On the High School Social ladder, you couldn’t let lower then Reverie McIntyre. In fact, she wasn’t even on the social ladder, she’d completely fallen off. Most students, and X-men for that matter, didn’t even realize the girl was a student, let alone there. Well… Unless she managed to piss you off, then it turned into all out war against the poor girl.
Today was one of those ‘Kill the mindreading witch!’ days. The girl had accidentally walked in on a rather…. Brutal looking senior boy, and his simple minded girlfriend having a little too much fun. As you could imagine, when they realized she was there, the girlfriend freaked out and went running… While the boyfriend proceeded to chase the poor Scottish girl, with plans of pummeling her. Or murdering. It was hard to tell since his thoughts were kind of all over the place, but they all revolved around ending the girl.
Somehow, Reverie managed to get away from teen hulk by taking a shortcut through the tunnels. She knew the tunnels like the back of her hand, so it wasn’t too hard. Staying out of the guy’s line of sight for several days though…. Not the easiest thing. Especially when he was on the lookout for her. There were a few close calls, but the last incident was even more close then everything else. He’d actually caught up to her, and due to his dangerous power (which was ice manipulation), almost froze her solid. He got very… very close to succeeding though…
Reverie had barely managed to escape, stumbling through the secret passages, and coming out in the Hangar. Well, this was a first for her. She’d never been in the Hangar, or even seen the Jet in real life. Only pictures. If this was any other situation, she’d actually be quite proud of her accomplishment, but not today. She curled up on the ground, wrapping her arms around herself, shivering. Her skin was bright red from the frost that covered her whole body, her lips blue and her teeth chattering. Gosh dang it, why wouldn’t the guy give up already? She’d already apologized over a dozen times, to BOTH parties involved!
Still shivering, she looked around the hangar, looking for something, anything, that might help her warm up a little. What she found, or heard, wasn’t what she was expecting. A person. She could hear their thoughts… Getting closer... And closer. Stumbling to her feet, her crystal blue eyes went wide as she searched for the source of these thoughts. No one in sight. Either they weren’t in the Hangar yet, and they would be soon enough, or they were moving and she obviously couldn’t see them. Not paying attention to what the thoughts were (and she should have, or she would have realized this wasn’t the bully pursuing her), she stumbled to her feet, retreating behind a crate of supplies and hiding from sight, shivering… and absolutely terrifying.

X-23 was taking a walk through the school watching the students scurry to class or just talk to friends. They had such happy expressions on their faces as they spoke to their fellow classmates and friends. Laura’s face on the other hand looked expressionless and hard. She didn’t express emotions like most humans, or in this case, mutants did. She just wasn’t raised to be like this, only a clone for killing. Still she longed for those emotions to rise. She had felt before with the few other friends she had. Normal life was difficult for the clone since she was practically raised to be killing machine.
As she walked on, she bumped into a bubbly girl who was speaking rather loudly to her two other friends. She turned ready to insult X-23, but stopped short when she saw who it was. “I apologize for bumping into you.” X-23 said politely. The girl’s face turned a ghostly white and Laura could practically smell the fear radiating from the girl. Without a response, her and two companions left swiftly toward their class. X-23 watched them go a tiny bit of disappointment forming in the pit of her stomach. The rumors were everywhere. She was the emotionless killer Talon and no one wanted to get involved with her. She looked at her hand imagining for a moment that they were blood stained. She hated being treated this way, but X-23 knew she had to keep going. If it was one thing she knew, it was surviving no matter what.
The black haired girl looked up when she felt the presence of someone running toward her. She went stiff ready to defend herself if need be. It was all for nothing. A scared blonde haired girl ran by, a large boy following clumsily after. She could feel anger radiating from the boy as he passed. The girl probably had upset him and he was trying to get revenge on the girl. The black haired girl thought of helping but then realized she shouldn’t get into trouble and worsen her reputation. Still she needed to help. A sign she was slowly regaining her human emotions.
X-23 followed being a master tracker. It wasn’t difficult to track to two since the boy was leaving a mess of ice trails and girl’s fear scent was so strong. It led through the secret tunnels that the mansion held. X-23 had traveled through these many times and still was finding new passages. It was baffling for this place to have so many secret passages. X-23 had caught up to the boy who was now looking for the girl. They were now in the Hangar were the jet was kept.
The black haired girl walked up to the boy with her usual expressionless and calm face. He turned suddenly startled by the girl’s presence. “You should stop pursuing the girl. You are terrifying her.” Laura said bluntly. The boy, assuming X-23 was with the girl, took a swing at X-23. His face looked a little pale so she assumed he knew who she was. X-23 simply sidestepped the boy and stuck out her claws. The blades were inches from his throat and he froze. X-23 had to force herself not to kill. “I assume you know who I am.” She said in a low tone. “I would advice you to leave quietly and just forget about this incident.” The boy swallowed hard and nodded slowly. He didn’t even dare to use his powers. He just left.
X-23 sighed heavily as she let her claws retract. Her natural instinct to kill was hard to control sometimes when being attacked. Luckily she had been training with Logan to hold that killer back. She didn’t want to be the mindless assassin she once was. Sensing the fear from the girl nearby, Laura thought it best too tell her the threat was gone. X-23 walked over to the crate the girl was behind and jumped atop it. She looked down at the girl with her green eyes and crouched to look less threatening, though from the position of the girl it might have still looked threatening. “The threat is gone.” She said, and then paused. Maybe she should have worded that differently. “I mean the boy has left.”

