There wasn't a voice of reason, not for Alice. There was only herself, and the insanity. She did what she wanted, she did what the insanity wanted, and that was that. She never thought about consequences much, other then purposely trying to scare off people. It really had just become a habit for her. Never to let anyone get close... And when people did, they didn't stay close for long. Even the X-men were wary of her, for crying out loud! This guy, Kam, would be just like the others. Show interest until he witnessed firsthand what happened when she lost control.
Alice's power was complicated, incredibly difficult to explain, especially in a way that didn't make you seem... Well crazy! She didn't like people thinking she was insane, but her power made her do some pretty messed up things, or act in extremely odd ways. "I'm not that great at explaining what happens. Sorry." If Kam were to ask who was in control of her power though.... He'd be right about it not being her. Her power really did have a mind of it's own, manipulating the girl into lashing out and releasing it with out her really realizing just what was happening. That was the worst part about her power. When she did lose control, she couldn't remember anything, as if she'd been asleep the whole time. Most people wouldn't see how that was horrible, but when you thought about it... How would you like to 'wake up' in a bloody scene that you couldn't remember? How would any person like never knowing how many people they'd hurt, or just what they had done in general? It was a scary thought...
Alice glanced at him again when he almost seemed to sympathize with her. That shadow of a smile touched her lips again. "Yeah." She didn't know what else to say, taking another gulp of the hot chocolate before it got cold. She wanted to change the subject before she thought about it to much. "You know, it's really late. Shouldn't you be going to bed soon?" She needn't worry about going to bed herself, having already made it clear that she didn't sleep at night. Or.... intentionally sleep at night. If the corruption had kept her up for days, then she just might resort to a normal sleeping pattern.

Kameron had thought he'd made it pretty clear. His sleeping patterns were not the same as anyone of the 'normals' that Alice had labeled him as. In fact, they were anything but. He hadn't really slept in a normal fashion in quite a long time. Usually, he would stay up as late as possible only to pass out. He would sleep until seven at night, do homework and such before pulling another all-nighter. It was a comfortable routine that he had fallen into. "It's only four, Angel," he spoke with somewhat of a teasing voice. He hadn't even noticed his calling her that self-made nickname. If he had, he might have apologized. But, since he didn't notice, he felt no reason to edit the phrase he had used at all.
He gulped down the rest of his hot chocolate. It warmed his insides. His tounge slipped up over his top lip, catching any remaining chocolate. He slid the mug across the marble counter. It was relatively close to the sink. Now Kam wasn't an untighty person. In fact, he was cleaner and more orderly then most. Preferring to stick to a said schedule. He put all clothes in a hamper. Made it a point to vacuum his room. He even made his bed whenever he woke up. Not to seem lazy, but his logic was someone else would wash the dish. After all, he couldn't control water, or move objects with his mind. Only kill and destroy.
He finally shrugged off his giant hoody. It had been sort of a security object. Something warm and safe. But he didn't really feel like it would make a difference anymore. It was sort of silly. A jacket wouldn't protect him. Kameron didn't put too much thought into his clothing, but he definitely had a certain style. Often times he would layer his clothes with a black shirt underneath a neon one. He found that the combination really made the outfit pop. Tonight was different though. He settled on layering two black shirts. Not that he needed the second black shirt, it was just a habit now.
Looking at her with more tenderness then before, he responded. "I can relate. My power is pretty difficult to explain. What i said wasn't even half of it." Kam's voice had dropped down a little so it was just a whisper. He hinted that his power had a lot more severity and risk to it then he might have let on in the first place. A smile was bubbling in him and it had almost made it to the surface. Softening his features and making his lips twitch in an almost mysterious manner.
Pushing the jacket onto a stray chair, he let his eyes wander. They finally settled on a window. Looking outside, the stars were exceedingly bright this evening. He was brought back to himself by a thought. "We should head out to the lake. It's probably really pretty right now." His tone was soft as he proposed the idea. He could picture the image in his mind. A bright, almost full moon shimmering on the black-like-poison water. The contrast and image would be stunning. He himself made routine visits to the lake on some of those sleepless nights.

