The night was pitch black, a cool breeze ruffled through James' hair. As he glanced up at the night sky, he expected to see a brilliant canopy of celestial lights glimmering down at him. When his eyes met the sky though, there was absolutely nothing but darkness. All of the stars had been seemingly swallowed into a dark abyss. That should've been expected though. After all, he wasn't out on the range anymore. There were no gorgeous nights here, the lights of the city blocked out any hope for that.
Loud music suddenly filled the air as he got closer to a somewhat inconspicuous building. A small smirk spread across his lips as he approached the door. Sure, the nights may not be as pretty out here, but they were a hell of a lot more fun. A burly man at the door looked over James as he approached the club, raising a brow ever so slightly at his appearance. James was wearing some dark blue jeans, a black button-down shirt, and a very nice black felt hat... What... Had the idiot never seen a cowboy before? Seems most people gave him that strange look in this city...
Either way, the man stared at him with a funny look but didn't say anything as James stepped inside. As soon as the door opened, he was blasted with some loud music with a heavy beat. Most of the front room was full of people dancing and a few bouncers stood at the door to the back of the club, most likely keeping teens out of there. A bar was over in the back corner, the middle of the room was a large dance floor and surrounding it all was a walk way with some chairs and tables.
Casually he made his way to a table at the farthest corner of the room, tucked away behind a small wall. While it was still in direct sight of the door into the club, it was far enough away that it was a bit quieter, and covered enough that it was fairly private. As he sat down, he took the chair facing the door and began to watch it calmly, glancing around at the party-goers every so often.
So, why the fancy get up? Why go to a club alone and take a table with only two chairs in a private corner? Well, it was obvious wasn't it? This was a date! Not just any date either, but a date with the one and only Rose. After a danger room session a few days ago, James asked her out on a date, alone... Just the two of them, and made it very clear when he did that he wasn't asking her out as a friend, but asking her out on an actual date... As in, a date between two people that were attracted to one another. Was it a bad idea? Most likely. Would she even show up? Probably not... Was it worth it? Well, she definitely seemed like it so far... After all, the harder it is to catch the prey, the more fun it is to hunt them.

Rose wasn’t the dating type. Ever. Sure, she’d been on her fair share of dates. Not because she fancied the guy, mostly for fun. After coming back to Xavier’s, as an X-man though… The woman had mellowed out a bit. Since joining the team, she hadn’t been on a single date. It just hadn’t held her interest anymore. Surrounded by hormonal teens kind of made you swear off romance. So, when James practically cornered her after a Danger room session to ask her out? She was more than a little tempted to say no. If he hadn’t been so serious, she most definitely would have said no. Actually, she should have said no even though he was serious! She was a teacher for crying out loud! Sure she was only a year or two older than him…. Reason seemed to be thrown out the window though, when she thought about the potential harassment she could put him through. It wasn’t exactly a secret that Rose took way to much pleasure in tormenting James…
So, probably shocking both of them, she agreed.
It was only after agreeing that she started to realize what she’d gotten herself into. A date. With James. Well…. This was bound to be… Interesting. She was tempted to stand him up, obviously, mostly for his reaction, but a small part of her said she should at least give the guy one date before deciding what to do with him. So, disgruntled, she got ready for this ‘date’. Her first dilemma, because she was a girl, was just what to wear. If you saw her wardroom, you’d seriously understand too. She had multiple outfits for any occasion you could think of. Alone, she had well over a dozen ensembles that were date appropriate. Finally though, she decided, picking out a brilliant red dress that hugged her curves but flared out at the waist and ended above her knees. Tall, black boots and a gorgeous black leather jacket only added to the affect. Basically? Over all, she had an air about her that just said you could look, but would probably die if you touched.
Outside the club, Rose once again felt the urge to stand him up. But after going through the hassle of getting ready, it was much weaker than before. So, with a shake of her head, she straightened her posture, and waltzed right in. With her usual grace and poise, her gaze quickly scanned the crowd, never missing a beat. Spotting her ‘date’, her expression didn’t give anything away as she moved closer. The crowd seemed to have little effect on her, the woman easily and gracefully avoiding all the other club goers, until she finally stood by the table he picked out, slowly lowering herself into the chair opposite him.

