”Have you made any friends at your new school?” The speaker was an older woman, probably in her forties with far too much make-up to try to mask her age. Her entirely black garb made her look like she was going to a funeral. A slutty funeral. Anyway, the point was, while most people knew this woman as Doctor Michelle O’Conner, Scylla simply knew her as her current slave driver… And therapist.
”Oh, plenty! Honestly, everyone’s made me feel so welcome!” Scylla’s tone reeked of joy, which, to those who knew the girl, was a total and complete lie. Doctor O’Conner happened to be one of such person. The older woman frowned, tapping the end of her pen against her notepad, which was obviously devoted entirely to this teenager…
”You’re a horrible liar.” Scylla couldn’t help but smirk by this, but her gaze only grew a touch darker.
”Only when I want to be, Dr. O’Conner. Are we done here? Don’t want to keep your other hopeless cases waiting.” the teenager’s words obviously struck a nerve, Dr. O’Conner actually twitching in retaliation. ”Scylla, this isn’t over with. Things will be a lot easier if you just open up to be, and be honest. I can’t help you if you won’t let me.” The older woman snapped the notebook shut, rising to her feet. ”I expect to see you here again next week.”
Scylla’s expression didn’t change for several moments, her almost sinister gaze focused entirely on the Psychologist. Finally though, when the older woman started to squirm under this gaze, a small controlled smile touching Scylla’s lips. ”Don’t worry, Doctor. I’ll be here. The real question is, will you be here next week?”
This wasn’t the first time Scylla had indirectly threatened the woman. In fact, it happened at least once every session. That didn’t mean the woman ever got used to this though, in fact she always seemed just as shocked, and horrified, as the first time. Today was no different, she looked positively disturbed by the threat, and Scylla, after a moment’s hesitation, looked especially smug. On her own feet, she left the office without another word, leaving the therapist to dwell on exactly what Scylla had said.
The streets of New York were crowded, like usual, but it was a rather well off part of town, which was a bit understandable. Only a Psychopathologist, an expert in mental illnesses and behavior, could handle a Psychopath client. Oh, the fun it would be to put a regular Psychologist in a room with Scylla…. She’d tear the person apart. The point was though, a Psychopathologist didn’t come cheap. They were specialists, after all.
Wandering the streets with no destination in mind, Scylla let her gaze wander, watching the crowd like they were a pack of animals. Oh, she could read them, like a book. One man she passed, who had to be in his mid fifties, wrapped around the waste of a slinky brunette. The man wore no wedding ring, neither did the woman. But she did have a very unusual tan line from where a wedding ring would be. Looks like someone was trying to hide the fact she was married. A young man was dressed up all nice and fancy, but the dark shadows under his eyes, slightly hollow cheeks and sickly complexion just screamed druggy. You see, everyone tries to pass for something they aren’t. The teenager couldn’t help but smirk a little by this, but quickly bowed her head just enough to hide it from the crowd. Didn’t want to draw attention to herself. Not that her wild red hair didn’t do that already.
Soon, she found herself at a café, a small, homey place that, to a normal person would bring on the desire to curl up in a plush arm chair with a good book and your favorite mug of coffee. The downside, is the mere thought of that disgusted little miss Psychopath. But, at the same time, it was great hunting ground. She hadn’t resorted to murder yet (as far as anyone knew, if she had, she wasn’t telling. It was her own dirty little secret.), but if it ever came to that, she knew exactly where to start. It was the kind of place you’d find yourself spending hours chatting with complete strangers, and then leave with them. Normally, she wouldn’t resort to anything more than stalking an individual, honing her skills. Today was not that day. Today, she felt an uncontrollable need to… experiment a bit.
Scylla ordered a mug of coffee, a completely generic, and lack luster flavor that so many people seemed to enjoy for reasons she could never understand… But, it was a conversation starter, whether you knew it or not. Now, all she had to do was find a target… Her gaze carefully swept over the crowd, before finally settling on the only person sitting alone…
Putting on a small, sincere smile, or so it looked, she approached the table. Oh, she didn't actually mean this friendly air, but no one would ever know. Only an expert in lie detection, a trained specialized, or a natural born lie detector, which was extremely rare to be honest, would see the deceit in that smile or like in her eyes. "Hi, I'm Samantha. Mind if I join you?"

