Alex shrugged. He meant thoughts as far as those which influence how one acts and thus one's emotions. The same thing, in a roundabout way. Of course, she'd know more than anyone. And if she'd been here, a Mutant's heaven, for five years... She must be strong. With this much practice (as Freya implied that Mutants practiced here, even beyond learning how to control their powers), Gisli must be a master. Then again, there were adult mutants, such as Freya herself as well as Cain, presumably. Alex supposed it was a matter of how they discovered their power, in the end. "Turns... back on you? How so?"
He nodded in agreement. "No, I understand. Then again, I was human as far as they were concerned. Of course, now I'm a dirty, low-life mutant who deserves nothing but the worst. I guess, in time, they'll get their's, eh?" He smiled. He had a strong belief in Karma, and he was sure that the bullies would get bullied back in due time. However, maybe discovering his powers was a good thing. Maybe they'd get rewarded in due time. Then again, they'd done worse to others. Maybe they'd be screwed over slightly less if the discovery was a good thing.

"Powers.... Don't always listen that well. Sometimes, it just won't respond. Other times it'll do something without you wanting to.... And if you have a power that affects other people.... It can sometimes hurt you instead..." It wasn't unheard of for students to be hurt by their own power, it was actually common when you were first learning to control your power. "Not all powers are user friendly..." In rare cases, there were powers that always hurt the user, powers that were dangerous to both others and themselves.
The whole while, Gilsi struggled to keep her gaze off the floor, forcing herself to look at him as she spoke. Finally a sad smile touched her lips. "I can't control my powers, at least not all the time. The only way for me to learn control is to use it on others, but knowing what it feels like.... I'd rather be useless then know my control came from harming others." Gisli was a pacifist, through and through. She didn't even squash bugs if she could help it! Even considering using her power on innocent people just so she could learn how to control her powers sickened her! But... With out control she knew she could accidentally hurt someone.
"...... You should be careful saying things like that." Her smile was a little more cheerful now. "A lot of mutants think humans are the dirty low-life. But after all the persecution we've gone through, I can't really blame their way of thinking." Gisli shrugged then. "You know, if you really want those bullies to pay for what they did I'm pretty sure you could find someone willing to do it around here." She spoke so casually, as if violence that become a part of day to day life around here...

Alex nodded. If not with understanding, then it was with sympathy. He developed a theory in mind from this, but it wasn't the most pleasant. He had to wait until learning more about 'mutancy' before voicing his disturbing thought. "That must... suck. That sorta think you'd have to control, right?" he said. The answer was obvious, but no one could blame him for making conversation.
He was rather glad that she looked him in the eye... It was sort of unnerving to talk to someone who wouldn't. It was a telltale sign of lying, most cases. However, in Alex's case. He avoided eye contact when he was uncomfortable- generally, when talking to a girl he liked. This wasn't exactly a true crush... yet. Not because he didn't like her, but because he didn't know her. He wasn't one to obsess with complete strangers.
"That...sounds unfortunate. Maybe you should try it on one of Cain's guys... Cain has guys, right?" He wanted to be up-to-date about this, but he still didn't know much. He'd have to ask about that later...
"Mutants think humans are bad? That's... ironic, really. I mean, considering our- I mean, human feelings toward them- er, us." Despite his prior feelings, he still felt awkward thinking of himself as non-human. He raised an eyebrow. "Oh? It sounds tempting, but I'm good, really. I'm not one to hold grudges."

