Rory paused for a moment, looking back at Freya after she kissed his cheek. A slight grin touched the corner of his lips, she really didn't want to stop, "Are ye really trying ta seduce me right now?" He asked with a raise brow and slight grin. They had just had the wildest few minutes of their relationship, but it seemed that wasn't enough for Freya. Once again, that was incredibly attractive... but now REALLY wasn't the time, why did this war have to happen now?
As Rory stepped out into the hallway, slowly turning around, memories began to flood his mind of what was inside this base. He could remember that it was massive, it went several miles underground, deep into the earth with thousands of soldiers between here and the bottom. Then it suddenly hit Rory... What were they going to do now that they were inside? The base needed to be destroyed but how? "We need ta find the general." Rory said calmly, finally voicing a plan, "He wears a suit like the rest of the ghosts, but it is red in color. If we kill him... That'll be a start." A start wasn't exactly the best plan, but it was better than nothing at the moment.
As Freya pointed down one of the halls Rory nodded, "Alright, let's go tha' way the-" Before he could finish a wall suddenly shot up, blocking the middle path and leaving only the long hall Freya and Rory were in. Suddenly another metal wall rose up, blocking the blackened hallway where they had come from. Wait a minute... That entrance must not have been going to the main base... They were in The Pit.
"Freya come t-" Before Rory could finish a wall suddenly exploded out of the ground, seperating the two. Rory didn't even bother trying to stop it, the wall was made of metal that was strong enough to withstand a nuke, and it was several feet thick. He doubted Freya could even sense his body heat anymore... The general knew Freya and Rory were here, they would have to play his games for now... With a sigh, he turned down the hall he was forced into, praying Freya would be ok...

Freya’s smirk was absolutely wicked when he mentioned seducing him. ”Believe me, if I was trying to seduce you, we wouldn’t be talking right now.” An eyebrow raised in a way that was both slightly seductive, and taunting. She loved how easy it was to seduce Rory. Right now though, she really wasn’t trying. Merely showing her affection for the man.
Freya lived for the thrills in life. And, when things settled down, she got irritable, and looked for the adrenaline rush. With Rory around, it was pretty easy to find one. Sadly, now wasn’t the time for that kind of adrenaline. Later though…. Later they could have their fun.
”General, huh?” She paused. That sounded familiar…. Wait… The Ghost who hadn’t died. ”That suit of his is not like the others.” It was stronger, most definitely. It could withstand most of her power, for crying out loud! And up until now, Ghost suits didn’t stand a chance against her full power. ”But considering he tried to kill me, I think it’s time we return the favor.” Sometimes, Freya got fixated on a target. This guy, the General, had escaped her wrath without a scratch. That pissed her off. And so, he had now become the target of her wrath.
Moving towards Rory, she didn’t expect a wall to basically appear out of nowhere, blocking the path, and then another blocking the exit. Turning to look at Rory, she opened her mouth to say something, right around the time he got cut off. Another wall came out of nowhere, separating the two. Instantly, it was like cold water had been dumped on her. She couldn’t feel Rory anymore. These weren’t just steel doors… Whatever they were made of… T hey were blocking her senses. Dammit…!
Taking a (calming) deep breath, she glanced down the hall that was her only option. Well, this was fantastic. Reluctantly, she started down it, glaring all the way.

With each step Rory took down the hall, it became more clear to him that this was definitely the Pit. The white metal walls, floor and ceiling almost made your eyes hurt. It was all so clean, surgically clean, one would think they were in a hospital. This was a training place for soldiers, Darkside wanted to make sure that every soldier he sent into combat was an absolute perfect killing machine. The commanders trained them in combat, the Pit made sure they were mentally prepared... With mentally prepared meaning completely brain washed by the time they came out the other side. Rory had been through this before, but Freya... Freya!
Rory ran down the hall, quickly turning the corner to see the back of Freya's head only a few feet down the hall. "Freya!" Rory called out, the red haired woman paused, and just as she turned around BANG!. A shot echoed down the hall, Rory had pulled the trigger, putting a bullet right between the red heads eyes. The hologram flickered for a moment then disappeared, "You'll have to try harder than tha'... This isn't me first party boy-o's!" Rory yelled down the hall, though no one answered back and no one could be seen... He knew they were listening...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On the other side of the Pit, where the true red head was wandering, the hallway was almost identical. A snowy what hall that went forward about two hundred feet, then turned, then forward two hundred feet, then turned, and continued like that with no apparent end in sight. It seemed to go on forever, but what bothered most was the unnerving silence. The only sound that could be heard were the steps of the womans shoes on the metal floor, at least for a few moments...
