Kola was about two miles into his five mile run. He wore some navy blue sweatpants and a black muscle shirt. Being in the physically fit condition he was in, he wasn't sweating at all, yet. The black muscle shirt did exactly what it was meant to do, show of his toned torso and arms. The white cord to his headphones seemed to blur at his somewhat fast paced jog. He was listening to the soundtrack of Beauty and the Beast.
He could only imagine what would be thought if anyone heard his odd taste for Disney tunes. Of course he could always persuade them to think that it was just their errs playing tricks on them. In the back round of Be our guest was the sound of feet crunching on snow. Along with the occasional twigs and leaves that commonly showed up in the many forests of Canada.
Since Kola had left England little over a year ago, he'd decided to travel. This decision had brought him to Canada. It was like some kind of frozen waste land. It had some sort of captivating beauty though. He wondered what the Grand Canion would be like. Maybe there were some cute girls there as well. He wasn't looking for just another pretty face though. Kola wanted someone with an actual personality. A challenge, perhaps.
His blond hair was styled messy today. Smelling sweet yet masculine. It was all in the shampoo though. The scent was intoxicating and somewhat addicting. He'd never put much effort into small things like that, things just fell into place. His steady pattern slowed slightly and he stopped all together. Kola reached into his deep pockets, taking out a small water bottle and downing it. He looked like some kind of sports add, leaning against the tree.

Some of the other Runaways had decided to claim Phoenix for the day, something about wanting to get to know the boy and so on. Maron knew they just wanted to see what sort of guy would fall for someone like her. She let it pass though, after all, Phoenix needed to get to know some of the other Runaways!
Normally she would have just hid out in her room with a book the whole day, while Phoenix was off having his guys day out, but for some reason she found herself going for a walk. Why, she didn't know. Maybe she just wanted the peace and quiet that the Canadian wilderness always seemed to bring. It helped clear her head, especially when she was having to worry about so many things at once. Xenthron had not been happy about finding out his bike had been stolen, and was temporarily holding a grudge against Maron for it. He probably wouldn't have if he found out she'd just about been killed at the time, he'd forget about his missing bike then. But she didn't want him to know.
Of course, that led to the other thing on her mind. Marie was out to kill her. She hadn't shown up in a little while, so Maron was starting to relax a little more, but still, the threat was there. What if Marie came back? She didn't want to dwell on the thoughts.
Maron was walking farther then she usually did, having reached one of the back roads that only the Runaways seemed to use. If she went to much farther she'd no longer be on Runaway land, and if anyone found out they'd be mad at her. They didn't want her leaving the property. It led to accidents. Really though, how could it hurt to just wander down a completely deserted road?
With a sigh, she just decided to sit off to the side of the road, gazing out at the tree tops across the road, unaware of the jogger heading her way...

The ipod on shuffle in his ears had changed to a song by some christian rock band. Now Kola wasn't a very religious person at all. Sure he was brought up in the Christian faith, but that didn't mean he believed in God. Say there was a God, why would he put his children through so much hell. Why would he create mutants in the first place? Maybe he's like a doctor and enjoys seeing people suffer. Well this was all just James opinion. So why did he have christian rock on his ipod? It was catchy, of course.
When he ran, it always gave him time to think. He just let his mind wander. After a while of running again, he saw a fiery redhead who hadn't seemed to notice him. His running steadily turned into a jog and another stop. He laced his fingers behind his head, seeming again like something from a sports magazine. "And what brings you to this part of the woods," Kola asked curiously. Not at all waiting to start flirting.
He didn't make it painfully obvious, only an idiot would do that. The curiosity in his voice was just a little bit more interested then it normally would have been. Now that he was up closer, this girl was cute. Nothing wrong with a little harmless flirting right? It was like an art form to James now. Or a mastered instrument. He just had a way with words, so to speak.

Maron flinched when she heard a completely unfamiliar voice. Just her luck, someone was on the road. They must have been for a walk or jog... Either way, they were a stranger. And strangers were bad news around here... Where no one was around to witness what might happen..
It wasn't that she flinched voluntarily, it was a learned habit. Strangers in Canada were always trouble for Maron. Her eyes shut tightly, for obvious reasons that he might not realize. That voice... a Boy her own age or a little older then her. He was still a teenager, that much was obvious. "What do you want?" Why had the boy stopped? Why was he talking to her? Suddenly she was a little irked, having no idea what he looked like...