It was hard, forcing herself to keep eye contact. And the longer she held it, the more uncomfortable she felt. The girl wasn't one to maintain eye contact for long periods, it always terrified her, no matter who the person was. It didn't matter if she knew the person well, or if they were complete strangers. Some people just knew how you were feeling from the look in your eyes, and Gisli hated that. She didn't want people knowing her emotions.
Cain
Gisli flinched at hearing the name. Cain was feared, especially by people who knew they stood no chance against him. ".... Cain does most of his dirty work himself... And he isn't someone you mess with. Even Miss Elensar is wary of him..." She paused for a moment. "The attack on Paris last November.... I think Miss Elensar was the one that protected the city from Cain. But.... If you saw the pictures of the scene...." Gisli was visibly pale. "It was... gruesome. No one could have been able to survive that." There had been blood, lots of blood. Who could survive that much blood lose? "He's the reason Professor Xavier is hurt...."
Gisli was happy for the change of subject from Cain to mutant discrimination. Sure, it wasn't that happy a subject, but it wasn't nearly as terrifying. "There's bad blood between us and humans. A lot of parents try to kill their mutant children when they find out what they are." A small pause. "As you can imagine, a lot of us grow up fearing and hating humans, because we're treated like vermin that need to be exterminated..." Gisli wasn't one of them, but that didn't mean she had a love for Humans either. She feared them just as much as most, because she knew that if they ever found out what she was.... Most humans would try to kill her.

It was obvious that mention of Cain bothered Gisli. He regretted having brought it up, but he had to learn somehow. If only it were someone he didn't know... or didn't like. "Really? She told me that she defended against him. Of course, that was before I knew she was a mutant. I mean, she acted as though she weren't herself. I mean, not Freya Elensar. Well, you get the point."
Instantly digressing, he got back on topic. "I never saw anything about it. To be honest, I really don't know much of anything about Cain's activities. I don't watch the news, either, so maybe that's it. "Er... Who's Professor Xavier?" He assumed that it was a teacher, but he had no clue beyond that.
He nodded. "To be honest, I'm kinda happy that my parents didn't try to kill me. Of course, they threatened to--" He stopped, emotions welling up in his throat. He felt the need to cry, with tears starting to flow, but he swallowed the emotions and blinked the tears away. If it had to happen, it wouldn't happen here. In front of this girl. Especially when first meeting her. It wasn't good for reputation, to be honest.

Gisli had never had a run'in with the psychopath, and she planned on keeping it that way. She'd heard the horror stories, she'd seen the affects he had on people, she'd seen the news.... And from what she'd seen? It scared her witless. Someone like her wouldn't stand a chance against him. He wouldn't kill her either. Cain rarely seemed to kill other mutants.... He took them captive, doing who knew what to them... "She said that? I guess she's willing to admit it now then... When she comes back, take a good look, you might be surprised." Specifically, Gisli meant the scars. Most, you wouldn't see, but two always stood out unless she wore long sleeve shirts, matching scars on her wrists.
"Yeeeaaah.... You can't mention Elensar around here with out getting a reaction." Gisli seemed to have relaxed from her flinch. "Basically, big names like them draw a lot of attention. Most people don't even know Freya's in the country, if they did it'd cause an all out war. You'd have mutant haters busting down the doors."
His question took her by complete surprise. "Professor Xavier is the headmaster...." How could he not know who Xavier was? Obviously Freya hadn't gone into to much detail... "He's a telepath, able to read people thoughts. But if he wants he can control other people as well. He doesn't do it often, most of us haven't seen him do it." By most, she meant nearly everyone at the school. Professor Xavier only used the power if everything else failed.
Her only reaction to his emotional moment was sympathy. She didn't move to try to comfort him though. The girl was to reserved, to shy for that. Instead, she shifted her weight from foot to foot, slightly unnerved by the situation. "I'm sorry...."

Alex blinked in surprise. Look closer? ...What was that supposed to mean? The way she said it implied that she meant physically. She couldn't have meant clothes. Then it must've been her body. Not that Alex didn't look, per sé, just certain parts in particular. But it must've been a defect or scar. And scars made sense, as Freya was a fighter... Was she hurt? He shook his head; he'd find out later
He nodded. "From what I understand, Freya's quite the celebrity, for both mutants and humans. I wouldn't want to admit that I know her in a club full of drunk people for sure. And if anyone knew any mutants were here at all, I have a feeling that we'd have a lot of fighting back to do." He chuckled.
Alex turned away, ashamed to have been noticeable about his slip-up. He was embarrassed, really. Deeply embarrassed. "No, I'm sorry. I feel like a kid... I'm just not entirely comfortable with the sudden changes in my life... God, I'm so embarrassed..." He almost fainted then and there... He nearly cried in front of a girl... and was slowly getting closer. He wanted to slap himself to snap out of it.

