Crux walked slowly down the sandy beach, staring out into the distace. He managed to avoid looking at anyone, and if he accidently met someone's eyes - and he occasionally did - he immediately looked away out into the horizon again. He knew people looked at him alot, probably curious of who he was. He could usually feel it when someone looked at him. He still hated the feeling of being watched, and that was partially the reason for his suspicious nature.
He'd only left the hideout because he felt like he needed some space. Sure, no one messed with him back at the hideout because most of the other Runaways were probably worried he'd kill them. No one really understood him, and he knew that no one ever would.
He hung his head and looked down at his feet, his trench moving gently with ever step he took. He hadn't planned to become part of any group... but the Runaways were the only ones he felt he could fit into. At least the other mutants there felt pain that was similar to his. Maybe if he could start a conversation with one of them, he could get some of his guilt from his past off his chest. Even after all these years, he still hated himself for what he did. A trustworthy friend was really what he needed.
Only problem was he barely trusted himself. How could he ever trust someone else? Especially with his past...

The ocean slowly calmed down as Tari walked along the beach. She was in a cheerful, peaceful mood today and the water mimicked her emotions. Water swarmed near her feet as she waltzed across the sand. It was a beautiful day, but Tari still worried about events that have occurred around the world...both Tokyo and Afghanistan were completely obliterated by Cain. And he was sure to destroy some other place sometime. But today...Tari didn't want to worry today. Her emotions were tight under her control. If they weren't...the whole city would be flooded and destroyed.
Soon, Tari realized she wasn't alone. A lone man stood on the beach a little distance away and she tilted her head in puzzlement. Usually when she walked this beach, it was completely deserted.

Crux had seen the girl there, not very far away from him, but didn't think anything of her. He was used to having a few other people walking the beach when he was there. She looked happy. He wished he could be that happy... He shook his head, only glancing at her a moment before he turned back to face the ocean.
Then he hesitated. Did the waves just change? He could've sworn they weren't that calm a minute ago... He looked back at the girl again suspiciously. The ocean's waves don't change that quickly. But then he just figured he was being paranoid and began to walk in the opposite direction again a little slower this time.

Tari stared at this guy. Loneliness seemed to haunt him and she suddenly wanted to help, in some way. She soon walked towards him, a concerned look on her face.
"You ok?" The water followed her, but Tari paid it no mind. "Something happen?"

Crux turned around to face her but avoided making eye contact. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt her. "I'm fine," he lied, and waited for her to say something else. He was the opposite of social, and he wanted to just leave but he didn't want to be rude.
He watched and noticed the water was following her, so that just confirmed his suspicions. She was some sort of water mutant. But he'd never seen her before... not near the Runaway's hideout or near the x-men's institute either. Maybe she was just mutant. Maybe she didn't need an alliance.
He hated meeting nice people. It just made him feel even guiltier if he hurt them. And this girl was obviously a good person...
