Hayley knew that her uncle would kill her for not coming home, but she hated her curfew. She'd been awake for almost a full twenty-four hours, but she still wasn't very tired. She yawned every once in a while, but nothing more.
She always came to the pier when she had to think through something, or if she had nothing better to do. This morning, she didn't know exactly why she'd come, but walked down the the end of the pier and sat down, her feet hanging over the edge and swishing back and forth.
She watched the sun as it peeked around the horizon. It always gave her a sense of peace, and she felt that she needed peace right now. She was just trying to ignore what day it was. But as she heard someone else coming down the pier, she looked over her shoulder to see who it was. She'd never seen them before, so she smiled and said, "Hello."

Lola had just gotten off work. Sure, most of the patrons of the club left a few hours ago, even the ones who had had more than enough to drink. There was always at least one good paying idiot who got too drunk for his own good. She and the girls never minded. Getting twenties instead of ones was never a bad thing.
She was on her way home when she decided to stop at the beach. With her nocturnal schedule, she never really got to go to the beach anymore. She was tired as could be and she couldn’t wait to get home and curl up in the sun.
Her mind nearly dead, Lola didn’t even notice Hayley until she spoke. She snapped back into reality and smiled weakly at the girl.
“Hi. It’s a bit early for you to be out isn’t it?”
Granted, Lola probably wasn’t much older than the girl, but she was more mature than most people gave her credit for.

Haley scanned over her. She was never one to judge, but she was very good at reading people. Definitely a mutant, she decided. "Not really. I love sunrise, and I've got nothing else better to do," she admitted.
It's not like there was a school who'd take a orange-haired freak like her. She'd heard of some mansion where mutants were taught, but she wasn't really that interested. She liked being independent and living on her own. But she looked a lot younger than she really was, and was used to comments like the one she was just given by this new stranger.
"I'm Hayley, by the way," she said. Then she waited for the girl to respond.

“That makes one of us. I never get to go to the beach anymore so I decided to drop by before going home.”
Lola always kept busy. If she wasn’t at work, the only place she had grown to truly hate, she was at home, either designing something new or creating something else to wear or possibly sell. She had sold a few of her pieces, but only the ones that she didn’t really love.
“I’m Lola.”
She would never introduce herself by her birth name. Rebecca. It just wasn’t her.

So a night job. Hayley thought a moment. "I only come here when I need to think something through," she admitted. "But this time I just came for the view." She smiled then and turned back to the sun slowly rising over the horizon.
"So where were you on your way home from, if you don't mind me asking," Hayley asked, trying not to sound too nosy. She honestly didn't care one way or the other if Lola answered her. But Hayley was completely open about herself, though, if Lola wanted to ask her anything.

Lola nodded. “Nothing beats a sunset, even if you are sleep deprived.” She yawned.
She sighed. Here came the moment of truth. It was when she mentioned her occupation that people who seemed to like her took a turn of the worst.
“Work. Uhm…it’s a dance club and bar called Diamond Legz. I doubt you’ve heard of it. In fact, I hope you haven’t.”

Hayley nodded in agreement. Nothing beat a sunset or a sunrise. But then said she worked at Diamond Legz. Hayley looked back at her then, and pulled her sunglasses down her nose to get a better look at her. Yep, so not surprising. She smiled, though, in amusement and if it hadn't seemed rude she probably would have laughed. Not at her, of course, but at the second part of what she said.
"Actually," she pushed her sunglasses back up and turned back to the sunrise. "I have heard of it. Depressing as that may be, I do know my way around this whole state like the back of my hand... That includes the adult places."

She exhaled a sigh.
“It’s not as if I’m proud of it. I don’t really have a lot of options right now.”
Lola dropped her bag onto the ground and leapt up onto the railing effortlessly, landing on the banner without as much as a sound dispite her heels. She glanced down at the sand below the pier. If she wanted to, she could have easily jumped down and landed on her feet, but she didn’t need to make a show of herself.

Hayley watched her jump like it was nothing. Yep, definitely mutant...
"I don't have any options. No one believes I'm old enough to do real work. I don't have my liscence so I can't prove my age. Oh well, so I'm stuck with serving at a drive thru. Chick-fil-A is not all that fun to work at, but at least I get discounts."
She smirked then. She did look younger than she was, but she didn't look so young that she couldn't drive yet. Did she really appear younger than sixteen...?

Lola merely shrugged.
“At least it pays better than Chick-fil-A.”
Lola hoped that the girl would assume she just knew the smell of the drive thru well, but not many people would assume that she had the sense of smell of a cat. She yawned and stretched her arms over her head.

Hayley just looked at her then curiously as she yawned and stretched.
"How old are you, anyway? Are you even old enough to work at a place like Diamond Legz?"
Lola might be 21, but for some reason Hayley had a feeling she was younger. That, and she knew of a few people who lied about their age to get into jobs... especially jobs for places like Diamond Legz.
