Since Gisli's return to the school she’d had to deal with quite a few things. The first, and most important? Shakaku. The two’s friendship was on thin ice at the moment, Gisli still broken from their farewell, Shakaku thinking she was worse off then she really was… She’d spent the rest of that first day back lost in thought. Trying to figure out a solution to things. She also spent time trying to figure out her feelings towards him. What were they?
Shakaku was her closest friend at the school, actually… He was one of her only friends… She knew a few people, but he’d been the only one she’d ever been willing to spend time with. She could still remember just how crushed she’d been when he hadn’t told her to stay, the only words she’d wanted to hear. It’d almost made her cry…
That was behind them though. And that first day, he’d admitted he’d wanted her to stay. But why hadn’t he been able to say those words?
Her emotions were on a rollercoaster. Haunted with how to fix her friendship with Shakaku, and deal with the newest problem… One that she’d been trying to deal with emotionally for a while. The school had offered to let her meet with Hazel for some help coming to terms with it… But she’d turned them down. What she wanted… Was to be able to share it with the only person close to her. But she didn’t want to accidently curse him. The solution? She wrote a letter, slipping it under his bedroom door and retreating as fast as possible in case he had been in there.
Shakaku- I hate how hard it is to talk to you. How awkward things were…. And I don’t hate you. I hate the fact that you couldn’t ask me to stay, but I don’t hate you. When I was gone… I couldn’t get a question out of my head. Why did you choose then to be selfless? Why couldn’t you have been selfish and made me stay? I wish you had.
Things sort of… happened when I was gone. It’s why I’m back after all. It’s what I’ve been wanting to talk about but been too afraid to say. I never should have left. There’d been signs… Like why had my family chosen then to contact me? Why hadn’t they found me after my parents died…
I’m getting side tracked. Maybe I’m just trying to put off writing it. I’ll stop with the fluff.
They were crooks. You know, criminals. And when they found out that there was a mutant in the family they sort of…. Well they aren’t all that great. They wanted me to use my power to help them rob banks. Fantastic, huh? They didn’t just throw me into it though, they were really nice at first, and started off on really small stuff that I didn’t even think about. And when they wanted me to hurt a police officer…
I don’t really want to go into detail about what happened. It’s not that pleasant. You might, or might not have cared to much what it was on my mind…. But I had to tell someone. You’re the only person I’d trust with something like this…
The paper wasn’t in the best condition, some of the pencil smeared from where tears had landed on the paper. At the bottom was a mess of scratched out words, so heavily marked to make out anything. She hadn’t known how to end the letter, and just left it at that.
With a letter under his door, Gisli wasn’t sure where to go. If she went back to her room, Shakaku might show up as soon as he read the letter. Would his presence be welcome right now? Yes, and no. Yes because it’d be comforting, but no because she didn’t want him to see her like this. Finally, she retreated to the first empty classroom she passed. It was the Chemistry lab. She’d always liked science to a degree.
Gisli closed the door behind her, not bothering to turn on the lights as she sat at one of the tables, her arms folded on it’s hard surface and her face buried in her arms. God, writing that letter had been torture. She’d left out most of the details, like how they’d reacted every time she refused to do something, but even the small amount she did put in hurt. Thinking of even the smallest part made everything come back…

*Shakaku out when the message came. He was actually at the stables half way hoping to run into Nezumi. He was thinking of giving her a new nickname but wanted to make sure that it would be good for her. With no luck he came back to his room. Opening his door he stepped on a random piece of paper that had been slipped under his door. Closing the door Shakaku picked up the paper. He saw it was from Gisli and read it quite thoughtfully. He made sure that Furai was still safe in her bed, sleeping. Then he made his way to Gisli's room. After knocking a few times with no answer he asumed that she wasn't there. He had no idea where she would go. He also couldn't ask Furai to find her because she was out for the winter.*
*He found himself wondering around, making his way to the class rooms. He did see the kid with a cast on his arm, the face looked familiar. But yet different, the expression was frightened. That's where he had seen the kid. That was the guy who destroyed the book. And donated twenty dollars to him. The kid was frozen with fear, coming from a class, probably talking to a teacher, or hanging with friends. As Shakaku took a few steps towards the kid the poor guy yelled for help.*

