never seen shown in her eyes. It was then she said the words that had surprised even him, one that made him smile and kiss her softly, letting it linger.
Sky had changed now that Rose was dead. The hatred and evil that now stewed inside her was one of the Nightshades. One that he was sure Shadow would've been smiling gladly about had she been up here. Sky wanted Ian dead, now as much if not more then he did himself, and it was a wish he was more then happy to grant.
"Consider the boy dead."

Sky looked up at Cain, the evil light diminishing a little when she gazed into his eyes. She had so much love for this man. Her hands wandered down to her stomach, stroking it, thinking about the child that was growing inside. Suddenly, she was at peace, but still...
She nodded when he said that Ian was as good as dead and she kissed him, with a lot more fire this time. Sky wanted more than just little kisses and she didn't care if Shadow was nearby. Let her watch...she loved disgusting her cousin. Wrapping her arms around his neck, Sky brought Cain closer against her. He was so muscular and she loved each inch of him...her loss was forgotten in her passion for the moment.

He stared into her eyes when she looked up at him, glad he had pleased her with his words. When her hand moved to her stomache, his hand moved to cover hers. Their son was growing strong inside of her, and he couldn't wait to see how powerful the young mutant will become.
When she kissed him, her arms wrapping around his form, he greatfully returned the kiss, his own arms wrapping around her and lifting her up into him. The fire that burned inside from her kiss was one that seemed to make the entire island seem warm. He was getting close to just taking her outside on the island at that moment.