It was an average day for Sam the sun was up people went about there everyday things. On days like this people didn't really bug Sam as long as they stayed out of his set seclude that he had made in his head that of corse no one else knew because he was unwilling to share. The day had simply started out with him watching a movie chilling for a bit he read a bit at the house, went to the gym and then for a walk after. From the worlds point of veiw he didn't do much at all he was just being a lazy ass teenager.
Sam walked into a coffee shop ordered a pumpkin steamer and sat down in an empty table he pulled out a book form his messenger bag and started to read for awhile that was when a girl walked up to him and asked if she could join him. Sam gestured towards the chair across form him “go ahead Samuel by the way”
now that he had company he figured it was unlikely for him to get to read much more people tended to like to talk to complete strangers for some reason and this girl seemed friendly that see might just ask what the book was about and if he liked he. In his head he was slowly perpairing himself for what she may say next or maybe he be lucky and she just drink her coffee and walk out but she doughted it people who sat at a table with someone else at it rarely where just there to eat and go well it seemed his plans that day would change slightly but...he could use this to his advantage if he felt that he needed to things could get substitute for a good reason.

Scylla had already scored once, because this guy did not seem too pleased by her presence. He tried to hide his distaste, of course, but it was a futile effort in front of Scylla. She could read this teenager better then he could read that book in his hands. It only made her smile. If she wasn’t on her… best behavior it might have come off as incredibly twisted. Instead, it was a very charming and sweet smile, nothing out of the ordinary. She lowered herself into the seat across from him, waiting several moments before even speaking. She spent that time taking a sip from her mug, her blue-gray gaze slowly memorizing everything it could about this young man. The pause wasn’t for her examination of him though, it was a well rehearsed motion, to make her seem more normal. You see, people seemed to take a moments break when meeting someone knew, Scylla didn’t understand why, but to blend in, she did exactly that. Mimicking the behavior of a normal teenage girl.
She was silent just barely long enough to be polite, before lowering the mug to the table, softly setting it down and smiling at him again. ”It’s nice to meet you, Samuel.” She paused, just long enough to seem normal, forcing her gaze to drop to the book in his hands. The obvious conversation starter. As much as she detested it, she had to use it. She had to come off as innocent and predictable. For now at least. ”What are you reading?” Her head tilted slightly, to emphasis her question and interest. Her body language had to fit her words. The first rule of lying and deceit…

Sam just nodded when she said that it was good to meet him only if she really knew. He sipped his drink his eyes barely leaving the book trying to read as much of the chapter as he could before she start talking again to him it wasn't long before she asked the same old question that so many people asked it wasn't even funny. Sam looked up at her and smiled really looking at her for the frist time.
“Its called Midnighters, its about there being an extra hour of the day for only a few teens and they all have powers also they are monsters that only live in that hour so the kids fight them” Sam said expecting the next questions that every almost normal human whould as of what it was about he put the book down and looked her up and down memorizing her as well for his own reasons he may need it latter it could come in handy one day.
“So do you like to read Samantha” Sam said with a small smile setting the book down, he wanted to get what this girl was about who she was it was pretty clear that she was wanting to talk Sam wasn't going to stop her she could talk her little mouth off all day long his plans just changed but he mold them to his liking that’s what people like Sam did he may of not been so bent on trying to act normal and blend in like the female across form him but he could still fake a smile with out a normal person knowing that it was fake and act like he was enjoying him self. Very little did he realize that the woman he was talking to was acting and what she was planing heck at this moment Sam was just trying to fiugre out what type of person she was besides blond and friendly.