Suddenly another sound echoed down the corridors, the sound of another pair of footsteps. When Freya started walking, the sound started, if Freya stopped, the sound stopped. This went on for a few moments before suddenly, it sounded as though several people were walking behind Freya, then in front of her. The sound of the footsteps got louder and more frequent until it grew into a constant dull hum. It would get annoying at first... But painful after a few moments.
A few hundred yards above both Freya and Rory, in a dark room filled with moniters, a man sat; staring at the image of Freya on one computer screen, and Rory on another. "We have them locked in the pit sir." The agent said to a shadowy figure standing behind him. "I'll notify the Director..." The man said simply, before turning to leave the room.
Freya was annoyed. Very annoyed. At everything. The way everything looked the exact same was seriously frustrating her. To the point where she twitched every time she turned and realized the next hall was the same. And, after walking for a while, she heard footsteps.
At first, she came to a stop. Nothing…. Take a few steps and stop again… Take a few steps, stop. Basically? She repeated this process about a dozen times. Okay, now she was really irritated, the echo of other footsteps grating on her nerves. Twitching, she scowled. ”Dammit, come out you cowards!!!!” Turning she kicked the wall… Smart, I know. She seriously regretted it after, her foot throbbing. Yelling French curse words (That would turn any movie into R rated, purely for language), she sat down on the ground, arms crossed, legs crossed, and leaned against the wall. She was NOT playing this stupid game of theirs.
Really, the woman looked like she was perfectly contend just sitting there. At least… Until those footsteps started going again, this time coming from both directions and constant. She twitched. A few moments passed before she started swearing once again. It was amazing how she could come up with so many creative insults, none of which were repeats from earlier today, or other days.
Rory was moving quickly down the halls, even though there was only one way to go, he seemed persistent that he had to reach the end of the endless hall. Occasionally they would try to affect him with a hologram, or some sort of psychological torture, but he continued to blast his way down the hallway as if on a mission. Then again, when Rory looked like he was on a mission, then he was. Rory wasn't feigning fear or confusion, he knew exactly what needed to be done and he knew he had little time to do it.
Many many years ago, not long after the agency was formed, it recruited a man named Rory Ashe; not peacefully either. He was forced into the program, and forced to run the pit. Unfortunately, his will was far stronger than they ever expected, and he almost escaped from what should have been unescapable. They made him run the program almost four times before he finally broke under the strain on his mind, but not before he found something out, found the weakness to the pit. After all, he was an expert at finding weaknesses, and not just in people...
So that was where he was running, trying to find the "weakness" once more, trying to get the overseers to lead him to it. Rory knew that all of this wasn't real, the holograms weren't real, the sounds weren't real, the Pit itself... was not real. The faster he began to run down the halls, the more the overseers began to realize that he was after something. With safety their first concern (safety of themselves, not the occupants of the Pit), they began throwing everything they had at Rory trying to either break him or stop him. They had destroyed his island though, they had destroyed his home, there was no stopping him now. With Freya seperated and possibly hurt, he had one goal, kill everyone...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Sir... Come take a look at this." One of the programmers, the "eyes" as they were called because they were always monitering and changing the environment of the Pit, said slowly as he watched the red headed woman on the screen. A man in a massive black suit stepped toward the moniter. Bending over slightly, the overseer peered onto the screen.
"She's only been in for... Ten minutes and thirty-eight seconds and she's not even fighting the program anymore." The agent said, turning to face his commander. The pit was meant to break people, that was all it was for, but usually it took a slow process to break someone... They didn't usually just "give up", ESPECIALLY someone like this woman who was KNOWN to be violent and a fighter, not to mention an omega level mutant. They had expected at least... a little fight.
"She hasn't given up... She's still sane, or judging from the records we have of her, her definition of sane." The overseer said calmly, he was a master of torture, and of the intricacies of the mind. His only purpose here was to tell the programmers how to more easily break someone, "I believe she is trying to drown out the sound... She believes in control... Let's show her that neither of those things can be given to her here." The man said, and so his will was done.
The sound inside the pit went from a dull hum and gradually increased in decibels. In a matter of moments it sounded it was a high pitched ring, one that drowned all other sound out and would cause quite a bit of pain to anyone hearing it. It didn't stop there though, at the end of the hall, Rory calmly walked around the corner holding his ears as if they hurt by the sound, caught Freyas attention, and waved for her to come with him; walking back out of sight...

