Morgan entered Starbucks his bright blue eyes searched around for his niece Hayley, she was not here and once again he would have to wait for her. He gave a frustrated sigh, ordered himself a green tea cappuccino and took a seat at the large window. He had just finished work, it had been an intense day, one man had died but he wouldn’t tell Hayley that. She was still young and Morgan didn’t want to worry her about things she should not know. Sipping on the cold drink he looked over his shoulder at one of the morning papers someone had left. Taking it from the table he opened it up on his and began to read.
Morgan never really read the paper just looked through it quickly until something caught his eye. An article on mutants did, another protest what was new. He shook his head slightly before taking another sip of his green tea. He was meeting Hayley here to speak with her about her parents; her father had contacted Morgan, his brother asking what Hayley was up to. Morgan had hung p on him after he had told Hayley’s father that she was doing well and that she didn’t need to return home, besides they didn’t want her, they had disowned her. And now after these few years, now they wanted her back. No Morgan was not going to let that happen, but he wanted to ask Hayley see what she thought.

Hayley ran. It actually wasn't her fault that she was late to meet Uncle Morgan again. She'd lost track of time with her new friend down at the river bank, and she'd left her watch on the desk back at home. The only reason she'd remembered their meeting at all was because her friend had to get back to work, and she left the river, only remembering then that she was supposed to meet him.
She was running down the street and opened the door. A bunch of people looked to her then as she panted in the doorway. Giving a few people a stubborn look, as if to say, "What're you lookin at?" she found Uncle Morgan in her normal seat near the big window. She slid into the seat across from him with a nervous sort of smile.
"I'm only ten minutes late this time. Considering that I was an hour late last time, this really isn't that bad..." she smiled innocently for a moment, then sighed and leaned back in her chair. "What was it that you wanted to talk to me about?" She knew it wasn't about his work. He must've known by now that his surgery talk bored her. But something in her gut told her it was something about her parents, no matter how much she hoped it wasn't.

Morgan smirked at his redheaded nice and shook his head slowly, he didn’t bother to get upset or act disappointed, it was expected now by her. He’d ask her later on why she was late, and where she had been. He wasn’t her father, but he was the closest thing to family she had. Sighing he slid his green tea drink to the side of the table along with the day’s newspaper. “Hayley” he started his bright blue eyes staring at his now folded hands upon the table’s surface. It was like he was doing an interview for a new secretary, but it was instead something entirely different.
“Hayley…. I got a call the other night when you weren’t home… it was your dad and he had asked about ya, wanted to know how you were, I told them you were doing well, they asked about your mutant powers too” he paused shrugging his shoulders. “I told them that was none of their business then hung up on your dad… I think they’re calling because their considering taking you back… that’s what I wanted to bring ya here for” he explained feeling the need now to take a sip from his cold drink.
“So... if it ever came down to it I don’t want you to think you have to stay with me, I know I’m not your dad, or your mom… but I would miss ya if you decided to go” he admitted giving her a half smile. Morgan truly did love his niece, and he knew if she left his life would be very empty indeed.

Hayley just listened to everything he said, thankful that he didn't complain about her tardiness. But she could tell by the tone in his voice when he said her name that this wasn't a friendly little chat he'd called her for. And he only confirmed her suspicions about her parents as he explained. She only scoffed when he said they might have been considering taking her back. She wanted absolutely nothing to do with them. They'd disowned her because of her creepy little shield powers, why the heck would they randomly want her back now?
"You were smart to hang up on them," she said grimly, looking around at all the people in the little coffee shop.
But then he went on saying how she didn't have to stay with him. She focused on him then, giving him one of her "are you out of your mind?" looks. "What are you talking about? I'm not going anywhere!" she smiled back at him. "You're insane if you think I would even consider going back to live with those fools. I may be biologically related to them, but they never loved me, not after the whole glowing incident."
Hayley smirked, thinking back on the memory. It was true, her powers came to light by her whole body glowing a brighter orange than her hair, if that were possible. She had to admit, the look on everyone's faces was pretty priceless.