Alice wasn't used to meeting other night owls, having become so used to people sleeping at night and being active in the day. Even around here there weren't many 'true' night owls. Sure, sometimes students would stay out to who knew when, but they didn't make much of a habit of it.
That wasn't what surprised her the most though. It was his calling her 'Angel'. Her eyes almost went a little wider in surprise, as if shocked that he'd be saying something like that to her. She just about looked over her shoulder for whoever it was he was talking it! She was the absolute last person you'd call an Angel! So.. Why had he said it? "Yeah... Not that late yet..."
Alice's gaze once again dropped to stare at her mug. It seemed like the safest place to look after all. He'd already noticed that dark flickering in her eyes, it wouldn't be long until he put two and two together and realized it was her power's doing. She didn't want him to figure out that the flickering was a bad thing. It meant her power was getting restless. And when her power got restless people got hurt...
"Well, you're probably the first to understand then." She was smiling again, but kept her gaze on the mug. Sure, it was usually very rude to not look at someone when talking to them, but Alice didn't care at all. Most people didn't understand what happened. They always told her she could stay in control, but they didn't know what happened. No one had believed her before now. And here Kam was, finally a person that understood a little!
She finally looked at him when he mentioned the lake. It would be pretty out there right now, and she knew that for a fact. Most nights, when it wasn't to cold she would be out there, at that old boathouse by herself, just enjoying the scenery. "It is. This is one of the best times of the year to be out there, even if it can get a little chilly."

Kameron cocked his head to the left. Hair swooshing in that general direction as he did so. Was she.. confused? He knew he was, now anyway. Why would she be though? He thought against a shrug. Maybe there was a logical part of her brain that was starting to put two and two together. He was dangerous to be around. The longer they were together, the sooner she would start to feel sick.
Instead of a shrug, he listened to what he said. His eyes were now focusing on the shimmer of a reflection on the glass of the window. Nodding in agreement with what she said. Alice wasn't the only one in a spacey state. He didn't want his vision to turn into tunnels, darkening around the edges. He may not have been tired, but his eyes were a different story. Detaching them from the window, he focused some of his attention onto the black, pretty little head that seemed to be focusing on her mug. How odd, she kept looking down. Then again, he was not in a position to judge. He had just been starring at a window.
Was that a hint of a smile he saw on her lips? Why did that make him feel a little sick and bubbly? Kameron wasn't smiled at all the time, sure. Still though, a reaction like that was unusual. It was probably just nice to know that he had met someone who might understand a fraction of his daily struggles. "Sorta' nice to know someone kinda understands," a hint of a country boy accent came through in his voice. He and his family had been stationed in Tennessee for a good portion of his life. The result was this bit of an accent that would sometime show through.
Reaching for his sweater again, he pulled the neck whole over his head. Soon he found the arm sockets and was smoothening the creases in his sweater. A few stray hairs stuck up thanks to a well known enemy - static electricity. It was basically decided that they were going to the lake house, right? He rolled the sleeves of the sweater tightly up to his elbows. "Then, lets head out," Kameron smiled down at her as he pushed off of the counter. He stole her mug away from her, setting it down. Then he grabbed onto her hand. As if to help her down before they started walking.
This simple act of touching for a second time might have been a sign of flirting. Cameron was sure that some part of him knew what he was doing. It just didn't register enough to make him stop. That might not have been such a good thing. When his anti-social mind got set on doing something, he did it. With out giving anything a second thought. That was what he got from being so isolated from society. Oh well. It was sort a quality you were forced to get used too when hanging around Kameron.

Alice wasn't much of one to pay attention to accents, but she did notice the small change when he spoke. Why hadn't it shown through earlier? Maybe he was trying to hide it and it'd just slipped? She'd known some people tried to hide their accents but never understood why. Alice though? She didn't have much of one, just a normal, American accent. "Depends on your definition of 'Nice'."
She almost didn't like the idea of other people understanding what it was she was feeling, if only because she didn't like the idea of other people having to suffer like this. It wasn't a way you would want to live, and knowing there were some people other then her that did live like this? Well, it wasn't a happy thought. But happy was a pretty foreign term to Alice...
Kameron's sudden decision that both of them would be going out to the lake almost surprised Alice again. Wait, how had he gotten that conclusion out of her saying it was nice outside this time of year? She must have missed something. Still, she didn't fight it, letting him snatch her mug of hot chocolate, but almost hesitated when he took her hand. Touching other people wasn't something she was used to after all! After a few moments though she relaxed a little, sliding off the chair she'd been on and letting him lead her off towards an exit.
If Alice didn't understand what 'happy' really was, the chance of her knowing what flirting was was slim to none. Sure, she'd seen people flirt before, or she'd read books where there had been flirting, but other then that? Well she was just about the densest person you would ever find.