Freya’s creative cursing was good for two things. Venting, and drowning out that annoying hum in the background. Mostly, she did it because she felt better. Ranting always helped when she was in a poor mood, as everyone knew. But she was smarter then she acted…. Not that she was an idiot. The woman just wasn’t big on logic. And, anyone that knew her, would vote for this being venting before guessing she was actually being clever.
Twitching almost violently, she realized the sound was getting louder, overpowering her voice. It didn’t stop there though, it kept getting higher and higher. Yelping, she covered her ears as the sound actually started to hurt. That didn’t help her mood at all. Hands clamped over her ears she continued muttering curses, though it wasn’t like she could hear herself. Stupid noise…. She didn’t move though, those bastards wouldn’t get her on her feet that easily.
Suddenly, there was movement out of the corner of her eyes. Turning to look, she spotted… Rory? Motioning for her to follow. Considering this sound, he could be looking for a way to shut it up. Sighing, she got to her feet, hands still covering her ears as she half ran to catch up to Rory…

As Rory began to run down the halls, pulling the trigger at every hologram the came up and not even stopping when a shrill scream of a sound began to ring out, you'd think that nothing could stop him. He had to stop the program before it got anyworse, he knew how. The entire Pit was simply a computer system, a massive holographic maze controlled by the overseer who in turn was not human himself. The overseer was a mutant that could create minor illusions, and like everyone else in Darksides army, his powers were increased ten-fold by gadgets and machines.
In reality, the place that Freya and Rory were trapped in was nothing but a single massive room, made to feel like so much more with computers and illusions. There was a way out without being released though, computers could only handle so much processing before they began to freeze up; the human mind was the same way... That's why he couldn't stop, he had to keep running, he had to force them to try and stop them, force them to usse more than they were physically capable of...
The plan was working wonderfully until Rory turned a corner and immediately stopped in horror. In the hall in front of him, the walls, roof, and floor were all spattered in blood. On the floor Rory saw the source of the massacre, Freya... There she lay, dead on the floor in a pool of her own blood, her throat ripped out. It's not real, it's an illusion... It's not real... It's not real. Rory had to tell himself over and over, yet still he could not bring himself to get close to the body.
Breathing heavily, and forcing himself not to look, he began to walk forward a little more slowly. Every step he could hear the squishing of blood, making him cringe. Normally, carnage did nothing to Rory, but seeing Freya like this... Even if it was an illusion it made Rory want to throw up. Finally he passed the body and continued running down the hall, when he turned the corner, he saw Freya's body again... They found his weakness....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"She took the bait sir..."
"Good... Let's, have a little fun now..." The overseer said, glancing at the screens of Rory and Freya, a wicked grin coming over his face. This was the part he loved the most, playing with his little pets and seeing just how far he could push them.
Down in the pit on Freya's side, the sound wasn't stopping, it continued ringing out as painfully as ever and showed no intent of getting any quieter. In an evil twist, the sound was loud enough that it caused a severe amount of pain, but it was high-pitched and in just the right frequency that it would never make you lose your hearing even temporarily. So whoever was caught in the "sound box" as they called it, was forced to listen to the pain shrill ring until the overseer stopped it.
As Freya turned the corner, the first sight that would meet her eyes was Rory facing her. The only problem was, he wasn't just standing there. In his right hand he held a wickedly serrated dagger, and as soon as he saw Freya, he lunged out, slashing out at her throat with it. Immediately he followed up with a downward slash at her chest, continually charging forward and forcing Freya to back up or get killed. The look in his eyes seemed to show just how much he wanted to kill her. It was a common phrase that "love hurts"... but this was just ridiculous...
Even with her hands over her ears, it didn’t help. Her hands did absolutely nothing to block the sound, that high pitched ringing just as loud. Freya had given up, just dropping her hands to her side as she ran towards where Rory was, flinching as her ears were forced to endure the torturous sound. Hopefully Rory had a plan to stop it…
Or stop her.
Turning the corner, she was a little shocked to see him right there. And by right there, she meant only a foot away. ”What th-“ She cut herself off when she saw that dagger. By pure chance she took a step back at the right moment, narrowly avoiding getting her throat slashed and chest cut open. Something was wrong. This was not Rory..! Stumbling back even more, she struck back, only with her, lighting was her weapon, obliterating the hologram.