Celebrity?
Gisli actually giggled, the concept that crazy. The moment she realized she'd made the sound, though, she instantly covered her mouth, forcing herself to be silent. Why? Well to her it felt like she was laughing at him... "Sorry....." She only spoke when she had the giggles under control. "Freya isn't really a.... celebrity. More like a political figure, even if she hates politics. Her mother was big on mutant rights, so she and Tari kind of got thrown into the spotlight after she died...." He wasn't that far off about not wanting to admit knowing Freya. A lot of people believed that if they took out the big named mutants, they wouldn't have to worry about mutants rebelling...
With apology threw her off. Gisli just stared at him, half stunned, unable to believe what she'd heard. "W-well....." What was she supposed to say? She felt like a deer in headlights! Probably looked like it to... Quickly she tried to come up with an alternative topic. "Are you hungry? Freya will be back sooner or later.... No point waiting here in the hall..." Not to mention they might get run over by students rushing about! They were right by the main staircase after all....

Alex smiled and chuckled. It was actually funny. "Don't be," he said with a smile. "Celebrity was sorta the best word I could think of. But basically, you're saying that she's a tad bit... infamous, I suppose?" He suggested. After she said the last bit, he raised his eyebrows once more in surprise. "Really? I didn't realize it was so intense. Well, I sorta knew, but I never thought about it..." he trailed off.
While Gisli looked somewhat like a deer in headlights, Alex ignored it. She changed the topic, something which was welcome. "I'm a bit hungry, actually. I had a cup of caramel hot chocolate before midnight, I think, but nothing since. And nothing since noon before it, at lunch. So I should probably be starving."
In truth, he wasn't really hungry. He was feeding off of air, really, which seemed to be enough, at least for now. But he knew he should eat. He went without eating for a while when his sorta-girlfriend moved away- it was only 'sorta' because they weren't technically dating; they liked each other, but he was too nervous to ask her out. Anyway, he was slightly depressed from that and din't eat for a few days and got sick. So he knew it was a bad idea.

Gisli instantly nodded to his 'somewhat' question. "Yeah. More then a tad, though." He'd learn soon enough.... He just had to wait for something to happen. Then he'd understand why Freya was 'The Dragon Lady'.
Hearing his proclamation of hunger, she smiled, that traumatized look of hers finally vanishing. "Well, someone fixed some pancakes earlier, if you want some of them. It'd be pretty bad if you got sick your first day! All that'd do is put a target on your back." She wasn't kidding either. Some students would think he'd done it intentionally for attention, as stupid as that sounded, and not all the students around here were.... well you just had to keep an eye open. She headed for the kitchen, though went slow so they could still talk a little as they walked.
"So? Did she warn you? About the school that is.." She paused for a few moments. "Well.. I guess she kind of did, seeing as you know it's for Mutants... I mean everything else... Like the Danger room, the X-men.... Some of the bullies." Suddenly she stopped, deep in thought. "I don't think you'll have to worry about the bullies. I'll tell Shakaku not to." Okay, she wasn't making much sense anymore, her train of thought wandering. For being shy, she was a daydreamer, often just following her trail of thoughts to who knew what, and didn't seem to notice if people followed or not. What she meant was that she'd basically make sure Shakaku didn't try to make a victim out of him...