Hm, that was definitely unexpected. He'd never gotten a response from a stranger quite like that. Well at least not a female one. James plucked out his white ear buds, letting them hang around his neck. The fact that she had responded in that way spoke volumes. It was also very hot that she hadn't looked at him yet. Maybe that was just the masculine, girl-crazy, part of him thinking though.
Now how did he respond to that? "Maybe some conversation with a cute stranger," Kola decided on. He'd never been one shy of saying what he wanted. And it's not like he was lieing. Another thing that he had seemed to master was the art of creative truth telling. Saying one thing and meaning another. He crossed his arms over his chest, leaning against a lightly snow dusted tree.

Great. It wasn't a guy who happened to want to kill her. It was someone looking to flirt. And this just had to happen when Phoenix was away.
Maron let her eyes reopen, keeping them downward, and rolling them. "Oh, I see. Well you chose a horrible place to go looking." She smirked a little, really, did he expect people up here to have warm reactions towards strangers? Canada was often called the capital of mutants. Many called the country home, because it was one of the places that wasn't cracking down on their rights. That did mean though that not everyone here was good. "You'll just have to keep moving though, because I don't see anyone matching that description around here."

Oh she had a boyfriend. Kola had seen it all before. They were on the defensive when their special Friend was away. That never lasted long though. All it took was a little bit of concentration. When he had first discovered his power, he was nine. He'd been left alone to wander a toy store. He saw what looked like the best toy firetruck in the world. It was priced at two hundred dollars though. A women in her nineties walked by and he knew they always had a sweet spot for so small children. So he said 'buy it for me pleeease' and she did. That was just the beginning.
"Oh, c'mon Hun. just give me a chance," James said, concentrating on the last phrase. His voice became slightly distorted, taking on a sweet and mesmerizing tone. There was no way she could resist now. But he'd just planted a seed. The idea that trying something fun and daring like this seemed fun and exciting. This girl still had the ability to snap out of that frame of thinking, though it would be extremely hard for her own common sense to break through.
With a power like Kola's, you stopped feeling guilty about things. That was too much of a liability. You might slip up and that could mean life or death. It also meant that you had to grow up a little faster then everyone else. He ran one hand through his soft blond hair. "My names Kola," he winked mischievously.

Maron was getting a little annoyed that this guy was being so persistent, perhaps he wouldn't have been if he knew what she was capable of. Or perhaps it would only make him even more of a nuisance. And then he was speaking again, calling her 'hun', which really irked her. Her lips parted, to tell him off, when suddenly her head started to feel fuzzy.
Her eyes closed, her thoughts jumbled, as if something were suddenly missing that had been there before. Her thoughts had taken a complete 360, suddenly abandoning the 'strangers are trouble' theory she had always lived by. He was speaking again, why... Why had his voice seemed to change a little?
He wasn't 'flirting' with her this time, only introducing himself. Why did she suddenly want to get to know this guy? Before she was even aware of it, she was already responding. "I'm Maron." There was an urge, to look at him now, put a face to the name, but whatever was happening, she wouldn't let it have her make a mistake like that. She kept her eyes shut tight, obviously forced.

That dazed and confused look that seemed to come over Maron for a moment put a smug smile on Kola's face. He'd gotten a name now. He sat down next to her on the curb. Maybe the boyfriend would show up. He sure hoped so, it always made things a lot more interesting. Not yet though, he wanted things to get a little bit steamier. After all now he was the one calling the shots. He didn't want to come off as a jerk too her though. Maybe a fast progressing friendship.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Maron." Kola told her. The way he said her name seemed to be electrifying"So maybe I can get an answer now. What brings you to the woods today?" he asked again with a seemingly innocent curiosity. He wasn't flirting as much. It wasn't needed right now. Being that she was already under his spell.
Kola had always been one for games or competitions. He enjoyed passing others up and winning a prize. And at the moment this girl was the prize. As most could probably already tell, Kola wasn't one to hesitate. Most of the time when everyone was on step one he was already thinking about step three. It was just part of his instinct. Most of the time he was almost always sure about his next move. Like now for instance. After a few minuets of chatting it up they would both be taken over by some strong urge for more... contact. If all went well, that is.
What? She seemed to be closing her eye's even tighter. Why was that? And then it hit him. She had to be a mutant with some bizarre power. Why else would she keep her eyes shut so tightly? Now things were heating up. More obstacle's in this possible 'friends with benefits' relationship. At least he hoped the relationship would advance in that way. If things kept up the way they were going, that could be arranged with in the hour.

Somewhere in the back of her head, Maron could hear her common sense screaming at her, telling her that something was wrong. To not answer any questions asked and just run. The rest of her mind wouldn't listen though, even if it was aware that something wasn't right. Why... Why was she even speaking with him? Why wasn't she moving away from him? Why did the way he said her name affect her like that?!
"Just went for a walk, needed some fresh air..." Somehow she managed to half lie around her just wanting to get away from the other Runaways. She wasn't supposed to talk to strangers about the group. But why... Why wasn't she resisting thing guy? And why was he so aware of her sudden lack of will? "What.. did you do..?" What was he doing to her head? She couldn't shake off the affects, but she was suddenly very aware of them.