Midnighters. It was a series. One, she’d never read herself, but she was very familiar with the author… ”You mean the series by Scott Westerfeld?” She smiled. It was innocent enough, to anyone that saw it, but to her, it was a triumph. She’d found something he was interested in, or so it would seem. It might seem like a small feat, but to her, it was a way in. A way to weasel herself into his head, to start figuring out what made him tick. He was taking charge of the conversation as well, speaking before she could say anything else. Well, she could play bookworm. If that’s what it took to get in this guy’s head… ”Yeah. I’ll read anything you put in front of me! I’ve actually read most of Scott Westerfeld’s books, but not Midnighters yet. My personal favorite is Peeps.” She smiled. Whether he knew it or not, she was cunningly spinning a web, forcing him into a conversation. She didn’t actually ask any questions, but her comment was left open, as if waiting for him to finish it. It’d seem innocent enough, then again, this was Scylla’s doing… There was nothing innocent about her. ”Is the series any good?” Again, a very innocent question, double meaning behind it.
Everything Scylla said wasn’t for the heck of it. There was a reason behind everything. Her gaze seemed to meet his because it was polite, but in reality she was reading him, learning how to recognize his facial queues and body language. ”So, you live around here?” Again, her gaze, while seeming harmless, watched him meticulously. It was getting easier to read him with everything he said and did.
Everyone expressed emotions the same way, the same expressions, the same muscle twitches, basically there wasn’t anything unique about a person’s actual expressions. What made everything look different though, was the actual face. No one looked the exact same as another, so, they may have the same reaction to an emotion, but the express would be slightly different. That’s why when you were learning to read someone, you made them feel what you wanted them to feel, so you could quickly and efficiently learn how to read them… That is exactly what she was doing.
((hahahaha, I am amused by your book choice. Unlike Scylla, I have read Midnighters. And almost every other Scott Westerfeld book out there. Oh, and she’d a redhead, not blonde ))

Sam raised a brow when she said that she had read it along with most of Scott Westerfeld's books “really what do you enjoy peeps thats his one about the parasites isn't it, that one was different for him but an interesting read.” Sam watched the girl as she spoke so she was a reader that was interesting but Westerfild books wheren't really what you'd call a hard core reading it was for teens mostly but thats what the two of them where.
Sam smirked a little when she asked if he was around hear “I travel a bit I have a small apartment that I stay in, in the city but I mostly live out of town I come to town mostly for the fact it gets me away form the family” Sam sipped some of his drink “and you do you live in the city or nearby or you visiting the big apple” There where tons of tourist all the time in the city they didn't come in to little coffee places like this most the time they liked there Starbucks and other easy to get anywhere food.
Sam was watching every move she made every little tilt of the head every little habit like moving her hair behind her hair or something detils where key when it came to stuff like this and most people never realized they did things like this. Part of what made Sam so useful with his power and for him to use it is he new the details that most people missed.
“So Samantha what have you thought of Westerfilds latest books that came out the steam punk ones. Or have you not gotten your hands on them yet”
“
(My book choice is simple Westerfild is the best there have been only three authors that I can thank for who I am today Snicket, Westerfild, J.K Rolling.
And gahhh REALLY why was I thinking blond >< )

Peeps was by no means her ‘favorite’ book of all time. Just her favorite Scott Westerfeld. In fact, she wasn’t overly fond of Scott Westerfeld books in general (Peeps being the only exception.), mostly for the reason that Sam mentioned, they were teen books. He didn’t need t o know that though. ”A number of reasons. I liked the twist on vampirism, the random parasite chapters were funny, and I loved the fact that it started in the middle of a fast paced scene instead of building up to one.” Scylla got bored very easily, which was probably why she didn’t like Scott Westerfeld books. If the book didn’t start in the middle of something exciting, she got bored and put it down. She’d only read the rest of his books because it was easier to pass off as ‘normal’ when you saw her with a typical teen read.
Sam wasn’t lying about his living arrangements, and if she were normal she would have been surprised by the surplus of information he gave. Either he wasn’t shy about people knowing everything about him, or he had a rambling problem. She wasn’t quite sure which yet. None the less, she smiled sweetly. ”I just moved here a few days ago.” Her expression and body language didn’t give her away. She made sure to nod as she spoke, so her body language matched what she said, that smile still innocent and gaze softly aimed in his direction. Just like if you were telling the truth.
Was he… trying to read her? Oh, he was! Scylla’s lip twitched slightly in a smile, the girl not even trying to hide it. He wouldn’t think anything of it. He’d think she was just being friendly, when in reality she was laughing at him. Poor guy, he’d probably feel like an idiot when her true colors showed. Everything he was doing now would be a waste of time… She took a drink from her coffee, to make herself seem more relaxed.
”To be honest, I haven’t really gotten into the series yet. I’ve read the first one, not so much the others. They’re not my favorite of his.”

