In the Mutant world, there are several names that everyone will recognize. And those, are the Ancient Families. Some, are bigger than others. Some, you probably haven’t even heard of. And a few? Only a handful of people know about. The world of the Ancient families is a complicated one, and this guide is here specifically to help you understand. This guide will include everything your character would know about the family if they aren’t related to the them, if they are, and what you as a writer should know about them when you are considering making one. Basically, I am writing this guide to make sure everyone is on the right page, especially when playing one.

Nightshade
Nationality: British Head: Arwin Nightshade Heir: Parker Nightshade Scribe: Yukon Nightshade Heir: Rose (North) Nightshade
The Nightshade family is the second oldest family still alive. To be honest, they are called the Brutes of the Ancient Families. They are the most violent, and power hungry of the families, with a very strict family structure. Basically? Their relationship with each other never left the Dark Ages.
Really, they are set up like a Monarchy, age is more important than anything. Superiority, is more important than anything. They are ruled by one, powerful figure, with an heir that is groomed from birth to become head when their predecessor passes. In the case of the heir dying, their next younger sibling will take their place. If they don’t have any younger siblings, a Council, consisting of every Nightshade over 18, will be held, and a vote will be cast.
The second most important member of the family is one most don’t even know exist. The Scribe, is, basically, a historian. Their life revolves around knowledge, from the moment they are born, to the moment they die. They know their family’s secrets, and other families. They know more about the Ancient families than anyone else alive (Except for a few, very, VERY old mutants with connections…). Their identity is also kept secret, from everyone but their mentor, the head, and the heir, for their own protection. Because, quite a few people would LOVE to kill the Scribe, purely because they know too much.
Birth order is very important to the Nightshades. Respect your seniors, even if it’s only by a few months. And if they don’t receive the respect? You aren’t even worth their time. Even their own family can be deemed worthless to them if the person acts disrespectful. It’s a little harsh, yes, but that’s how they act. It’s become the stereotypical Nightshade personality.
Sadly, the family has… Well, some really bad traits that keep getting carried on. Specifically, most of them struggle with sanity, to some extent. Some are better at controlling it then others, some let it rule their lives. But they all suffer from it at some point in their lives. The best thing to do, is learn how to cope.
And, because I'm sure it will come up. Why do two of the three adults have Japanese names? Because, they were, obviously, born in Japan. Not Asian, but there was a time when the family lived their.

Ellwood
Nationality: British Head: Robert Ellwood Heir: Jared Ellwood
The Ellwoods are a bit... Well, they are good with money. Especially making it. They own the largest Airline company in the world, so, they are more then well off. And, when they aren't making money, they are powerful mutants, and have come to be called the Opportunists of the Ancient Families. Their allegiances last as long as they believe that side will win. Basically, they are a bit infamous for switching sides when the tides turn.
While the family is on the small side, they make up for it in raw power. They're known for having immensely powerful young, but sadly this has it's downsides. It's common for them to have little control of their power when they haven't been properly trained, and, sadly, the adults are so money hungry, they can be a bit forgetful sometimes... Which usually means they don't spend much time at home, instead being forced to attend boarding schools... So, obviously, their family ties aren't quite as strong as other families.

Elensar-Milena
Nationality: French and American
These families have, obviously, become one over the years. And, even though they don't always share one name, they are still family. Out of all the Ancient families they are probably the most.... Well normal! They aren't 'ruled' in anyway. They don't have much care for bloodlines. And they certainly aren't concerned about wealth or fame. Amazingly though, they have had (and still do have) some of the most famous mutants in history in their ranks.
Almost all of them are American, the only ones not being Freya and Tari, because of their French mother, making them the most carefree of the families.
While they rarely worry about money, or power, they are very passionate and loyal people. When they find something to believe in, nothing will sway them. This makes them formidable allies... And terrifying adversaries. If you can help it, don't make enemies out of these people, their family ties go beyond blood. They will defend each other till death, even if they have never met said family member.

Fury-See This Thread for more information about the actual family tree- Nationality: Family on the tree -British and Irish. Distant cousins can be from any European country. The Furies. Probably the largest 'Ancient Family' in existence, if only because they are infamous for having far to many children.... And still considering you a member of the family no matter how thin the blood relation is! While none of the other families really consider the Furies to be an 'Ancient Family', they still very much so are. In fact, they are, with out a doubt, the oldest in existence. They were among some of the first mutants to exist.
Now, the Furies and other Ancient Families have never seen eye to eye... Probably because the Furies are, in fact, Irish Travelers, or, as most of us like to call them, Gypsies. And, sadly, Gypsies have been discriminated against for centuries, human and mutant. Basically, the Families and the Furies have a lot of bad blood between them. Best not to let them in the same room as each other with out supervision. Heavily armed supervision.
Almost all of the Furies are, indeed, mutants, and, they put these skills to use in the family Circus! Most Furies grow up in the troupe, so it's typical for them to have a wide variety of skills that would be out of place in the real world.