Gisli didn’t know how long she sat there, just… well sulking was the best word. She’d stopped crying a while ago, though her eyes were still a little red. No one had entered the room, thank goodness, she really didn’t want anyone to see that she’d been crying. Sure, it’d be bad if Shakaku saw, but some random person she didn’t know? That was a lot worse.
She would have continued with her sulking for who knew how long, but it seemed reality didn’t want that to happen. A kid was yelling down the hall. His words were inaudible, but she could hear a hint of fear in the voice. Great, what was going on now? She really didn’t want to go check it out. What made it worse was a part of her really couldn’t be that selfish. How could she just sit here, being moody and pitiful when someone was obviously scared for who knew why.
With a forced sigh, Gisli sat up, running her fingers through her hair to try and get rid of most the tangles. Reluctantly, she left the room, heading in the direction she could hear the boy.
She wasn’t surprised when she spotted the boy in the cast and his tormentor…. Who hadn’t done anything yet. Why did Shakaku have to do this all the time? “Shakaku, you’ve already tormented the kid. Leave him be…”

*Shakaku had backed the kid into a corner. Ready to finish what he had started. He had actually been keeping an eye out for the kid's face. He didn't think he would find him in this area. If he knew that then he would have come here more often. But that was when he heard Gisli he looked, giving time for the kid to sneak away. This girl was looking more like a goddess every second to this guy. Her voice like a beautiful silver bell, but harsh as a thunderstorm. That was the voice of a goddess.*
Gisli, are you alright.
*Noticing her blood shot eyes, it looked like she had been crying. Plus Shakaku wanted to change the subject. She always seemed to get mad at him when he was doing something like this. Half the time it wasn't fun once she stepped in. He was sad to lose another victim but was glad to have found Gisli. The letter was vague but seemed hard for her to wright. He wanted her to know that he was here for her. No matter what. And he would kill anyone who tried to hurt her. Even if it meant him getting kicked out of the school.*

It made Gisli smile a little that the kid was smart enough to take off as soon as Shakaku had looked away from him. Sure, it still irked her that Shakaku had been this close to tormenting the poor kid, but it was good he had stopped as soon as she’d shown up.
Really though, what were the chances of running into him? Especially in the classroom wing! She’d only come here because it had been one of the least likely of places to run into any person!
Shakaku always changed the subject when she’d caught him bullying someone, it shouldn’t have surprised her. Still, she didn’t like where the subject change was going. He’d almost instantly noticed her red eyes. She reached up to cover the bottom of her face and make sure no more tears had escaped. “Do I really look that bad…?” She didn’t want anyone, let alone Shakaku see her cry, or after she’d cried! She didn’t like crying!
Still… He was concerned? Not a usual reaction she’d seen from him, but she hadn’t done anything to really make him worry before now, so she wouldn’t have even had a chance to see this side of him. Finally though, she sighed, lowering her hands. “I’m fine…”

*Shakaku wondered if it was writing the letter that had made her cry. There were some teary spots on it. He had known the kid had left so he didn't bother looking back, or around to find him.*
You look fine.
*He didn't mean it the way that she thought he did. Girls can be so unpredictable. One moment their mad at you for something you did, then the next their worrying about how they looked. That was why he didn't bother trying to keep up with some things girls did, or said. He didn't quite believe her when she said that she was fine. If she was fine she wouldn't have been crying. But it she said that she was fine than he would leave it alone.*
What are you doing near the class rooms?
*It was odd for him to be here too but he thought he would keep the conversation flowing since he knew that Gisli was shy. Shakaku was out going but not in the way that most people were. He was more likely to start a fight than make a friend. Everyone knew that, well almost everyone. Well everyone except for some stupid new kids.*