And still, that annoying ringing assaulted her poor ears. ”Bastards! Cowards! Is that the best you can do?!” A spew of insults, both French and English, followed. She was angry, flat out furious. They were using Rory against her. That, was a big no-no. The surrounding area was hot, like it always got when she was livid…
Perhaps the most interesting thing about the Pit, wasn't that they did torture you psychologically, but that no matter how much you cursed them and thought you could "handle it", eventually it would get to you. What would seem annoying at first would eventually wear you down. What seemed like it was obviously fake, would eventually make you question what was real and what was in your head. The intent of it all wasn't to make you instantly give up, it was to make you fight... and make you break yourself.
The lightning that hit the hologram was unexpected, but not completely unforseen. They had expected an attack, but not one like that. The fact that she could create lightning though was... interesting. As soon as the hologram disappeared, the light to the hallway shutoff, plunging Freya into total darkness. When she was done yelling, as soon as she said "do", the lights came back on and the hallway that she had been standing in was completely different in the direction that it went; there was also a wall behind her now so she had nowhere to go but forward. On top of it all the ringing was as loud as ever.
Whenever Freya would look down the hallway in the new direction it went, she'd see a person standing just in front of her again... Rory once more. Rory held out his hand, as if beckoning her to take it with a smile on his face. As he held out his hand though, he also raised a gun and pointed it at Freya's head, then pulled the trigger...
Freya was pissed. Simple as that. Even more so when the light went out. Her ‘sixth sense’ wasn’t much use when no one was around. All it did was tell her if people were near. In absolute darkness, alone… She was a blind as a bat. Not bothering to move, she twitched as the moments passed by, waiting for the lights to come back on.
When they did flicker back to life, everything was different. Dammit, she was really tired of being messed with. Deciding, once again, she wasn’t going to play their game, she sat down, back against the wall and glaring at the hallway they expected her to go down.
And there he was… Again. Beckoning. She didn’t move from her spot. No way was she falling for that a second time. This time though, he can a gun. Bullet melted as it left the barrel, flames destroyed the thing this time. All the while, Freya stuffed a finger in each ear to attempt to block out that ear splitting ringing. She had a headache, no, scratch that. Migraine. That horrible noise had given her a migraine. Seeing spots, she kept her gaze forward, keeping an eye out for more fake Rorys….
"Looks like she's actually stopped this time sir." The agent said as he punched a few things into the keyboard.
"It seems she has, alright, she's weak. Hit her hard now, let's see if we can't shatter that spirit by the time Darkside gets here." The overseer said with a sneer, glancing over at the screen that held Rory. Psychological torture was only effective if you showed the victim that they had no control over the environment, gave them complete hopelessness in other words. The overseer was going to prove that to both Rory and Freya now...
In Freya's side of the pit, things were getting worse. The sound wasn't stopping, in fact, it was so loud now it was almost as if you could feel it instead of hear it. On top of that every two or three minutes the light would shut of, then two or three minutes it would turn on and the hall Freya was sitting in would change everytime. It would be havoc on anyone's senses, but they didn't stop there.
Every time the lights would turn on, there would be a different horror for Freya. At first, it was just another Rory attacking her every time, but then occasionally it was far worse. Sometimes the light would turn on and show Rory dead, hanging from the ceiling and pressed against the floor, mutilated. When the light would shut off and come back on again, he'd be back attacking her. They were going to make her question her sanity. This went on for a very long time until the overseer decided he had something very special for her...
The light began turning on and off faster, like a strobe light at a rave party. Everytime it turned on, it showed Rory dead in a new and horrific position, some were so disturbing that even the agents watching were a little disturbed by it. Suddenly, the light turned back on and stayed on, though the sound didn't quite, and at the end of the hall Rory walked around the corner. This Rory was holding a rifle, already raised and ready to fire, when he saw Freya at the end of the hall sitting down and plugging her ears; he turned the gun on her. Now the real fun began...
Freya seemed to think, that by stopping, they would just give up and leave her be. It was a pretty crazy idea, obviously, but, a part of her still hoped. Quite the opposite happened though. Things got even worse. Plugging her ears wasn’t helping, at all, now that the sound shook her whole body. The lights kept going on and off, her surroundings changing every time they came back on. It was driving her absolutely nuts…. And it wasn’t an understatement. Her migraine got worse, and she really was at the point where she couldn’t tell what was real. The only thing she could do, was lash out at everything, and hope it wasn’t the real Rory.
