She rolled her eyes at him then. Buidlings and sentinels were not what she had in mind. "Cain might be cold and heartless, but he has feelings. Everyone has feelings. There must be someone or something he really cares about," Anya explained.
"You haven't touched all the people I have. You don't know their stories like I do. I've touched everyone from an overdramatic spoiled crybaby brat to an emotionless depressed, silent guy who hates everything. Everyone cares about something. We just have to find what or who it is that Cain secretly loves."

"I doubt Cain has anybody."
He couldn't think of anybody who would be close to Cain, or even think of being in love with him. He watched as Anya explained about her powers, the things she experienced and what she had seen inside people. He sighed, sitting back in the chair again, wondering where she was going with this. He gave her a curious look afterwards.
"Anya, as much as I'd like to find out, how do you plan to touch him?"

After she said it she knew she knew she'd never get a chance to touch him. And definitely not long enough to get details about someone or something he really cares about.
She hesitated a moment as he asked, and pursed her lips. "No idea." She sighed and slid down the wall, sitting on the floor beside it.
"Isn't there anything about his past on the flash drive?" If there wasn't, their mission to the MRF was basically pointless.

"I've looked through the entire file. It said he had parents, but they died of unknown causes."
He watched as Anya slid down to the floor, and lightly spun himself in the chair, his head staring up at the spinning ceiling. He stopped the chair and looked to Anya, catching her eyes again as he tried to think of something. He thought about how she was able to detect things that she touched, and that gave him a small idea. It was, as most of the ideas with Cain, a long shot, but if it worked...
"Anya, what if we managed to get something from the MRF wreckage. Would you be able to see if Cain had somebody close in that building?"

She tried really hard to think of another idea, but nothing came to mind. But meeting his eyes, she read his thoughts again. Then when he actually proposed his ideas out loud, she narrowed her eyes as she thought.
Even if there was something in the debris that helped with figuring out who or what Cain was close to, she'd never be able to pull out enough information from just touching wreckage. She supposed it might be worth a shot. But honestly, she didn't want to go back... at least not for today. She would go, though, if David thought they should.
"Maybe..." she shrugged, "It depends on who's touched it. But that probably won't help with details, and we're going to need lots of details to piss Cain off." She sighed before she added, "And honestly, I have no idea what we could possibly find in that pile of mess that could help us."

"I think we did that enough when we caused him to launch himself into the central computer."
He chuckled and laughed a little, remembering the moment when he tricked Cain into launching himself at him. The electrical form being absorbed by the copper and shot into the entire system. He could only imagined the look on Cain's face as his body was shot all over the place just by one small piece of metal. His smile faded as he heard her theory, knowing that they would need alot of information if they wanted to really get Cain to expose his weakness.
"Why is it that finding a way to beat the bad guy always is harder then it should be?"

Anya shook her head with a smile as he laughed. But then she sighed and tilted her head back, staring at the ceiling again. When he asked his question she closed her eyes.
She only knew the answer to that question because of all the people she'd touched. And she hated sounding all smart and wise, knowing that it would probably surprise him, but she answered him anyway.
"Because that's what seperates bad guys from heroes. Heroes have to work harder and longer than villians to win a victory. Everything comes easy to them," she looked at him then, "But nothing comes easy to us. And we still fight for the right reasons anyway." She hadn't noticed until after she said it that she'd changed heroes to us.

"Being a hero sucks sometimes, you know?"
He sighed when he said that, laying back in the chair and looking up at the ceiling. He looked back over to the screen as she spoke, seeing Cain's leering face looking back at him. A few more keys punched and the folder closed, the screen going blank. He didn't understand it until she said us that he pretty much said the same thing. They had both called themselves heroes. He chuckled a bit and looked at her, thinking of all they had done today.
"But then again, being a hero can be fun to."

She nodded and crossed her legs over each other as she sat on the floor. Then she smiled at him when he said it was fun, too. That was true. They'd had a lot of fun, excluding the fact that Cain showed up. And even that, after they'd gotten out of the collapsing building, looking back on it, was actually fun, too. Not to mention the night at the beach.
Her smile grew brighter as she thought of it, "Definitely."

"Man, can you imagine the look on that wacko's face when he went into the computer?"
He played that image over and over in his mind, and the more he thought of it, the more he began imagining how it would look with a little cartoonish feel to it. Cain charging at him, him dropping to the ground, and Cain's eyes widening with an "Aw Crap" before being sucked into the computer.
"Man, some adventure."

Anya just laughed as she saw his cartoonified version of their fight with Cain though eye contact. She was kind of used to it now, but it still puzzled her. Why couldn't she read anyone else's mind through their eyes? She was still working on an answer.
"Yeah," she nodded, then giggled a little again, "It's a shame we can't tell anyone about it... we'd get a lot of shocked stares and glory."

"Yeah, not to mention massive scolding from the teachers. I'm sure Ayden's going to get me, and Xavier's gonna get both of us."
He chuckled as he thought about Ayden scolding him for running off and doing something foolish. He sighed and shut down the computer, standing up and stretching. This entire day had gotten to him and he was beginning to feel the effects. He yawned and walked over to Anya, holding down a hand to help her up.
"I'm getting kinda hungry. Care to raid the fridge with me?"

She looked into his eyes as he thought of Ayden. Anya had known about her, but she hadn't ever come up in conversation with David before. The only person who would be furious with her for running off just for a little flash drive was her brother, but as far as she was concerned, he'd never have to know.
Her concentration broke when he came over to her and spoke of food. She nodded, taking his hand, "Sure."

He smiled and took her hand in his, not caring what thoughts she picked up from his touch. He helped her onto her feet and made sure everything was shut down and left alone. He walked over to the computer and took the flash drive out, holding it up for Anya with an "almost forgot" look on his face. He smirked and placed it in his pocket. He walked up to her, smiling and holding out an arm as if to escort her from the computer room. (I think we can end it here for now

Anya actually ignored his thoughts as he touched her this time. It was never easy to do, but she was already getting enough thoughts from just making eye contact. She shook her head slightly as he held up the flash drive. If anyone else found it... she didn't even want to think about it. As he walked back over, she took his arm and let him lead the way. (Yep. The End. )