When Reverie had been fleeing her pursuer, it was a miracle she didn’t run into anyone. With her motion blindness, she couldn’t see anyone she passed, but she did, indeed, see the infamous X-23 and managed to run around her, because the older girl had been completely still. It wasn’t like she could recognize the black haired mutant anyway, no one told Reverie anything, so it was a wonder she even realized the older girl was an X-men!
That wasn’t the point though. The point was, Reverie was hiding, trying to wait out the brute until he cooled off. At least, that was the plan. Until she heard thoughts approaching. For several moments, she was absolutely convinced she would be found. That this time, she’d be turned into a full blown icicle. Goodbye, cruel world.
Apparently, her thoughts were getting a little to creative, because that was not what happened. There were two pairs of thoughts. Actually, it was more than thoughts. She could hear someone, a woman. She didn’t recognize the voice, or what was being said. After a moment, one pair of thoughts started to get quieter and quieter, obviously moving away…. While the other drew ever closer. Not stopping to figure out which person was going which way, she pressed her back against the crate, trying to make herself appear as small as possible, and hopefully avoid detection. She even held her breath, which probably wasn’t the smartest idea, but no one had ever said she was rational when scared to death!
She remained like that, holding her breath, trying to remain as still as possible (but still shivering profusely.), for several moments. Finally, she heard something… and felt to be honest! Someone had jumped up on the crate, hard enough she could feel the vibration through her back. Her whole body flinched violently, fully expecting an attack. Instead, she heard that female voice again. American by the sound of it. That didn’t stop her from flinching once again, while stumbling on her hands and legs away from the crate, quickly turning so she could see this intruder. It took her a minute to realize what was said, or even that the older girl was there, which was a bit unusual (Well, it was only unusual to people who didn’t know the girl.). Finally though, blinking like crazy, shivering, and her face turning with embarrassment, she opened her mouth to speak up. ”A-ah….. H-h-he is?” She had an incredibly strong stutter, which was typical of the girl when she became embarrassed, but being freezing obviously didn’t help. Nor did her thick Scottish accent. Basically, you’d be lucky to understand her.
Reverie fell silent for a moment, staggering to her feet, her electric blue gaze never leaving this stranger. Obviously she was terrified, but now it was a question of if she was terrified from her adventure, or if this fear was now coming from interaction with a total stranger. ”D-d-did y-ye…” She shut up, mostly because she was so self conscious about her accent, before forcing herself to continue. ”Ah m-mean…. A-ah…. Ah pass.. passe’ ye….. I-in th-the hall…. Ye…… Y-ye f-f-followed m-me?” Now, she honestly looked like she was going to pass out, as if she was somehow coming to the conclusion that this strange woman was in cahoots with that Teen hulk.