That is… Until they decided to play a dirty trick on her. Rory… Dead. In the most disturbing ways possible. She wasn’t necessarily ‘used’ to Rory dying, but the woman had learned to deal with it. But all his deaths so far… He’d looked like he was just sleeping. The horrifying images burned in into her memory. And no matter how badly she wanted to…. She couldn’t look away. It wasn’t until the image vanished that she could breath again, even if it was pitch black. Still, she could see the image clear as day….
And the lights were back on. Freya fully expected the horrifying image to still be there. Thank god it wasn’t… But instead, there was another Rory, coming to attack her. Still shaken, her response was slower than before as an inferno engulfed the copy.
More time passed, and Freya was forced to endure the sight of several dead Rory’s. She couldn’t look away when she saw them, and she couldn’t just close her eyes and wish it away, because before she knew it, another would attack her. They were right to think this would make her start to crack.
And it only got worse from there… Each image lasted only a second, the light flickering off for half of one, a new image, off again, new image, off again…. Each image was worse than the next. And, even for having such a strong stomach, They had reached a point were not only was she near tears, but she was, quite literally, green with nausea. Her whole body shook as she kept her ears plugged, eyes wide and watery, unable to even close them. Somehow though, towards the end of the mental torture, she managed to squeeze them shut, bringing her knees up to bury her face, so she wouldn’t be tempted to look again. It was a pretty pathetic sight.
A small part of her tried to get her to look, convince her they would attack her again if she didn’t look. Freya wouldn’t though. She didn’t care, as long as she didn’t see any more bodies…
There's somewhat of a common saying among the soldiers of the agency that, if you survive the Pit, death holds no fear over you. It mind sound strange to someone outside the agency, but anyone who has had to endure five minutes of the Pit will soon understand. After having your worse fears realized over, and over, and over, and over, on top of sensory deprivation and torture, disorientation, and a loss of reality; death truly seemed like a friend by the end of it all. Death was something to be sought after, not feared, and the agency knew that was what the Pit did. Which was one of the many other purposes of it. Any soldier that spent a few days in there had no fear in taking on the world.
Though, for someone that was not invited or ordered into the asylum that was the Pit, things were a little different. Instead of a training ground it became a prison, not a physical one, but a mental one. Trapping you inside your own little personal hell until they decided what to do with you. People had actually attempted suicide inside the room, unable to take what they were seeing anymore but as an even crueler joke, there was nothing they could use or do to kill themselves. Once you were inside, you stayed inside until the overseer was satisfied.
Freya, unfortunately, fell into the latter of the two categories of Pit residents. They were not training her and were likely going to kill her anyways, so they had no reason to hold back on anything...
"She's given up, her mind is sane but her soul is broken... I can feel it." The overseer said quietly, almost to himself as he stared at the screen. "It's not Darksides orders, but I have something special in mind... Prepare the cerebral recalibration process, let's see if we can't make her fight for us." As he spoke, the soldiers began typing on the computer, preparing a program to brainwash the red.
Suddenly something caught the overseers eye, "I thought I said no more holograms... What's that?" The overseer said, pointing to a figure at the end of the hall from Freya. They weren't running anymore holograms, and he wasn't creating any illusions so that meant...
At the end of the hall from Freya, another Rory continued to approach her, his rifle pointed at her head, waiting for her to look up. This Freya looked incredibly sad, curled up into the tiniest ball she could make herself into. Though, you could never trust whether anything in here was real or not... The Rory's mouth moved, but no words came out, trying to get her attention. The blaring screech that rattled your very bones was so loud that nothing could be heard. Slowly, the Rory reached out and shoved Freya on the leg with his feet, keeping his gun pointed at her. He pushed her hard enough that it would definitely catch her attention but not hurt her, not yet anyways...
How long had it been… Minutes? Hours? A whole day? Time didn’t exist in here. She was trying to use counting to distract herself, to at least regain some control in what was happening, but that ear shattering noise felt like it was trying to turn her very bones to dust , making something as simple as counting impossible. One question though… How long did they intend to keep this up..?
Freya refused to move, refused to look, basically refused to do anything. She was trying to erase the gruesome images from her head. She couldn’t though. Even with her eyes closed she could see them clear as day. All of them. It only made her shake more violently. In any other situation, Freya would have gotten violent for the mental torture she was being forced to endure. This behavior was… odd for her. Freya didn’t give up, ever. This was a first…
She didn’t see Rory approaching her, or hear him. Obviously. How could she? She did, on the other hand, feel some nudge her. She might have lost her fighting spirit, but instinct took over. Not opening her eyes, in case the Agency decided to mess with her head again, she kicked out with both feet, aiming for where she assumed were this person’s legs.