It wasn’t so much the writing that had made her cry, but really the whole having to relive it at. Even if the letter hadn’t been all that detailed about exactly what had happened, or how bad it’d really been, but based off of her reaction from even a letter was pretty bad.
His… well sort of compliment made her smile just a little. Shakaku wasn’t the type of person to compliment people very often, so even something as small as that was a treat of sorts. If only she felt fine… Sure she’d said she was, but it had been a pretty obvious lie, obvious enough that Shakaku had caught onto it near instantly, but didn’t push it.
Maybe that was one of the reasons she enjoyed his friendship so much. He almost seemed to know when to not push a subject that might upset her. If only other people could see this side of him…
“I don’t know… Seemed like the best place to hide…”
She really had been hiding, trying to avoid as many people as possible. You’d think her room would be the safest place to hide, but…. Well she hadn’t been thinking all that clearly. Still wasn’t thinking all that clearly.

*Shakaku understood that she was hiding but wouldn't the best place to hide be your own room. If you didn't want to be bothered all you had to do is not answer the door. Maybe she wasn't thinking straight after writing that letter that was about what happened when she was gone. An abandoned class room was the best place to not be over heard or seen. Unless someone walks in on you, but then Shakaku was just used to scaring them off. That was where him and Kaitou often met to come up with pranks against other students. Being in a room, someone might over hear. And there didn't feel like there was that much privacy in a room. Especially when you were talking about 'top secret' things. He generally avoided the science class rooms. Partially because there were lots of things to play with that he would get in real trouble if they some how broke. Even thought messing with the propane was fun. That made fire much faster, and it was fun to play with. That was where he learned to control the fire better. Even thought he shouldn't have even been in there.*

Shakaku’s silence wasn’t what Gisli was expecting. Sure she was comfortable with most silences, but Shakaku? He was to outgoing for that. Sadly, this wasn’t a comfortable silence. Wait… What was he doing here? He wasn’t the type that hung out around here!
“What about you? This can’t be the best place to pick on people, not with the teachers so close…”
Why had he even been stupid enough to go after a student right outside of the classrooms? Sure, some of them weren’t in use, or no classes had been there today, like the Chemistry room, but there were still some rooms with teachers in them. This had to be the absolute worst place to try and bully other students!
She fidgeted where she stood, shifting her weight from foot to foot. Her mind wandered, wondering if he’d seen and read her note, or if he had been tormenting students instead. She was half scared to ask though. What was she supposed to say? If he hadn’t read it he’d probably wonder what she was talking about, and why she’d been crying. If he had… She didn’t know how he might react. Would he want to know just what she had left out? Or would he leave things as they are?
“… Did you… Get the note..?”
There was a little hesitation in her voice, as if not all that happy about having to ask. It obviously wasn’t a subject she liked, but she needed to know.

*Shakaku thoguht. Why was he here. Well he was just wondering around. Taking random corners. He had just ended up here, and spotted his pray.*
Just wondering around. Wasn't really thinking.
*It was true, he didn't think about the teachers around that could possibly have over heard the cries for help. But luckily Gisli stepped in before that could have happened. When it came to the note Shakaku nodded. He had gotten it but wasn't sure if he should talk about it. He was sure that she wouldn't want to explain. From the looks of her she had been crying for quite a while. Meaning that it was hard enough for her to wright what she did. He wasn't about to let her feel bad. If she was sad then she wouldn't stop him as much and then he wouldn't be able to see her as much. So it was, in a scene, a selfish motive. But it was more to benefit Gisli.*
I did. But if you don't want to talk about it that's fine. We all have things that we don't want to talk about. We all have problems.

Gisli smiled a little, finding it a little funny that Shakaku, one of the biggest bullies at the school, could make such an elementary mistake. He was usually very careful to steer clear of all school staff when going after students. It was one of the reasons no one could pin all the bullying on him. “I don’t think you’ve done that before.” Shakaku liked to stay with a few victims, and it seemed he’d take any pass at them, even risking a teacher finally catching him.
She was definitely relieved when he nodded. Okay, no questions of what the note was would come up. Still, it was a little strange. The only other people that had really known what happened were a few of the staff that had needed to know. Shakaku was the only person she had personally told. Was that a good thing? Well, it said just how much she trusted him…
“Yeah… Just…” She paused, uncertain how to word it. “It’s to fresh to really talk about it without getting upset…” Maybe someday she’d be able to fully share what had happened, but right now? She just wasn’t ready. The fact that she’d even managed to share as much as she had was an achievement.