The loud hypnotic beat slowly began to get to James as he sat at the table. Continually pulsating over and over and over and over, they would put on a new song but it was the same exact beat. Yet despite this, the dance floor remained packed. Teenagers, young adults, all of them constantly danced, writhing to the music like a mass of flesh... Honestly it reminded him of cattle, all bunched up like a herd afraid to move away from one another. One thing was for sure, none of them knew how to dance, and none of them had taste in music at ALL...
In fact, the DJ didn't have any taste in music. It was horrible! How long was he going to have to put up with this crap before Rose got here? Seriously! How long had he been waiting?! Pulling a watch out of his pocket he saw that he had been waiting over... Fourty-five seconds, and technically if she showed up now she would be a couple minutes early... Damn, maybe a club was a bad idea. James loved to party and socialize but there weren't really places like this back in Texa-...
Just as he was about to get really annoyed with the beat of them music, he saw a woman coming through the crowd toward his table. SThe woman was wearing a red dress that could only be described with one word; Sultry. She stood out in the crowd like a beacon and with the way her dress hugged every curve, and it really hugged EVERY curve, James completely froze for a moment; watch still in hand as he stared at this gorgeous specimen of the female race. Suddenly it hit him like a brick, that WAS Rose. Yet, she didn't look anything like the teacher he had been training under the last few days. Maybe he was mistaken? After all, Rose was attractive and all, but the woman approaching his table was a true knock-out.
When she sat down, James finally snapped out of it, it really WAS Rose. Wow, she really cleaned up good, shaking his head over so slightly a very charming smile touched his lips as the fox... er... Rose sat down at the table. Though, nothing seemed to show that he had been so struck by her, in fact, he was as calm as ever, "Perfect timing, it's exactly ten o' clock, down to the second." James said, a little amazed at the truth of that statement as he slid the watch back into his pocket. It was rare for a woman to be on time, and almost freaky to be so perfectly on time.
"I have to say, you look absolutely stunning Rose." For once, he wasn't just flirting to flirt, he was being honest, she looked good... Good enough that they annoying music was completely forgotten, "Seems the name 'Rose' fits you more perfectly than I could've imagined... Gorgeous, soft... and some really sharp barbs if you get to close." He said with a slight wink, teasing at the fact of how she treated him every day in the danger room.
"Though I gotta be honest... Didn't think you'd actually come." The tone of his voice seemed to say "but I'm really glad you did".

If Rose had known that her outfit choice literally left him gawking…. It would have only made her even more arrogant and smug. But, you know, that was exactly what she was going for here. It wasn’t often that Rose put this much effort into her appearance. Sure, the first time they’d met she had, but she’d been much more conservative then. This time, nothing was stopping her from dressing however she wanted. Poor James, he was probably just getting used to her insulting t-shirts and blue jeans. It wasn’t fair of her to throw him this kind of curveball.
James was good at hiding his awe, quickly masking it before Rose could relish her accomplishment of stunning him. Curses. Now she didn’t even know if he had been stunned! Not fair. Pushing past it though, she smirked a little as he spoke up, finally breaking the silence. ”I’m never late. For anything.” If only he knew just how true that was. Usually, she tried to be early, but she was never, NEVER late. Even to something she didn’t want to go to.
Rose had to admit, James cleaned up pretty nice. When he wasn’t pulling off daredevil stunts. It only reminded her just how much of a looker he was. When he put some effort into his appearance. Which wasn’t often. Well, she’d at least remember that there was an actual gentleman in there the next time he got on her nerves.
Unable to help it, an eyebrow raised when he complimented her. She didn’t hear his usual hint of flirtation there…. ”That was the intention. I’m so glad you caught on so quickly.” She was both teasing and taunting him there. He’d learned firsthand just how ‘sharp’ her barbs could be.
”I didn’t think I would either, if we are being honest. Consider yourself lucky.” That smirk turned into a shadow of a smile, as if telling him that he really was lucky she’d come, and, confirming that standing him up had, indeed, crossed her mind. ”We’ll see if I made the right choice by the end of tonight.”