X-23 listened, head tilted. It was difficulty to decipher the girl’s words due to the constant chattering of teeth. That and along with her thick accent X-23 only could make out a few major words. Piece those together X-23 then understood what she was trying get across. “It looked as if you needed help.” The black haired girl responded rather monotone. Her face was still expressionless, though in her mind she thought this could be a good opportunity to make a friend. She jumped down off the create and stood in front of the blond girl.
Noticing how cold the girl looked, X-23 proceeded to take her jacket off. It had been chilly that day and one of few of friends had suggested she wear a warm jacket. As a habit, X-23 took that as an order and had gotten a jacket to wear. She didn’t mind being cold. She was trained to endure the harshest snows in only a short sleeve shirt and shorts, bear foot in all. The black haired girl handed over the jacket to the girl hoping it will help warm her up a bit. The ice in the area had chilled the hanger so it’d been best if the girl had something covering some of her cold body.
“Are uninjured?” The girl asked. She could detect no visible injures. No smell of blood or noticeable bruises. “That young man seemed to be very upset with you. What did you do to make him so angry?” The young X-man asked. The way X-23 spoke was very contradicting to how she looked. She spoke very properly and maturely, never using slang. However, she looked like a normal seventeen-year-old girl. She was wearing her usual black attire; black t-shit, black pants, black military boots, black arm guards. If you didn’t know better, you’d think she was just an average goth/punk girl.
Coming back to the matter at hand, the blond still looked frightened and shook up from the events that had taken place. X-23 wanted to help her out following her newly surfaced human emotions. Her green eyes looked as if the black haired girl were studying the blond, but in fact X-23 was just trying to think of a way to help the girl out. She had given the girl her jacket for warmth. Maybe she could beat up the boy of mistreating this young lady, but that was no good. The other X-men had told her not to use her abilities unnecessarily hurt others. It wasn’t how normal people did things. Instead X-23 just settled on introducing herself to the girl. “I am X-23,” She paused hesitant in what she had just said. “I mean Laura, Laura Kinney.”

Reverie was honestly trying to stop herself from shivering, but there wasn't much she could do about the stuttering and accent. And, of course, hearing the young woman's difficulty in deciphering her words, only made Reverie even more reluctant to speak again! So, instead of actually saying anything, she just nodded, casting her gaze downward. Yeah, she'd definitely needed help, otherwise she would have been a human icicle! Not exactly a fun thought...
Not so surprisingly, she didn't see the older girl take off her jacket, or even hold it out to her, for several moments. When she finally did realize what was going on, her face turned beat red, but she didn't have the heart to turn it down, cautiously reaching out to take the article of clothing and wrapping it around her shoulder's, again, nodding her thanks. The girl didn't mind the cold, obviously, but when someone was trying to give you frostbite? Well, you'd start to notice it pretty quickly.
Her gaze was cast downward once again, it was easier that way, not to mention she had a habit of thinking the worst of people before getting to know them. "Ah'm fine...." The chattering had subdued quite a bit, so it was a little easier to understand her Scottish accent. She couldn't help but frown when the older girl asked what Reverie had done.... and when she remembered exactly what had happened... Her face turned even redder. "Ah..... Ah w-walked in.... On..... h-him and his.... g-g-girlfriend...." She stopped there. It wouldn't be to hard to figure out what she meant.
She was staring at the ground once again, or rather, she'd never looked up. At least, not until she heard the older girl introduce herself, a stunned look on her face. Honestly, she looked like that was the last thing she'd expected! "....." She opened her mouth, probably to introduce herself in turn, but quickly clamped it shut. You could almost see the wheels in her head turning, as if trying to figure out if the introduction was sincere. Obviously, this was a girl who had serious trust issues with people. Thus far though... Laura's thoughts were matching up with what she said... After a few second's pause, she reopened her mouth, this time to actually say something. "Ah'm R-Reverie..... McIntyre..."

Odd how this girl acted. Reverie was obviously not very good with social skills just like X-23. The black hair girl just looked at the blond girl as she spoke. “It is good you are unharmed.” She said. It was strange how people could get so worked up about little things. She had only accidentally bumped into the young man and woman. No need to attack the blond girl. It was painfully obvious that Reverie had not been any fights, or at least never won any fights. She wasn’t a fighter as far as X-23 could tell.
Her thoughts began to wander and she pushed away the thoughts of fighting. It was all right if someone couldn’t fight. At least that’s what Professor X and the others were trying to teach her. It was starting to sink in after a while. Noticing the girl was still stuttering. The black haired girl began to get wrong thoughts. Maybe she was colder than she looked. It would be bad if she caught hypothermia or something of that sort. Of the she was over reacting, but the girl really didn’t know how to read people.
“Come.” She said grabbing the girl’s hand with her steal grip. She wasn't gripping it so hard that it hurt, but it’d be very difficult to get out of the grip. She wasn't trying to terrify the girl. She pulled her over to this large machine probably used to power the lights in the hanger or something of that sort. Due to its size, and use, heat seem to radiate from it. It was very warm and not dangerous to stand next to it. X-23 let go of the girls hand and turned back to face her. “You will get warmer here.” The black haired girl said motioning toward the machine. She hoped it would be helpful for the girl.