*Shakaku smiled, it turned out to look more mischivious that it was meant to be but that was just how he was. He understood that she didn't want to talk about it just now. He looked around, now spotting a teacher peaking out his door to see if he had just imagined the ruckus. Thinking that he did he dissapeared back into his class room to finish grading some tests.*
I'm going to head to the oriental store. You wanna come?
*Shakaku loved that place. He could buy food from his home country and then not feel so home sick. Plus they had the only type of treats and candy that he liked. The American stuff was way to sugary and just tasted nasty. He preferred what he grew up with.*
I'm running low on a few things.
*Shakaku had a stash of Japanese treats in his room. Anyone who knew him well knew that. He had tried some of the candies in America, but they didn't taste as good as what he grew up with. The only American treat that he sort of liked was ice cream, but he could only eat it once in a great while.*

Gisli was used to Shakaku’s smiles always having some sort of mischievous twist to them. She’d never seen a semi normal smile from him. Actually, most people had never even seen a smile from him! He was so secretive about who he let see him so open, and it made her happy that she was one of those people he trusted. The teacher’s appearance was expected, a little slower then she’d thought but oh well. It only proved that if she hadn’t stopped Shakaku when she had, he would have been caught without a doubt. What luck she had…
His question almost surprised her a little. They hadn’t hung out outside of the school before now, but that was probably because Gisli rarely even left the school grounds. Should she go? It shouldn’t be a hard decision. “Oh, sure.” She was still a little surprised that he’d asked.
She’d never been to an Oriental store before. Her first concern? She wouldn’t understand a single thing. She didn’t speak any language other than English… Well no that wasn’t exactly true. Her mother was a US immigrant from Iceland, so she knew a little Icelandic, but was nowhere near fluent. All she knew were a few words here and there.
Her second concern? She wouldn’t understand a single thing! Okay, sure it was her first concern, but it was a pretty big concern. There was no way she could guess what Asian characters meant. She just hoped Shakaku didn’t try and have her eat anything disgusting…

*Shakaku nodded and headed towards the exit. He had the money in his pocket, hopefully enough for some good things. He did want Gisli to try some of his favorite foods, but he did understand if she was too scared to try them. Once out side he let Gisli catch up to him so that they were walking side by side. He always went to a specific store and they knew him fairly well. He always spoke Japanese there, and worried that Gisli would feel out of place not understanding. But not only Asian's shopped at the oriental stores. They left the school grounds without incident and Shakaku started to lead her in the right direction.*
Have you ever been to an Oriental store before?
*His next question would be if she had tried any Asian food, other than the obvious. Obvious being things like sushi and stuff. He knew that lots of people at the school liked sushi because he often found it in the fridge with their name on it. Shakaku had even done that once or twice. But he mainly liked to have things to snack on in his room. He was willing to share, but only with his friends, or people he liked. Witch were pretty much the same people.*

Gisli stopped herself from hesitating before falling into step behind Shakaku until they were out of the school. Once the doors had closed behind them Shakaku had actually slowed down just enough that they could walk side by side. It wasn’t that odd of him, but he’d rarely ever done something like that before she’d left the school. He’d wanted to keep his image after all! And if someone saw him hanging out with someone like her… Well Shakaku would not be happy about his drop in reputation!
Gisli shook her head when he finally spoke. “Never.” She hadn’t had a reason to go into one before now, actually. Not to mention… She wasn’t all that fond of fish, and a lot of Asian food involved fish. It wasn’t that she hated it, but it wasn’t something she willingly ate on a daily basis.
She didn’t even know where an Oriental store was! That just showed how often she got out of the school… Or just how much she seemed to ignore the stores. It was a little depressing, especially since her only friends were Asians! “Never really had a reason to go to one before…” It probably wouldn’t surprise him. She never left the school grounds unless she had to, so what were the chances of her going to one when she did leave the grounds?