Sam listened to her explain why she loved peeps it was better then her saying that she loved twilight or something like that. “O you loved the fact it started fast then...Hmm” Sam paused for only a moment “ you might like his adult book it starts off with the leads kidnapping a god so its not as slow some of his others” Sam smirked as he said it he leasioned as she said that she only had just moved hear.
“O well if you need a tour guild I can help you find your way around town” Sam said almost flirting he was trying to figure out what he was going to do with this girl he could play the good boy have her think he was wonderful show her books stores but right now she just seemed like a normal person and Sam didn't really like to hang out with normal people unless he could us them.
He continued to watch her every movement reading her every movement, She seemed to smile for some reason Sam didn't pay much mind to it expect the fact that she was smileing like any normal person would. Sam leaned a little back in the chair “So what other books have you read that you liked” Sam said “Like do you have a favorite auother that you really like to read all the time”

Game…. Set…. Match…
His offer to be tour guide was, in her mind, a victory. He didn’t find anything off about her. Her charade was fooling him. She smiled, and this time it was better planned. It was a reaction to his offer, but while most would find it purely innocent, it was anything but. She was silently celebrating her victory. People were so… willing to be useful to a cute girl like her, they didn’t even realize they were exposing themselves. By offering to play tour guide for her, he was doing much more than being a nice guy. He was giving her more time. Whatever that meant… Well, you’d have to wait and find out.
”That’d be great! I’ve been a little directionally challenged since moving, any help would be appreciated.” She smile sweetly, raising her mug for a small sip. Her gaze dropped to the cup for only a moment. Almost gone. She knew her social queues. When the cup was empty, she had to wrap up the conversation in only a few minutes… and leave. With or without him. If she dragged her feet, it could come off as desperate, and that was the last thing she wanted this guy to think. Basically, she’d have to be careful with the remaining coffee in the cup, but never go to long without drinking. Geez, why did humans have to make socializing such a pain? All of this felt complete overkill, and unnecessary to Scylla. Oh well, she’d keep the charade as long as necessary… As long as there was a reward in the end.
What other authors did she like… Now that was a tricky question. She didn’t necessarily ‘like’ any authors. Or anything for that matter. It was more of a… appreciation. She’d play human though, a thoughtful expression touching her face. It wasn’t a lie either. Her mind was working at a million miles an hour, trying to decide what authors to name. ”It’d hard to pick just one! But, if I had to I’d say..” She forced herself to pause for dramatic effect. ”Michael Crichton. He’s best known for writing the Jurassic Park books.” Now, this was an answer few would expect. And it would make this normal teenage girl seem far more mysterious. Like there was more to meet the eye. Which was the point. It would peak a person’s interest, keep them hanging around to discover more about her… It was time to see if Samuel was one such person. ”What about you?”

Sam smiled when she said that he let him play tour guide that ment that she trusted him enough to be alone with him or at least trusted him to the point she was willing to leave the room with him. He took another sip of his drink when he did looking at his cup for a moment he could just go and by another cup of something maybe a coffee this time but if he got another cup and she wasn't planing on staying to much longer then it might make her think that he was up to something.
He lesioned to who her favorite author was and wasn't even surprised the writer of a very poplar book and for people around there ages there had been many who had read it for the simple reason that the movies came out when they where younger people around Samantha and his age grew up with this world with Dinos eating people on t.v so for the girl to say that she liked it Sam didn't even blink an eye just something he threw in the box of what he could maybe use latter. He thought for a moment when she asked him what he liked.
“I can't say I have a favorite either there so much that I have read over the years.....i guess..” this question Sam didn't really like to ever answer this question it was to hard to think of an answer for it. “C.S Lewis is a good one maybe not my favorite but he is good”