Alex smiled. Now she looked like a normal teenager. Well, for the most part, aside from being a mutant. He nodded and said, "Pancakes are great." He put his hands in his pockets, walking by her side and looking around. "Makes sense," he said. "Considering the fact that I have nowhere else to go in the world, I figure that I want to make the best of this place. I mean, having everyone you live with hate you must suck," he said.
He shrugged. "I've never had to deal with bullies, much. I'm more of the kind of person who stays to his own devices, so to speak." Then again, he'd never dealt with the guy who seems to insist on being top dog. "I've heard of the X-Men, but I never knew anything about them. And I have no clue what a Danger Room is. I think Freya mentioned it once," he said. "I'm not sure I consciously caught it, so I didn't ask," he told her.
He saw that the X-Mansion was very interesting. He'd never even been to a private school before, so the whole thing was new to him. He quickly realized that it was more than just a school. It was like a big family. There was no employees, no payroll. Just life.

Gisli just kept smiling that small smile of hers as they reached the kitchen. It looked just like a large household kitchen, with large glass doors set on one wall, opening up into a dining hall. The doors were open, and inside three or four other students were scattered, sitting at those formal oak table. Back in the kitchen portion, the island was filled with covered trays. Under one was the pancakes, another had bacon and sausage, yet another with hashbrowns... Next to them were a gallon of milk and orange juice. There was obviously enough to feed the residents of the Mansion.
With out any hesitation, Gisli retrieved a plate from up in the cabinets for him, holding it out for her 'somewhat' new friend to take. Apparently no one had thought about getting any down when preparing breakfast. "Well, some students are just optimistic. They think it's their right to practice on others if they get the chance." She shrugged then, not all that concerned. When you were... close to one of those people, few tended to mess with you, so Gisli hadn't had to worry much about bullies in quite some time.
"The X-men are basically former students, or other mutants, that have decided to stay to teach the rest of us. They aren't just teachers though. They try to settle a lot of mutant related problems to make life easier for all of us. Professor Xavier believes mutants and humans can co-exist peacefully and he's out to prove it." She paused for a few moments, trying to think of how to explain the Danger Room. "The Danger Room... It's basically for training. One of the X-men will hold a session with a handful of students, and depending on your level it could just be used to help teach you to use your power away from other students. When you get better it's used to prepare you for any situation. The whole room is rigged with weapons and holograms... It's pretty crazy. But, it's the safest way to teach us what's out in the world with out actually being out there."

Alex took the plate and smiled. He went to work on retrieving food. Normally, he wasn't a big eater, but he hadn't eaten for a good while and she knew that. So, he took a generous number of pancakes in a neat stack, a pile of sausages, and an unhealthy amount of bacon. He also took a few hashbrowns. After setting his plate down, he got himself a glass of orange juice.
"I see," Alex said. He hoped that Gisli would introduce him at some point to this 'Shakaku,' so that he would be in the same boat as her... at least, in a sense. "Maybe you should introduce me to Shakaku sometime. I think Freya mentioned him," he suggested. Or not; it didn't really matter.
"Okay, so the X-Men help people and take on bad guys. And the Danger Room is an ultra-high-tech training ground. If your power hurts others, maybe you should use that to learn how to use it properly?" he suggested. Made sense to him. To the last part, he added: "Well, the best way to learn how to do something right is to do it, right?"
He motioned to his plate. "I don't want to be rude, but I'm quite hungry, so do you mind?" he asked, referring to eating the food while she was present.

Seeing as Gisli had already eaten, she didn't get anything for herself except another glass of milk. There was a comfortable silence between them as he gathered up his own food. When he spoke again, she shrugged softly... Before actually realizing what he had said. Finally understanding, she blinked, then scoffed a little as she held back her laughter. "Miss Elensar is his mentor."
Again, she shrugged at his suggestion, at least this time she wasn't completely zoned out. "My power only works on actual people. So even if the Danger Room can project computerized people, my power doesn't affect them." If she could use her power on the Danger Room images, she would! Sadly, it didn't work like that. "The Danger Room is great for most practice, but those of us that need someone present are basically out of luck. We have to get volunteers." You'd think they could practice on 'prisoners', but that could be call torture.
His last remark actually surprised her, as if she finally realized that he hadn't yet begun to eat. "Oh, not at all. You shouldn't have waited. I'm sorry." Her face turned bright red again, horrified by the idea of him not eating because of her!