Reverie hadn’t expected this older teen to be as socially inept as herself, her eyes widening ever so slightly in surprise. What was even more surprising, was the fact that Laura didn’t’ seem to comprehend what Reverie had meant by ‘walking in’ on the guy and his girlfriend. Biting her lip, she refrained herself from fixing the mistake. No, don’t give away what she was…. People didn’t like knowing you were in their head. Best keep that to herself for as long as possible.
The longer she listened to the girl’s thoughts, the more…. Nervous she got. It was a good thing she was still shivering, or a real shiver might have been seen. It wasn’t that hard to come to the conclusion that this was a somewhat violent girl in front of her, based on what the X-men were trying to teach her. But at the same time, there was a contradicting thought of concern.
Okay, she had a right to be nervous. When Laura latched onto Reverie’s hand, she barely managed to stop herself from flinching in both shock and slight pain. She still wasn’t used to people grabbing her, if only because they disappeared in those moments. Perhaps she should work on controlling her power a bit more, if only because in desperate times she’d… sort of fallen in sync with the other person’s thoughts. She knew exactly what they were doing, and sometimes even before they did it. Obviously, this could come in handy. Anyway, the point was, she was surprised, and stumbled as she tried to tried not to be dragged to the generator.
”Y-ye donnae…. Ye donnae have t-t-ta do this… A-ah’ll… Ah’ll be f-f-fine…” She had to admit, the heat given off from the generator did help. Quite a bit. Soon her shivering ceased. ”…. Thank… ye…”

It relieved the black haired girl that Reverie had ceased in shivering. At least X-23 could safely assume the girl wasn’t cold any more. She listen to the girl speak noticing that it wasn’t only because she was cold, but that the girl actually spoke with a stutter normally. Plus the accent made it hard for most to understand. X-23 had been sent on over seas’ missions during her time at the facility and was use to foreign languages and accents. The black haired girl understood what Reverie was saying.
“It is alright. I-” She stopped for a moment trying to phrase the words right. “Wanted to help, whether you were fine or not.” The girl’s green eyes flickered toward the ground hesitant once more. “Unless you did not wish of my assistance, then I apologize for intervening.” X-23 was struggling now, going into he passive mode that took orders from people. The slight remnant of her old emotionless self. She was struggling with herself once again and the conflicting thoughts confused the girl.
She didn’t mean to leave Reverie hanging, but X-23 was now struggling with in herself. It happened once and a while when she tried to get outside her comfort zone and actually try and become friends with others. She usually didn’t speak this much to a person, still suffering from personality issues from when she was with the pimp Zebra Daddy. This had always an effect on the girl along the self-mutilating disorder she suffered from. Her green eyes shifted to her wrist, then thought of cutting herself tempting. Instead she grabbed her arm with her hand, a tight grip around the ligament. Laura was not going to cut herself in front of this girl, it would probably scare her even more. Little did she know this girl was a telepath.

[jusify] Wanted to help?
Reverie spent several moments, just listening to Laura’s thoughts. There wasn’t any contradiction. Laura meant what she said, well, as far as Reverie could tell. ”Ye d-donnae have ta a-apologize. Ah’m just…. No’ use…. T-ta people help’n m-me.”
Reverie could almost literally feel Laura’s mind shutting down, falling into a sort of… default. It was a little eerie to hear, and it definitely made her wary of the girl. Why? Well, Reverie relied on the reads she got on people to make her judgement on them. And she wasn’t exactly used to people taking a full 180 on her…
Her eyes widened as more thoughts came in, this time focused on self mutilation. That wasn’t what she expected. At all. She wasn’t wary anymore. She was down right terrified. Remembering this girl was different then herself, that she might catch onto this fear, she tried to swallow it down. The last thing she wanted was Laura to even consider Reverie might be zoning in on her thoughts. People didn’t like the intrusion that was known as mind reading. ”S-so… Yer…. Yer no’ a s-student, right? Y-yer an… X-men?” Must change the subject before anything happens.
