”Yup.” Amber should have realized it would pique his interest. Sadly, the girl hadn’t even considered it happening. So her whole “haha, I can’t tell you!” act had totally back fired. Uh oh. When he spoke again, this time saying it sounded like she wanted to tell him, she opened her mouth to start. She was just about to when…. Self control returned. Clamping her mouth shut, she shook her head. ”Nope. Sorry, can’t tell you. Not suppose to tell non members.” As sad as it was, if he pushed it just a little more, she’d probably be unable to stop herself.
”Uuh. Sort of…. As in I go to school here. At Xavier’s, just down the road.” She shrugged. ”It’s a prep school.” It wouldn’t be hard to guess that his prep school was also a boarding school. She might not have said it, but her voice made it clear. Her parents had dumped her and her brother off at the school because of their special… Needs, not too long ago. And now they only got to see their parents on holidays. Exciting… It wasn’t that Amber didn’t like Xavier’s. She loved it at the school. It just kind of sucked sometimes.
Amber was taking another step closer (For reasons she didn’t know), when the pinecone came out of nowhere and hit him. She started to laugh. People got hit by pinecones a lot around here, but this one hadn’t come from a pine tree! It was hilarious. Odds meant nothing if she was around. After a few moments, she managed to reign the laughter under control, grinning widely. ”Nah. I think you’re the odd one. Your seriously bad luck right now.” A stray baseball came out of nowhere, and just about nailed her in the face, the girl barely managing to reach up in time to catch it. ”I think it’s rubbing off on me to.” She looked at him, still grinning with an eyebrow raised. ”Man, what did you do to totally piss off Karma?” Poor guy, she knew what the cause was. Like hell she’d tell him though. It was more fun making people think it was them.