This Maron girl was just full of surprises! It was funny, Kola had never met someone who actually had enough will power to speak out from under the affects of his power. Well he could fix that in just one sentence. This was all very appealing. A part of his mind wandered out of that conversation and remembered another. It had been one with his second grade teacher.
She was an awful lady. It was as if she hated children. One day, she'd brought cupcakes to his elementary school. Now most was think she was going to give the treats to the class. Instead though, she just let them sit on her desk. So the young Kola, being as persuasive as he was, simply told her to give them to the class. But then the lady turned, looked him in the eyes and said no. So he repeated his demand and she followed it with no questions. Now James had no idea why he'd remembered this, but he acted upon it.
"I didn't do anything to you. I didn't do anything, understand?" his voice took on the sweet, distorted tone it always took when he used his power.

As Maron started to grow more and more aware of what was happening, the hold he’d had started to crack even more, her head clearing. Why…. What had he done?! She stumbled to her feet, her eyes slowly opening as she turned to look at him, her gaze focused at the base of his neck instead of his eyes, which he might find weird…
Until he looked at her eyes.
Even though she wouldn’t look into his eyes, even if he wasn’t looking at her, he could look into her. And they seemed to burn, swirling about like rushing lava. He would also feel heavier, as if his body was suddenly having to carry more than double his own weight. “Whatever you’re doing you better st-“
Maron’s words caught in her throat before she could finish, her head going fuzzy again. She shuddered as he spoke the words the first time, trying to fight it. But then he had repeated it, as if hammering the thoughts deeper into her mind, implanting them so deeply she couldn’t fight it this time. Slowly… she nodded.

What was that? The weight on his shoulders felt like red hot cinder blocks on his shoulders. It seemed lighten once she'd nodded. Everything was starting to move a little bit too slowly for Kola's taste. That seemed a little bit unreasonable, but he'd never said that he was reasonable. He was, at times, very impatient. One of those times being now.
"So, weren't you saying that you very much wanted to kiss me? Kola couldn't help but speed things up. He folded an arm behind his head, tangling his hand into his hair only briefly. He let his arm fall to his side and waited for this girls response. Most couldn't resist once they got this intertwined in his very persuasive words.
((not the best, but a post is a post.))

Maron’s breath caught in her through when she heard the almost order. His words still made her mind blank and fuzzy, but something stopped her from answering at first. Kiss him? It was as if she were split in half, or more like fourths. Most of her was wanting to obey as ordered, forcing her to take a step forward. The remaining fourth was screaming, reminding her of Phoenix, telling her to just turn and run! “I… was...?”
That small remaining will to fight stopped her from taking another step, her eyes slowly closing to try and block the commands. Her head was starting to hurt from fighting it. Suddenly her mind started pleading for Phoenix to come, help her fight whatever these urges were. If only he wasn’t off having a Guy’s day out…

Phoenix had been having quite the adventurous day with the other male Runaways. It seemed like a cross between a haze and an interrogation. They kept warning him about Maron and saying she was some evil creature. Even though they said such terrible things, it actually made him miss her alot. They'd all gone out to eat, again but he somehow managed to escape them. After more then a few hours he was about ready to explode, so he decided to take a walk.
His hair was vibrant and blue, reaching his shoulders. Art had dressed for any occasion, not knowing what he would be doing. Wearing a tight, form fitting, black t-shirt. Along with some Grey jeans that had developed some new tears in the previous hours. His black fingerless gloves had somehow came out unscathed from the expedition he'd been on. Phoenix had a gleaming knife that he'd salvaged from his ice skating blades. Made from his own blood alloy it was wedged in his boot and covered by his pant leg.
Art hadn't realized how much he had missed Maron until he saw her. The way she kept stepping closer and closer to that muscled out jogger. It was heart wrenching. How could she do that to him? But Maron wouldn't! Something had to be wrong. How on earth would she ever bring herself to do what it looked like she was about to do? As he walked, his left hand balled into a fist. Who did this guy think he was?
He tapped the jogger on his shoulder with his right hand. There was a sinister, and well, pissed off look in his eyes. Everything about him was pretty pissed off. The tight set of his jaw, the way his body had gone rigid. When the the jogger started to turn, Phoenix's fist shot out. The sound his fist made when coming in contact with the joggers cheek was very satisfying. In the sunlight his gloves now gleamed with a small amount of blood. Not his own, that was for certain.
